SPECIES OF LICHENS RECOMMENDED FOR INCLUSION IN THE NEW EDITION OF THE RED DATA BOOK OF THE REPUBLIC OF DAGESTAN

During on the field work of 2009–2020 years were obtained data on diversity, distribution and oc-currence of lichens in the Republic of Dagestan including data on rare and endangered species. Based on them we recommend 24 species for inclusion in the new edition of the red data book of the Republic of Dagestan. Among them, 8 species are included in the red book of the Russian Fed-eration (Leptogium burnetiae, L. hildenbrandii, Letharia vulpina, Lobaria pulmonaria, Nephromopsis laureri, Ricasolia amplissima, Tornabea scutellifera, Usnea florida), 16 species are rare and vulnerable in the region (Anaptychia elbursiana, A. roemeri, Chaenotheca hispidula, Circinaria vagans, Coniocarpon cinnabarinum, Enterographa hutchinsiae, Flavoparmelia soredians, Hypotrachyna laevigata, Inoderma byssaceum, Lecanographa lyncea, Lobarina scrobiculata, Pannaria conoplea, Parmelina quercina, Sclerophora farinacea, Seirophora lacunosa, Usnea articulata). Most of the species (20) were proposed to be included with «Vulnerable» category, 2 species (Leptogium burnetiae, Nephromopsis laureri) with «Near Threatened» and 2 species (Tornabea scutellifera, Usnea florida) with «Least Concern». Most of the lichens recommended on protection are epiphytes and concentrated in forest communities on the Coastal lowland (Samur river Delta), in mountain broadleaved and mixed forests.

The genus Iris Tourn. ex L. of the family Iridaceae Juss. there are 200 different species in the Northern Hemisphere. There are more than 30 species of this genus in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, some of which are endemic to Azerbaijan or the Caucasus. All irises are decorative and used in ornamental gardening. Iris caucasica Stev. (Iris caucasica Hoffm.) and I. lycotis Woronow (Iris iberica subsp. lycotis (Woronow) Takht.) grows on rocky and grassy slopes of The Garagush Mountain. Iris caucasica Stev. is included in the Red Data Book of Nakhchivan AR as an important subcatagory of protection with the status of Lower Risk — LR (a — Conservation Dependent — CD). Iris lycotis Woronow has been to its activity and other abiotics factors, its range is reduced its biology is poorly studied and it is included as an endangered species in the Red Data Book of Nakhchivan AR with the status of Near Threatened — NT. Species included in this category should be enshrined in special protected areas and their biological characteristics should be studied.

The high mountainous beech (Fagus orientalis) forests of Dagestan which are a refugium of the species with oceanic/suboceanic distribution in the arid conditions of the East Caucasus have been studied for the first time, and 140 species of lichens, lichenicolous and non-lichenized fungi growing on beech have been revealed. Among them 3 species (Leptogium burnetiae, Lobaria pulmonaria, and Ricasolia amplissima) are endangered lichens included in the red data book of Russia. Seven species (Abrothallus nephromatis, A. peyritschii, Biatora beckhausii, Biatoropsis usnearum, Bryoria vrangiana, Dactylospora lobariella, and Usnea fragilescens) and 2 genera (Biatoropsis and Ramonia) are reported for the first time for the East Caucasus; 10 species (Collema nigrescens, C. subnigrescens, Gyalecta fagicola, G. herculina, Lecanora intumescens, Leptogium burnetiae, L. cyanescens, Melanohalea elegantula, Nephroma helveticum, and Ramonia luteola) and the genus Biatora are new for Dagestan. The record of Ramonia luteola is the second for Russia and the Caucasus. Most of the lichens are with trebouxioid photobiont, cyanolichens are represented by 20 species, lichens with trentepohlioid photobiont — by 14 species. Reproductive strategy by spores is prevailing. Vegetative diaspores are formed by 51 species of which 46 are fruticose and foliose. The species from Lobarion pulmonariae community are revealed. The presence of rare and endangered species shows a high value of studied community for nature protection.

The paper provides information about lichens found on the territory of the state natural reserve Zavolzhsky, which is a specially protected natural area of the Chuvash Republic. It was established for the protection of the unique natural landscape, located on the territory of Cheboksary and Cheboksary District, as well as for rare and endangered animals, plants and other organisms from high anthropogenic activity. As a result of lichen investigations (2011-2016) 134 species belong to 59 genera from 31 families of lichen flora were recorded. It emphasizes a high environmental significance of this territory. The paper shows substrate and biotope confinement for each lichen species. The investigations were conducted in detail-route method using a GPS-navigator. In the paper the locations of rare lichen species are given according to the new quarterly network of the Cheboksary forestry. We examined the lichen diversity in 14 quarters of 3 forest districts: Pihtulynskoe, Severnoe, Sosnovskoe; lichen collections were carried out in 36 habitats. The habitat of rare and endangered lichen Lobaria pulmonaria was found on the territory of the reserve. This species is included to the Red Data Book of Russia. According to the results of the study we recommend to include 15 rare lichen species to the new edition of Red Data Book of the Chuvash Republic: Arthonia cinereoprunosa , Acrocordia gemmata , Bryoria implexa , Bryoria subcana , Bryoria nadvornikiana , Dimerella pineti , Lobaria pulmonaria , Mycobilimbia epixanthoides , Mycobilimbia carneoalbida , Mycobilimbia tetramera , Platismatia glauca , Usnea dasopoga , Usnea lapponica , Usnea subfloridana , Xanthomendoza ulophyllodes.

The European White Elm (Ulmus effusa Willd.) is indicated as a rare and endangered species in the growing stock of the Republic of Serbia. In the area of Great War Island, its natural populations were reduced to 56 registered trees, which occur in three spatially isolated subpopulations. On the basis of the research conducted on the level of variability of adaptible morphometric characteristics of leaves from 14 selected test trees of European White Elm, it can be concluded that the degree of interpopulation variability is satisfactory, which is a good basis for the conservation of the available gene pool.

Conservation and reproduction of rare genotypes of Salix L. species, in particular the blunt-leaved willow (Salix retusa L.) and Jacquin’s Willow (Salix alpina Scop.) that are listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine in the status of rare and endangered species, is one of the urgent tasks of the present. The aim of research was to develop methods of introduction of S. retusa and S. alpina into in vitro culture for their mass reproduction and conservation. The plant material was cultivated on a culture medium prescribed by MS, WPM, and DKW with the addition of growth regulators according to the conventional method. Effective sterilization (over 80%) of explants of S. retusa and S. alpina was achieved by applying a stepwise method, which consisted of consistently maintaining them in solutions 0.1% HgCl2 and 1.0% AgNO3 for 5–6 min. Significant results in the regeneration of explants by activating the growth of available meristems in vitro were observed on MS with the addition of 0.25–0.5 mg/l 6-(Furfurylaminopurine, kinetin) and 2 g/l activated carbon. Our further research will serve as a base for developing microclonal propagation of S. retusa and S. alpina for their conservation and reproduction in vitro.

Thirteen lichen species proposed for the Red Data Book of Republic of Ingushetia on based of the results of author's field works and analysis of literature information. Among them, three species are included in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation (Leptogium burnetiae, Lobaria pulmonaria, Usnea florida). Ten lichen species are rare and vulnerable due to the state of populations in the Republic of Ingushetia at the current time (Hyperphyscia granulata, Melanelixia albertana, Neo-catapyrenium rhizinosum, Parmotrema stuppeum, Peltula bolanderi, Phaeophyscia cernohorskyi, Phaeophyscia insignis, Punctelia borreri, Thalloidima toninianum, Usnea cavernosa). Information on distribution in the republic, ecology and proposed categories of the threatened are given. Most of the species (10) were proposed to be included with «Near Threatened» category, 1 species (Leptogium burnetiae) with «Critically Endargered», 1 species (Lobaria pulmonaria) with «Data Deficient» and 1 species (Usnea florida) with «Least Concern».

Argali living on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan are listed in the Red Book and need special protection of the state. The number of these animals is falling every year. Urgent measures are being taken to preserve the existing species of argali in all their genetic diversity. One of the promising methods of preserving the gene pool of endangered species of wild animals is the method of deep freezing of sperm and embryo transplantation. The argali or mountain sheep species includes several subspecies that are quite well studied and differ in their external characteristics: ⦁ altai ram or Оvis аmmоn аmmоn; ⦁ anatolian mouflon or Оvis аmmоn аnаtоliса; ⦁ bukhara ram or Оvis аmmоn bосhаrеnsis; ⦁ kazakh argali or Оvis аmmоn соllium; ⦁ gansu argali or Оvis аmmоn dаlаilаmае; ⦁ tibetan mountain sheep or Оvis аmmоn hоdgsоnii; ⦁ north China mountain sheep or Оvis аmmоn jubаtа; ⦁ tianshan mountain sheep or Оvis аmmоn kаrelini; ⦁ argali Kozlova or Оvis аmmоn kоzlоvi; ⦁ karatau mountain sheep or Оvis аmmоn nigrimоntаnа; ⦁ cyprus ram or Оvis аmmоn орhiоn; ⦁ mountain ram marco polo or Оvis аmmоn роlii; ⦁ kyzylkum mountain sheep or Оvis аmmоn sеvеrtzоvi; ⦁ urmian mouflon or Оvis аmmоn urmiаnа. Conservation of biological diversity around the world is now deservedly given great attention. The problem of accelerated reproduction of genetic resources has become particularly relevant at the present time, when the Red Book is becoming larger every year, and the world around us is becoming poorer. Every year, the planet loses many species of animals and plants. Therefore, the search for conservation opportunities for endangered populations of wild animals is not only of scientific, but also of great practical interest. The theoretical basis for the conservation of rare and endangered species of wild animals in Kazakhstan has not yet been developed and has not yet been sufficiently studied. The use of biotechnological techniques makes it possible to preserve the genetic basis of valuable and endangered animal species.

Two projects: Conservation and use of genetic resources of non-traditional crops, related wild species and wild species for food and agriculture; and Characterization and evaluation of diversity of wheat and their wild relatives and utilising in breeding involve research into rare and endangered species in the territory of Slovakia. In Slovakia, many threatened and rare plant species occur. In this group of plants, <I>Aegilops cylindrica </I>Host and <I>Arctous alpina </I>(L.) Nied are also listed. They are registered in the Red Data Book of Slovakia. To locate the occurrences of these species, we have used a GPS system. In this article, we illustrate using GIS (Geographic Information System) in plant conservation.

The author offers mapping and geoecological analysis of the Russian Federation regions presence in the state program “Environmental Protection”. The unequal distribution of the program’s targets and activities in different regions is revealed. A considerable number of relevant environmental problems for several mentioned regions have not been reflected in the program. It is important to increase the area of specially protected natural areas for a significant number of subjects of the Russian Federation. The status “part of the territory occupied by specially protected natural territories of Federal value in the total area of the subject of the Russian Federation” is recommended to be assigned all regions of Russia. Identification and elimination of objects of accumulated environmental damage that threat to the Volga river is relevant, at least for all the regions in which the Volga flows. Not all regions with a high level of air pollution and/or large masses of air pollutants have the indicator “reduction of total emissions for the reporting year”. It is necessary to increase the Program of measures for the protection of rare and endangered species of plants and to expand the list of regions in which it is planned to protect rare and endangered species of animals.
