This research aimed to develop an audiovisual-based PowToon animation video on the subject matter of chemical bonds and analyze the quality of the audiovisual-based animated video as learning media to study chemical bonds based on the assessment of material experts, media experts, chemistry teachers, and students’ responses. This research used development research methods (R&D) with a 4D development model (Define, Design, Development, and Dissemination). However, the 4D development model was limited to the dissemination stage in this research. The product is an animated video, which is in the form of mp4, containing chemical bond materials. Based on product quality assessment by a material expert, it gained a percentage of 84.375% with very good (VG) category; from the media expert’s assessment, it obtained a percentage of 96.428% with very good (VG) category; and according to assessment by chemistry teachers of high school, it got a percentage of 98.48% in the very good (VG) category. The product was responded to positively by students with a percentage of 95%. Based on the results of assessments, the animated video can be used as an alternative media for the chemistry learning process in the classroom

One of the prerequisites for chemistry teacher candidates is to demonstrate certain laboratory skills. This article aims to determine and discuss the competencies of pre-service chemistry teachers in a chemistry laboratory context working with solution chemistry content. The participants in this study consisted of a group of pre-service chemistry teachers in the first to fifth years of a chemistry teacher education program. The participants were given individual tasks of preparing solutions of a certain concentration. The tasks included two steps: calculation and application. The participants were also observed in terms of the degree to which they followed the laboratory safety rules. Overall, the pre-service teachers made numerous errors in calculating the correct amounts of a substance and preparing a solution, as well as obeying the safety rules. Interestingly, the participants' laboratory competencies showed a trend along their grade levels; namely, a slight increase and then a sharp decrease in their solution preparation knowledge and skills that could be associated with retention loss or decay over time in the absence of rehearsal and/or ill-encoding. These results may contribute to the discussion on virtual and physical laboratories in chemistry education.

This study aimed to explore chemistry pre-service teacher view toward implementation of contextual learning in Organic Chemistry. The context that was investigated about is Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs), which was a novel display technology that is being used for smartphone display. Seventeen pre-service chemistry teachers were interviewed about their knowledge about organic chemistry, conjugated double bond, OLEDs and their view about implementing OLEDs context in organic chemistry learning. Three groups of questions were asked to the pre-service chemistry teacher, most of them indicating lack knowledge about detail information of OLEDs even though they really appreciate if OLEDs was introduced in Organic Chemistry learning especially in conjugated double bond and nature-generated organic compound topics.

This study is research and development (RD) and using 4-D models, but disseminate step is not done. Validation of student worksheets has been done by chemistry lecturers and chemistry teachers. The practicality of student worksheets has been done by chemistry teachers and students of 2nd grade of SMAN 1 Pariaman. The result showed that moment kappa average of validity was 0,83 with very high validity category and moment kappa average of practicality were 0,9 by chemistry teachers and 0,86 by students with very high category. Therefore student worksheets of molecular shape based on structured inquiry with emphasis on the submicroscopic level using 3-D models is valid and practice to be used on the chemistry learning.

This research was aimed at developing Scientific based Chemistry instructional modules for Salt Hydrolysis. The module is made by using scientific approach steps which consist of observing, questioning, collecting data, associating and comunicating. A Ploomp model approach was utilized in this study which consisted of Define; Design; Develop; and Disseminate. The module was validated by eight validators, and was tasted to three chemistry teachers and students of class XI IPA in three schools. The result of data validity analysis that was obtained showed that the module which was produced fulfilled valid criteria seen from the aspects of content, graphics, construct, and language. The module practicality result from students and teachers was practical seen from usage time and the implementation easiness. The effectiveness of this module can be seen from activity ad student’s learning result, the activity of students from those three school during Learning process was very effective. The learning result of those three schools in experiment class using this module was higher than control class which did not us the module. The learning result was tested with hypothesis testing from data analysis it was obtained that tcount > ttable, to SMA Negeri 1 Gunung Talang tcount 4,29 and ttable 1,68, in SMA Negeri 1 Kubung, tcount 2,27 and ttable 1,68 and SMA Negeri 1 Bukit Sundi, tcount 4,24 and tcount 1,67 that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted in the real level 0,05. This proved that there was a significant distinction in student’s learning result between experiment class and control class. Based on that result, it can be concluded that Chemistry Learning Module based on scientific approach in salt hydrolisis lesson of class XI SMA/MA that was produced can be stated valid practice and effective one.
