This paper describes the development of two experimental school library information systems for Malaysian schools. The results of a user study, conducted using different sets of questionnaire for both types of schools indicated that students in general, borrowed books from the library by browsing the shelves. Students seldom used the catalogue card for searching and only a small percentage reported that they were able to find the books successfully using the catalogue card. Based on the findings, a conceptual model of the prototype automated catalogue was developed - Virtual Library for use in primary schools, and ELIS for secondary schools. Both systems are divided into two main modules, the Administrator and the User module. User acceptance test showed that the majority of students found the systems user friendly. Students were also successful in the search tasks given. A high majority described the graphical user interface to be attractive and simple. This indicates the feasibility of using the systems for school libraries in Malaysia.

Since 2003, Room to Read, an international education NGO, has been working in India to help foster a culture of reading in schools through the establishment of over 1500 school libraries. This paper outlines the evolution Room to Read’s Reading Room program in India as an example of how school library programs can address the reading challenges of children in developing countries. The focus of the paper is on Room to Read India’s Primary Reading Enhancement Program (PREP), which will be piloted in the Reading Room program in 2008. The goal of PREP is to have a significant impact on the way reading is taught in primary schools in India. Details are provided on the approach, materials, activities, parent and community participation, government participation, and student assessments that make up the core components of the PREP design.

The Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 43 Year 2007 concerning Libraries states that schools are required to have school libraries based on the National Standards of Library (SNP). This condition forces every school to develop a library, even though the conditions are still far from the standard set. To realize the existence of library, each school uses various resources in its school to establish a school library. This study aims to explore the efforts of primary schools in Singaraja City to fulfill their obligations in providing library space. This study uses a qualitative approach based on critical social theory commonly used in the Cultural Studies approach. The data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews, involved observation and document study. Data analysis in this study follows Peter Berger's model with the following steps: conceptualization, conceptualization results, verification, and objectivation. The results show that the obligation to have a school library at the primary school level is not easy due to various obstacles. This gave rise to the ideology of permissivism or in Balinese it is called dadi dadi dogen. This ideology allows schools to use various types of spaces to become libraries, for example classrooms, teacher rooms, warehouses, UKS, and so on. This chapter examines the Archive of Our Own (AO3) tagging system and backend design to determine how its successful elements can be implemented in a secondary school library setting. Specifically, it looks at social tagging on the platform to evaluate how effective a collaborative tag-based search system could be as a supplement to a traditional school library catalog. The author conducted field research and created an online library tagging template for school use. Google Forms are also used to generate content for the platform, which is designed for both librarian and student user groups. This work was carried out throughout the 2019-2020 school year. The author found that community care, subject knowledge, and “tag wrangling” are the key elements of the AO3 that can potentially be leveraged in a secondary school library environment to promote student engagement and reading for pleasure.

This article explores various reasons for the lack of school library services in Norwegian primary schools. The basic thesis is that libraries and primary schools have developed differently despite sharing common origins from the European Age of Enlightenment. Libraries and library work can be seen as belonging to a masculine metaphor, primary schools and teaching can be seen as belonging to a feminine metaphor. These metaphors reflect traditions and attitudes that affect everything from basic democratic ideologies to ways in which we relate to classroom space and library space, as well as the ways in which teachers and librarians organize and advocate for working conditions. This causes conflicts in defining the role of the teacher-librarian and the school library in Norwegian primary schools.

This research aimed at designing and improving the web-based integrated peer and self- assessment. WesPASS (web-based peer-assessment system), developed in this research, allows students to assess their own or their peers’ performance and project assignments and to report about the result of these assessments so that they correct their assignments. This study employed design-based research. The participants included 102 fourth grade primary school students and their 4 teachers from 2 state and 2 private primary schools in Ankara, Kecioren (Turkey) who employed the system and were engaged in a questionnaire survey to assess its quality. The findings were analyzed through quantitative data analysis. The findings revealed that the system can be used by elementary school students for peer and self-assessment system. The participants stated that WesPASS is simple and user-friendly, and it accelerates the assessment process by employing information technology and allows to share opinions

AbstractAs autonomous service robots become more affordable and thus available for the general public, there is a growing need for user-friendly interfaces to control these systems. Control interfaces typically get more complicated with increasing complexity of the robotic tasks and the environment. Traditional control modalities as touch, speech or gesture commands are not necessarily suited for all users. While non-expert users can make the effort to familiarize themselves with a robotic system, paralyzed users may not be capable of controlling such systems even though they need robotic assistance most. In this paper, we present a novel framework, that allows these users to interact with a robotic service assistant in a closed-loop fashion, using only thoughts. The system is composed of several interacting components: non-invasive neuronal signal recording and co-adaptive deep learning which form the brain-computer interface (BCI), high-level task planning based on referring expressions, navigation and manipulation planning as well as environmental perception. We extensively evaluate the BCI in various tasks, determine the performance of the goal formulation user interface and investigate its intuitiveness in a user study. Furthermore, we demonstrate the applicability and robustness of the system in real world scenarios, considering fetch-and-carry tasks and tasks involving human-robot interaction. As our results show, the system is capable of adapting to frequent changes in the environment and reliably accomplishes given tasks within a reasonable amount of time. Combined with high-level planning using referring expressions and autonomous robotic systems, interesting new perspectives open up for non-invasive BCI-based human-robot interactions.

The SMK Negeri 1 Siantar School Library is one of the special libraries located at the SMK Negeri 1 Siantar School. Libraries provide various kinds of library materials such as books, lessons, lesson questions, and other vocational books. After the researcher made observations, the problem that often occurred was books that were borrowed and returned books that had a non-strategic layout, so that library visitors who did not know the placement found it difficult to find the books they wanted to borrow. This research uses data mining techniques, namely the Apriori Algorithm, the Apriori Method is a method for looking for patterns of relationships between one or more items in a dataset. The Apriori method can be used for data on borrowing books at the Siantar 1 State Vocational School School Library, where the composition of the library books (B1) X_Press UN 2019 B. Indonesia side by side with books (B4) School of Love is a Great Leader and Teacher, if the composition of the book is (B10) Moral Mulia side by side with book (B1) X_Press UN 2019 B. Indonesia, If the book arrangement (B7) X_Press Mathematics is side by side with the book (B5) Relationer, if the book arrangement (B7) X_Press Mathematics is side by side with the book (B9) Indonesian Wisdom Batak Toba, and if the arrangement of the book (B10) Morals Mulia is side by side with the book (B8) Hati Therapy, the data from these items each met the minimum confidance value of 0,5% or the same as the specified 50%. The result of this research is to help library staff arrange the book layout correctly. It is hoped that this research can provide input to the school

This research is the extent to which efforts to optimize literacy culture through school libraries during the Covid-19 pandemic carried out by SD N 1 Pageraji Korwilcam Dindik Cilongok, Banyumas district. Data collection methods used in this study include: interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique is reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Programs in an effort to cultivate a literacy culture are compiled periodically, the daily program that has been implemented is by holding non-lesson book reading activities before learning begins, by sharing literacy corners throughout the school environment. The weekly program includes posting pictures / stories of activities on social media and making scheduled visits to the school library. Monthly program by making observation forms to assess students' progress in literacy. Semester program implemented by giving awards to teachers and students. These programs are implemented with a pattern of cooperation from all elements, namely the principal, teachers, education personnel, which will make the school library utilization program implemented properly.

The article outlines general characteristics of the originality of forming valeological functions in a school library. The paper objective is to study peculiarities of the valeological support of library-information activities in school libraries, as well as the specifics analysis of their library and cultural-educational work aimed at developing the health culture of this activity subjects The author consistently reveals the peculiarities of forming the valeological function of school libraries under conditions of the information society development and dissemination of information-telecommunication technologies in libraries. The article describes cultural-educational activities of libraries directed to develop the health culture not only in readers (schoolchildren, their parents, teachers), but in librarians themselves. The author applies both general scientific methods of research (analysis, synthesis, deduction, induction, generalization, abstraction, comparative, structural-functional methods, method of system analysis, etc.) and special ones (method of analysis of analog objects, information processing, grouping). While researching the author concludes about necessity of the the following: to equip educational libraries technically; to update and strengthen the information base and book stocks of school libraries; to ensure the access of libraries to information resources, in particular the Internet; to form a unified electronic database of school library collections; to develop a form of resource integration with other educational libraries; to create a standing order on the status of libraries in basic schools; to develop a system for improving the skills of school library staff; to organize special training for school librarians to master their knowledge and skills of a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, the school librarian must be trained according to a separate professional specialization. The social life development requires librarians to know not only the valeology bases, but the ability to navigate in information technologies, school curricula and training courses diversitys. Modern problems of information education and forming a high level of valeological culture can be solved only by combining the efforts of general education institutions and school libraries, teachers and librarians. Pedagogical experience shows that knowledge on the health formation and preservation is a necessary and insufficient factor in students' personality development. To influence the behavior, informative methods should be combined with life skills of effective work and rest, physical activity, rational nutrition, an ability to analyze health issues and make appropriate decisions. Thus, forming health culture through library-information activities provides arming school readers and librarians with knowledge on social and individual health and applying certain information technologies in their activities.
