The chapter discusses the party system in the macro context of politics. It highlights the limitations of political party and interest group analysis without reference to the political competition that shapes behaviour in politics. The chapter discusses theoretically the impact of party system on labour market flexibility and proceeds to show the interrelation between party competition and the behaviour of political parties, composition of socio-economic support bases, and the behaviour of interest groups that influence reform. In the context of labour market flexibility, the party-system operates as an intermediate variable facilitating reforms. The chapter contradicts the conventional notion that party system fragmentation impedes reform by showing how increasing party competition corresponds to greater labour market reforms. It shows that increases in the number of parties, facilitates labour market reforms through marginalization of the issue of labour, realignment of class interests within broader society and fragmentation of trade union movement.

Educational leaders in rural schools across the world face distinctive challenges. In this chapter, the authors report the findings of two studies examined through narrative inquiry conducted in a Garifuna and Ketchi Mayan village in Central America. The case studies explore the role of the principal as a strategic leader to improve the education system, and the impact of these leaders in their communities. By sharing these stories, the authors illustrate the importance of strategic thinking, as well as both transformative and servant leadership to promote change.

The paper examines the impact of earnings quality (EQ) on the dividend policy of enterprises in Vietnam. We consider the EQ in terms of multiple dimensions such as accruals quality, earnings persistence, revelance and timeliness of earning information. The study uses regression method according to Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), with EQ as an intermediate variable, data collected at enterprises listed on the stock market in Vietnam in the period of 2010 - 2018, with 4541 observations. The research results have found that EQ has a positive influence on dividend policy on all aspects of EQ. The empirical research results are a useful basis to help enterprises improve EQ, thereby helping business in implementing appropriate dividend policy.

Agility is a necessary condition, which is known as the main factor for the success of corporations to compete. In this sense, organisations have to determine their strategic priorities and accordingly develop and implement appropriate strategies in order to preserve their growth and survival. Meanwhile, managers play an important role in the process of strategic planning and making decisions related to their way of thinking. In addition, the existence of competitive intelligence plan for organisations has a striking role to optimally use the existing opportunities and using knowledge management (KM) in the organisation provides a platform to do so. This work aims to study the impact of using knowledge management on organisational agility as a case study in the ceramic and tile industry of the provinces of Yazd and Kerman. The data was collected using questionnaires. The structural equation modelling was used to analyse the research hypotheses using LISREL software. The results of the study showed that knowledge management application has a positive and significant effect on agility through using competitive intelligence and strategic thinking.

This study examines some factors that influence fertility behaviour in Ghana, with particular emphasis on the influence of contraception as an intermediate variable. The decade examined covers the period 1988 to 1998 and the factors analyzed are age, residence, education, religion and ethnicity. Employing multivariate regression analysis and path models, the study observes that among all the factors, age is the only variable that6 has a moderate effect on fertility. Also of significant interest is that the positive influence of contraceptive use on fertility in 1988 is reversed in 1998. The study notes that given the non—significant effects obtained save the moderate effect of age, it is not possible to draw a definitive conclusion regarding the impact that any of these factors might have contributed to the observed reduction in fertility during the period. In light of this, the study recommends that more effort would be required if fertility is to be reduced substantially. Nonetheless, the reversal in the effect of contraceptive use between the two periods is seen as encouraging.
