IntroductionMental disease is faced during the past years as a result of various factors, such as the participation of the family which sometimes has a negative aspect in the course of the disease.ObjectiveThrough the study of 15 families of the patients who live in the Residential Unit of Aspropirgos, we present the role of the family environment in the appearance and process of the disease.MethodWe observed the background of 15 patients of the Residential Unit. When they completed a month living in Aspropirgos, we completed their Personal and Social Performance Scale (PSP). At the same time, we accepted the patients’ families in four weekly sessions whose goal was to explore and cope effectively with the problems that led those patients to mental disease. Patients completed the same questionnaire in their 4th and 12th month of their stay in Aspropirgos while we continued to have monthly sessions with their families.ConclusionsPatients presented a decrease of their functionality in their 4th month in the Residential Unit (around 30%), which was accompanied by the resistance of their families in the suggestions of the therapeutic group. When 4 months were completed we put more strict limits regarding the relationships of the patients with their families, we even forbidded their contact with members who provoked the most severe dysfunction in the patient. At the end of 12 months we concluded that there was an improvement of up to 50–60% compared to patients’ situation in the 4th month.

Reading and writing are the initial stages of school education, without mastering which it is especially difficult, even impossible, to freely follow any educational system. The topic of learning difficulties has only begun to concern specialists in the last twenty years. Thus, going back to the past, we find that the problem of learning difficulties, although existing, did not concern specialists before the end of our century. The establishment and legalization of compulsory education has revealed a series of problems, including difficulties in education, ie. problems in learning, transmission and behavior that lead to adverse consequences both in school, in the family environment and mainly in the psycho-emotional development and balanced integration of the child in society.

AbstractThe mother–child relationship is essential in the development of a healthy child, who can grow up trusting his/her own perceptions and understanding of the social environment. Teenagers naturally experience a period of transition in search of their own identity as individuals, thus being really exposed and vulnerable to being recruited by jihadists. In this particular stage of development, the teenager tries to free himself/herself from the tutorship of the family and looks to experience something new outside the family frame. One of the defining characteristics of this stage is a tendency to take things to an extreme and to see things in black and white, while emotions are experienced as very intense, overwhelming and sometimes difficult to control. Teenagers are easy to impress, convince and manipulate, especially by their social milieu outside the family of origin. In the cases when the relationship with the family of origin becomes tensed – whether the child has been neglected or spoiled during childhood, or when there are tensions between parents or the family is conflicting – the teenager looks for validation outside the family environment. Any opportunity to do something out of the ordinary and apparently easy to accomplish might seem attractive for this category of individuals, especially for those that do not enjoy family support. The illusion of becoming famous or the attraction of glamour might seem desirable at this age. This is one of the main reasons why Jihad has had such a significant impact on Western converts to Islam. Therefore, the aim of this study is to provide an analysis of the case of Boicea Luigi Constantin (Umar al Rumaani), a Romanian that adhered to the extremist ideology of the Islamic State, who does not come from a Muslim family, yet underwent a fast self-radicalization process. In order to better understand Boicea’s case, we will try to present the result of the investigation conducted on the family environment, his interests manifested at an early age, and the tragic events that contributed to his radicalization; in other words, we will try to present the general context in which self-radicalization occurred.

Mentawai is an area consisting of several islands. However, there is one island that was initially notoccupied by the Mentawai people. It was Sipora located exactly in Tuapejat. The island was originallyonly used as a stopover for people who cross the island. However, as the region expands and thensearches for the capital region of the Regency, Sipora Island is chosen as a strategic location for theMentawai people who are on another island. In the past, Mentawai was still part of Pariaman Regency. Then this region became one of the transmigration areas of the population both from West Sumatraitself and from the island of Java. Because of the first entry of transmigration, as well as the existenceof Mentawai people from other islands, they mixed together with a variety of customs and habits. Therefore this paper examines the forms of community adaptation in Tuapejat, Mentawai, West SumatraProvince. This paper uses qualitative approach. The data are collected through interview andobservation. The result of the research shows that there is good adaptation ability among the people inMentawai with the newcomers. The first proces of adaptation is done from the family environment. Theadoption of value is first done in the family before family members interact in the wider environmentsuch as the community. Religious and cultural differences are common in Tuapejat society, especiallyfor Mentawai people. Religious and cultural differences are not a problem among them because theygive priority to mutual respect and value for each difference.

The burden of caregivers has been intensively researched for the past 30 years and has resulted in a multitude of individual findings. This review illustrates the significance of the hypothetical construct of perceived burden for the further development and design of the homecare situation. Following explanations regarding the term informal caregiver, we derive the construct burden from its conceptual association with the transactional stress model of Lazarus and Folkman. Once the extent and characteristics of burden have been set forth, we then present the impact of perceived burden as the care situation. The question of predictors of burden will lead into the last section from which implications can be derived for homecare and relief of caregivers.
