Nicaragua has been, and will undoubtedly continue to be, primarily an agricultural country. Of the country's exports, agricultural and forestry products have consistently represented over 88% of the total value. One notable characteristic of Nicaraguan agriculture is its diversification, at least in respect to its other Central American neighbors. The expanded cotton and cottonseed exports since 1951, and the normally consistent exports of coffee are by far the most important agricultural products in terms of foreign exchange. In addition, four other commodities (sesame, cattle and meat, timber, and sugar) each yielded over a million dollars in foreign exchange during the years 1957 and 1958.

The relative importance of agriculture in the Central American region (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama) is beyond question. With close to 65% of its economically active population devoted to agriculture, with 95% of its exports based on agricultural products and with 30% of the Gross National Product (GNP) originated by agriculture, this area is particularly dependent on this activity for its development (SIECA and GAFICA, 1975).

In recent years it has taken more study and apply opportunities to produce energy from products of the agricultural economy. It is possible to produce electricity, heat, gas, bioethanol, diesel, etc. from agricultural products. As over the years, a danger of competition between food and energy products in agriculture has been noticed. Therefore, the EC does not support the production of diesel from primary agricultural products. This report examines the potential of Burgas for energy production. The aim is to show the potential for new business opportunities and add value to the agricultural economy.

Subject The outlook for agriculture. Significance At the beginning of his term, President Mauricio Macri eliminated export quotas and removed or reduced export taxes on agricultural products, which boosted grain and meat production and exports. However, a severe drought last summer prompted a significant fall in soya and maize production. Impacts Agriculture will remain an important source of foreign exchange. A new deal with China should boost beef exports, which may encourage farmers to increase falling herd numbers. Fiscal constraints risk limiting plans to expand irrigation projects.

In the two decades between 1953 and 1973 the rapidly growing industrialization of Iran has shifted to industry much of the former emphasis on agriculture. During the last five years of the period, the share of agriculture in the GNP declined from somewhat under 25 percent to i6 percent. Despite its decreasing part, agriculture in 1972/3 was still responsible for the largest portion of consumer expenditures, and agricultural products, notably such traditional items as carpets, dried fruit and nuts continued to rank next below oil as Iran's largest exports, and so were the second largest provider of the country's foreign exchange.

Agriculture is very important for the regional economy. Despite Romania’s great agricultural potential, the agricultural products processing capacity is low because of the outdated technologies. The high fragmentation of the cultivated land in small parts is another obstacle for agricultural development. The low economical potential of small farms and their inefficient management determined the underdevelopment of the agricultural products processing sector. Romania must quickly adapt the agricultural economy and rural development for a better integration on the Unique Market, using the European funds.

Events of the past two years, specifically the agricultural price explosion of 1973, have strongly emphasized the growing interdependency of countries in the production, consumption and trade in agricultural products. The illusion of a closed agricultural economy has been dealt a series of severe blows. The world monetary crisis, the dollar devaluations, and sharply increased foreign demand for U.S. commodities have suggested that there is a single world market for basic commodities.
