The rally of around two million Muslims in Jakarta in November 2016 protesting against alleged religious defamation committed  by Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama made the  headlines in  Indonesian mainstream newspapers; Kompas and Republika. However, both newspapers came out with different perspectives in accordance with their ideological background. Therefore, these differences lead to the question of  whether they would trigger a clash of civilization as pointed by S. Huntington stating that the vast post-cold war conflicts would be represented by Western Civilization, China Civilization, and Islam Civilization. This study formulates the problems including: (1) How is the clash of civilization built through the symptoms constructed in Kompas and Republika newspapers? and; (2) How do the intertextual aspects build the clash of civilization semiotically through the texts of the news in Kompas and Republika related to the November 4, 2016 rally? The paradigm used is the critical paradigm with qualitative approach, while the data are analyzed by using Kristeva Semiotic Method. The results of the research include; the mass media has been  a field of  the symbolic war among civilizations, meaning that the clash of civilizations on media is manifested through the symbolic conflict upheaval operated semiotically by Kompas and Republika. The news of November 4, 2016 rally in both newspapers serves as a battlefield of meanings as well as the field of a clash of civilizations.

This paper aims to explain the con?ict on North Maluku Island or North Halmahera in 1999 to be more specifc. When compared with the con?ict in Ambon, the con?ict in North Halmahera is much greater in terms of the number of victims and material losses. There are several factors that in?uenced the con?ict such as politics, economics and religion. It seems that politics and religion were the dominant underlying factors of the con?ict. At that time, the mass media did not report the con?ict e?ectively, so that the resolution of the con?ict came too late and the con?ict escalated and spread to the entire region of North Maluku. The most fundamental thing causing the con?ict was associated with regional growth (pemekaran), namely the emergence of a new sub-district within the existing sub-district of Kao. The new sub-district was created by the Makian, who are migrants from the island of Kie Besi in North Maluku. They pushed the government to establish a new sub-district of Makian Daratan within the sub-district of Kao. The Pagu people, natives to the area, rejected the regional growth. There was a demonstration that ended in a fght between the Pagu and the Makian. Coincidentally, most of the Pagu are Christian and all of theMakian areMuslim. This led to religious issues becoming a factor with certain parties. As a result, this was a horizontal con?ict wrapped with religious issues. In terms of methodology, this paper was written using a qualitative approach that produces descriptive data about the con?icts in North Halmahera. The analysis of the feld data was undertaken using some theories of con?ict. As a conclusion it can be stated that the con?ict in North Halmahera is basically a con?ict of interest that is wrapped with religious issues.

Mediatization serves as a starting point for developing a theoretical framework of external organizational communication. The overall importance of the mass media affects organizations: Organizations have to adapt to the logic of the mass media in order to gain attention in the media society. Thus, organizations make not only attempts to influence mass media; mass media also have an impact on organizations. The mutually dependent relationship between media and organizations is examined on the basis of a symbolic-interactionist communication theory. The structural characteristics of a mediated public sphere provide the backdrop for the complex relationships between mass media and organizations. Finally, the consequences of mediatization for organizations are discussed.
