The number of mononitrosyl iron complexes with diethyldithiocarbamate, formed in the liver of mice in vivo and in vitro after intraperitoneal injection of binuclear dinitrosyl iron complexes with N-acetyl-L-cysteine or glutathione, S-nitrosoglutathione, sodium nitrite or the vasodilating drug Isoket® was assessed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). The number of the said complexes, in contrast to the complexes, formed after nitrite or Isoket administration, the level of which sharply increased after treatment of liver preparations with a strong reducing agent - dithionite, did not change in the presence of dithionite. It was concluded that, in the first case, EPR-detectable mononitrosyl iron complexes with diethyldithiocarbamate in the absence and presence of dithionite appeared as a result of the reaction of NO formed from nitrite with Fe2+-dieth- yldithiocarbamate and Fe3+-diethyldithiocarbamate complexes, respectively. In the second case, mononitrosyl iron complexes with diethyldithiocarbamate appeared as a result of the transition of iron-mononitosyl fragments from ready-made iron-dinitrosyl groups of binuclear dinitrosyl complexes, which is three to four times higher than the content of the mononuclear form of these complexes in the tissue...

Aim and Objective: During the investigation of sodium nitrite-catalyzed oxidative coupling reaction of aryls, an unprecedented C(sp2)-H and C(sp3)-H coupling of substituted 2-aryl acetonitrile was found. Materials and Methods: The structure of the coupled product was confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), and comparison of its derivatives with known compounds. The effects of methoxy group in the benzene ring on the reaction were evaluated. Results: The optimized reaction conditions are summarized as follows: CF3SO3H/substrate = 1.5 equiv., NaNO2/substrate = 0.3 equiv., CH3CN as solvent. 2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)acetonitrile and 2-(3,4,5- trimethoxyphenyl)acetonitrile could also generate C(sp2)-H and C(sp3)-H coupling. The coupling reaction occurred as a typical radial mechanism. Conclusion: An unprecedented cyano-induced, NaNO2-catalyzed oxidative C(sp3)-H and C(sp2)-H coupling was reported. The reaction proceeded under very mild conditions, using O2 in the air as terminal oxidant. The unique oxidative manner might provide more inspiration for the development of intriguing oxidative coupling reactions.

The aim of the research was an assessment of the effect of the Lactiplantibacillus plantarum SCH1 strain isolated from ecological raw fermented pork roast on pH, redox potential, nitrites, and nitrates content, L a* b* color parameters, total heme pigments content, nitrosyl myoglobin concentration, as well as the microbiological quality and sensory traits of cooked sausages produced from mechanically separated poultry meat (MSPM), cured with a lower sodium nitrite level (NaNO2 50 mg/kg) after production as well as after storage (1 and 3 weeks of storage). The biochemical identification of the Lactobacillus bacteria after storage was also performed. Tests were performed in two sausage treatments: C—control sausage made from MSPM and L—sausage made from MSPM inoculated with L. plantarum at approx. 107 cfu/g. No negative effect of using the L. plantarum SCH1 strain on the physical and chemical MSPM sausage features was found. The treatment with L. plantarum SCH1 was of better microbiological quality after 3 weeks of storage. The sausages with L. plantarum SCH1 kept good sensory quality while the control treatment was spoiled after storage.

AbstractCadmium (Cd) is a toxic and very mobile heavy metal that can be adsorbed and uptaken by plants in large quantities without any visible sign. Therefore, stabilization of Cd before uptake is crucial to the conservation of biodiversity and food safety. Owing to the high number of carboxyl and phenolic hydroxyl groups in their structure, humic substances form strong bonds with heavy metals which makes them perfect stabilizing agents. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of humic and fulvic acid (HA + FA) levels (0, 3500, 5250, and 7000 mg/L) on alleviation of Cadmium (Cd) toxicity in garden cress (Lepidium sativum) contaminated with Cd (CdSO4.8H2O) (0, 100, and 200 Cd mg/kg) under greenhouse conditions. Our results showed that, Cd stress had a negative effect on the growth of garden cress, decreased leaf fresh, leaf dry, root fresh and root dry weights, leaf relative water content (LRWC), and mineral content except for Cd, and increased the membrane permeability (MP) and enzyme (CAT, SOD and POD) activity. However, the HA + FA applications decreased the adverse effects of the Cd pollution. At 200 mg/kg Cd pollution, HA + FA application at a concentration of 7000 mg/L increased the leaf fresh, leaf dry, root fresh, root dry weights, stem diameter, leaf area, chlorophyll reading value (CRV), MP, and LRWC values by 262%, 137%, 550%,133%, 92%, 104%, 34%, 537%, and 32% respectively, compared to the control. Although the highest H2O2, MDA, proline and sucrose values were obtained at 200 mg/L Cd pollution, HA + FA application at a concentration of 7000 mg/L successfully alleviated the deleterious effects of Cd stress by decreasing H2O2, MDA, proline, and sucrose values by 66%, 68%, 70%, and 56%, respectively at 200 mg/kg Cd pollution level. HA + FA application at a concentration of 7000 mg/L successfully mitigated the negative impacts of Cd pollution by enhanced N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu, Mn, Zn, and B by 75%, 23%, 84%, 87%, 40%, 85%, 143%, 1%, 65%, and 115%, respectively. In addition, HA + FA application at a concentration of 7000 mg/L successfully reduced Cd uptake by 95% and Cl uptake by 80%. Considering the plant growth parameters, the best results were determined when HA + FA concentration was 7000 mg/L. We have shown that, it is critical to apply a humic substance with high percentage of FA, which was 10% in this study, to mitigate the adverse effects of heavy metal stress on plant growth. In conclusion, the application of HA + FA may be suggested as an effective solution for reducing the Cd uptake of the plants by stabilizing Cd in soil and preventing translocation of Cd from the roots of plant to its shoot and leaves.
