Introduction. Alignment between the philosophical value of the Western parent company and the structure of the local organization is essential to improve managing effectiveness and worker productivity. The alignment may need adjustment while considering whether a Western model is fitted into the Chinese workgroup. This study examines the philosophical value concerning business management within an organization and then explores which value is applicable to the modern Chinese structure in the context of Taiwan. Purpose and methods. The purpose is the holistic view of the Chinese model, as opposed to the separated approach of the West. It does not attempt to find the best philosophical framework of business management for local Chinese structure in Taiwan, as such a framework probably does not exist. Instead, it explores the specific phenomena considered during the process of emergence of business management framework when comparing philosophical value for both selected cases of Western and Chinese enterprises. The case study and PATOP model were used. Results. As a result, there has no single model that is absolutely appropriate to both business and people in one way or the other. Both Chinese and Western philosophical ways of doing business have merits and weaknesses, as illustrated. The implication of the results is the emerged PATOP model. The model indicates an ideal work environment where the Western approach is applicable to the Chinese structure in Taiwan. Conclusions. It concludes that the philosophical approach in doing business within the Chinese structure is erected in a way of “Middle of the Road” according to the PATOP emerged from the study. However, it should be noted that there will be drift as this emerged PATOP model used in the Chinese structure with western approach, indicating another issue “what an acceptable time for drift would be”?

With the recognition of the importance of organizational knowledge management (KM), researchers have paid increasing attention to knowledge management systems (KMS). However, since most prior studies were conducted in the context of Western societies, we know little about KMS diffusion in other regional contexts. Moreover, even with the increasing recognition of the influence of social factors in KM practices, there is a dearth of studies that examine how unique social cultural factors affect KMS diffusion in specific countries. To fill in this gap, this study develops an integrated framework, with special consideration on the influence of social cultures, to understand KMS diffusion in Chinese enterprises. In our framework, we examine how specific technological, organizational, and social cultural factors can influence the three-stage KMS diffusion process, that is, initiation, adoption, and routinization. This study provides a holistic view of the KMS diffusion in Chinese enterprises with practical guidance for successful KMS implementation.

This article argues that the embeddedness of Chinese enterprises in Singapore society explains the limited success of the nationalist movement in Singapore. To respond to the economic crisis in the 1930s, Chinese business elites employed nationalist rhetoric to appeal to their compatriots in the British colony to support Chinese “national products.” With dual allegiance to both British rule and Chinese national identity, Chinese business nationalists took a transnational approach. Because Chinese business communities in Singapore were organized along subethnic lines, Chinese transnationalism failed to surmount these social divisions.

Cyprus joined the European Union (EU) ten years ago opening the gates to common market. Cyprus citizens and businesses are now living in a highly competitive business environment. There are many benefits of Cyprus joining the EU and removing any barriers from the free movements of goods like larger variety of products and services, more choices, opening into international markets and the increase of antagonism which lead to the reduction, in some cases of prices, and better products. So the main targets of the Cypriot companies were to adapt their way of doing business and to be able to face the challenges of the new antagonistic environment. However, the big question is up to what point they managed to meet the new internationally accepted targets? So the main purpose of this joined research work is to investigate the importance, within time, the behaviour of the Cyprus enterprises, in Mechanical products and goods in the island of Cyprus. Through a national survey, using an accepted sampling plan, the opinions of the customers/consumers as well importers and manufacturers were investigated. A questionnaire consisting of 22 questions, was used to investigate the importance of the five main targets or business performance parameters, quality, speed, reliability, flexibility and cost of products. The two groups of respondents (consumers and suppliers) were asked to evaluate the 5 business performance targets ten years ago (before joining EU) and today in the view of the new data of globalization and Cyprus becoming a member of the EU. In detail there was an attempt to find the degree of changes - improvements or the opposite, in achieving the 5 importance targets in the last decade. Many conclusions were revealed, such as, in which areas there was improvement and by how much, the agreements or disagreements between the two groups of respondents, which is the most important parameter now according to customers and many others. The methodology adopted is very useful to companies that they decide to follow the road of continuous improvement and identify customer views and expectations.

In the course of previous comprehensive theoretical, methodological and empirical research of the authors, the main purpose of which was to identify ways of internationalization of Polish and Ukrainian enterprises. It was noted that a new model of business functioning is emerging, significantly different from the traditional model, in which the phenomenon of globalization underlies the process of internationalization of economic activity. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that the problem of studying specific practices of interaction between business structures in Poland and Ukraine, paradoxically, as a whole, is given insufficient attention (both in Polish and Ukrainian economic science). This served as the inspiration for writing this study, the main goal of which is to identify the features of the modern business model on the background of identifying the differences between the traditional and the current model in the context of existing threats and to find out the main (one of the main) reasons for such differences. The introduction refers to the methodology used for this study (specific research methods are methods of unity of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction and comparative analysis, as well as methods of grouping and extrapolation). The study is the result of the authors' own empirical research and a comparative theoretical analysis based on the literature on the topic, and is a common characteristic of both models. In general terms, the main features of the modern business model and trends in the European economy are presented on the example of Poland and Ukraine. Thus, the study is aimed at identifying trends in doing business in the modern market and its characteristic features in the context of the predicted increase in the role of factors of intercultural (transcultural) interaction in business.

“The Belt and Road Initiative” not only provides great opportunities but also poses enormous challenges to Chinese enterprises for further development. Along the Belt and the Road, there are different countries with unique culture characteristics, which will be the difficult challenges Chinese enterprises have to face in the overseas investment. The present study will combine PEST (Political, Economic, Social and Technological) model with Hofstede’s culture dimensions as the theoretical basis for analyzing the potential opportunities and challenges Chinese enterprises tend to confront in Poland. Based on a detailed analysis of the opportunities and challenges, this writing proposes three tentative cross-culture management strategies: (1) Investigating the local markets and identifying the culture differences; (2) Cultivating intercultural communication competence of the cross-culture employees; (3) Acculturating to the local society and making innovation based on culture fusion, which would be referential for Chinese enterprises to seek investment opportunities in the countries along the Belt and the Road.
