An attempt was made to take a fresh look at a significant event for Soviet science that happened more than 70 years ago – the Joint scientific session of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, dedicated to the problems of the physiological doctrine of academician I.P. Pavlov (June 28 – July 4, 1950). The memoirs of contemporaries of that memorable event were analyzed based on a new reading of the speeches of the participants, published in the verbatim record of the scientific session. For the first time, authors examined the report of the physiologist M.M. Koltsova, who was considered one of those who wanted and offered to “close” psychology. Also, for the first time in historiography of the “Pavlovian” session, authors analyzed the unfulfilled (but published in the verbatim record) speech of the employee of the Institute of philosophy of the USSR Academy of Sciences S.A. Petrushevsky, in which he highlighted the state of contemporary psychology in the USSR and outlined the prospects for its development. As a significant result of the analysis of the materials reflected in the verbatim record authors considered the fact that in the texts of the speeches and in the resolution of the session there was not found an extremely (sharply) negative mention of psychology and psychologists, therefore, the opinion of some authors about the existing decision to “close” psychology, expressed in the session, has not yet been confirmed. Some consequences of this scientific event were considered: the teaching of I.P. Pavlov began to spread directively; after the death of I.V. Stalin the interest in Pavlov's works declined; there were words about the urgent need to create a special psychological institution in the system of the USSR Academy of Sciences. It is shown that the session caused a high activity of psychologists, which led to the strengthening of its methodological positions and scientific-organizational structures.

Referring to a corpus of epistolary sources kept in the personal archival fund of academician V. I. Vernadsky in the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences (correspondence sent to him from Crimea) and documents from the St Petersburg branch of the RAS Archive and the Department of Written Sources of the State Historical Museum, the author restores some aspects of the daily life of Crimean local history of the 1920s–1930s. Vernadsky’s attention to people and events on the peninsula are connected with a dramatic period of his biography, i.e. his unexpected tenure as rector of the University of Taurida (October 1920 — January 1921). Thanks to the participation of the university in the activities of the Taurida Scientific Association, the academician formed a social circle of scientists from different fields of knowledge in Crimea. The analysis of Vernadsky’s correspondence helps define his range of interests related to Crimean affairs after his departure from Crimea. Vernadsky, not indifferent to the fate of Taurida University (M. V. Frunze Pedagogical Institute) (during the years in question described as Crimean University), was interested in the fate of the prominent professors who he worked with at the university in 1920. Thanks to the Crimean correspondence of A. I. Markevich, the leader of the local history movement, the author has been able to clarify the fate of individual manuscripts by V. I. and G. V. Vernadsky and the history of transfer of funds of the pioneers of comprehensive exploration of the peninsula P. I. Köppen and H. H. Steven to the Archives of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The epistolary heritage of geologists P. A. Dvoichenko and S. P. Popova, Vernadsky’s former colleagues at Taurida University, makes it possible to recreate the pages of the research of the natural productive forces of Crimea carried out in those years. In his correspondence with professors E. V. Petukhov and N. L. Ernst, Vernadsky discussed individual issues that worried scientists.

The article presents the results of research on a number of previously undescribed works by Yuri Pimenov, an academician of the USSR Academy of arts and people's artist of the USSR. The author for the first time carried out a comparative analysis of three paintings from the collection of the State Art Museum of Altai Krai – “Railway station”, “Apple Trees in the rain” and “Decorating the column”. Here coloristics, composition and plot of paintings are studied. The author analyzes the motif of the way and road, the characters of each painting, and describes the color scheme of the paintings. Similar features and motives have been identified in paintings belonging to the pre-war, post-war periods and the time of Great Patriotic war. The described paintings deepen the idea of Yuri Pimenov as an artist of the war years. For the first time in the history of obstetrics and gynecology gives information about the structure and activities of the scientific school of academician G. E. Rein, implemented in the first half of the 20th century not only in Russian Empire, the RSFSR and the USSR, but at the medical faculty of Sofia University (Bulgaria). The best of the students, who founded their own schools in the USSR are identified. They included professors, headed the departments of obstetrics and gynecology in Russian, Soviet and Bulgarian universities (medical schools): G. G. Bruno, V. L. Lozinsky, A. P. Neelov, G. F. Pisemsky, A. A. Redlikh, K. K. Skrobansky, I. V. Sudakov, A. P. Yakhontov, also D. Stamatov and B. Trichkov. Under the guidance of academician G. E. Rein they not only acquired practical skills or solved scientific problem of his time, but continued to develop their own original ideas and research directions suggested by his teacher, sharing and improving the proposals in obstetrics and gynecology. During the Civil War (1918-1920) scientific school of academician G. E. Rein suffered significant losses: in Kiev was killed professor G. G. Bruno (1919), Petrograd professor A. A. Redlikh (1919), the founder of the school, emigrated from Russia... To this day, its activity has not been the object of research, although prominent members of this school have achieved outstanding success, becoming one of the first academicians of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences in specialty “Obstetrics and Gynecology” (K. K. Skrobansky) or the founder of the national Obstetrics and Gynecology in Bulgaria (D. Stamatov). Hence, further research in the field of formation and activity of the scientific school of academician G. E. Rein is an actual scientific task.
