This paper presents a novel bidirectional double uneven power (BiDUP) based dc-dc converter and its design and control methods. The proposed converter utilizes two dual active bridge (DAB) converters with different power ratings in a special way to realize zero current switching (ZCS), where both turn-on and turn-off switchings occur under the zero-current condition. A design example of the proposed BiDUP converter is presented for medium voltage (MV) and high-power solid-state transformer (SST) systems where both voltage transformation and bidirectional power flow are required. The main features of the proposed converter are to reduce both the switching losses in power semiconductor devices and the filter inductance requirement simultaneously. To verify the feasibility of the proposed converter, a simulation study on the BiDUP converter based SST in a distribution system is presented. Furthermore, to validate the operational principle of the proposed converter, an experimental study using a small-scale prototype is also presented.

The low voltage DC (LVDC) distribution system is a new concept and a promising technology to be used in the future smart distribution system having high level cost-efficiency and reliability. In this paper, a low-voltage (LV) DC microgrid protection system design is proposed. Usually, an LVDC microgrid must be connected to an ac grid through converters with bidirectional power flow and, therefore, a different protection scheme is needed. This paper describes practical protection solutions for the LVDC network and an LVDC system laboratory prototype is being experimentally tested by MATLAB/SIMULINK. The results show that it is possible to use available devices to protect such a system. But other problems may arise which needs further study.

The conventional Bidirectional Full-bridge dc -dc converter is inefficient and may not be practical for the low power applications. This paper specifies an efficient DC-DC Converter that avoids power losses by using soft switching techniques like Zero Voltage Switching and Zero Current switching. The soft switching of Bidirectional Full-bridge DC-DC Converter operates as a buck converter when the power is positive and as a boost converter when the power flow is negative. Applications of soft switching Bidirectional Full-bridge DC-DC Converter are uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), distribution Systems, battery charger circuits, telecom power supplies, computer power systems. Detailed analysis of the converter is carried out in buck mode to obtain relations between the power circuit parameters. Based on the analysis, control schemes are described to operate the converter. The proposed full bridge DC-DC converter is simulated in Buck mode using MATLAB /SIMULINK.

This paper presents a tightly regulated multi-output isolated converter that employs only an independently regulated synchronous Single-Switched Post-Regulator (SSPR). The proposed converter is a highly accurate single-ended secondary side post-regulator based on a Series Resonant Converter (SRC); furthermore, it has a voltage-doubler characteristic. The proposed post-regulator requires only one auxiliary switch, in contrast with a bulky and expensive non-isolated DC–DC converter. Moreover, the added voltage-doubler can tightly regulate the slave output current. In addition, the voltage-doubler can improve electromagnetic interference characteristics and reduce switching losses arising from the Zero Current Switching (ZCS) operation of all power switches. The validity of the proposed converter is verified using experimental results obtained via a prototype converter applicable to an LED 3D TV power supply.

This paper presents a symmetrical topology for the design of solid-state transformer; made up of power switching converters; to replace conventional bulky transformers. The proposed circuitry not only reduces the overall size but also provides power flow control with the ability to be interfaced with renewable energy resources (RESs) to fulfill the future grid requirements at consumer end. The proposed solid-state transformer provides bidirectional power flow with variable voltage and frequency operation and has the ability to maintain unity power factor; and total harmonic distortion (THD) of current for any type of load within defined limits of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard. Solid state transformer offers much smaller size compared to the conventional iron core transformer. MATLAB/Simulink platform is adopted to test the validity of the proposed circuit for different scenarios by providing the simulation results evaluated at 25 kHz switching frequency.

This paper is an overview of some of the main issues in photovoltaic based distributed generation (PVDG). A discussion of the harmonic distortion produced by PVDG units is presented. The maximum permissible penetration level of PVDG in distribution system is also considered. The general procedures of optimal planning for PVDG placement and sizing are also explained in this paper. The result of this review shows that there are different challenges for integrating PVDG in the power systems. One of these challenges is integrated system reliability whereas the amount of power produced by renewable energy source is consistent. Thus, the high penetration of PVDG into grid can decrease the reliability of the power system network. On the other hand, power quality is considered one of the challenges of PVDG whereas the high penetration of PVDGs can lead to more harmonic propagation into the power system network. In addition to that, voltage fluctuation of the integrated PVDG and reverse power flow are two important challenges to this technology. Finally, protection of power system with integrated PVDG is one of the most critical challenges to this technology as the current protection schemes are designed for unidirectional not bidirectional power flow pattern.

This paper presents the performance analysis of proposed circuit of Single-Phase Reduced Order AC-AC Resonant Frequency Converter. AC-AC converter is minimized number of switches for multi-operation and resonant converter is converter work on the principle of ZCS (Zero Current Switching) and ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) combining both topology, which provide better output with reduce THD and switching losses. A mathematical modeling is done for proper value of used parameters in converter. The output of converter is improved by applying Modulation technique in this converter we are using Trapezoidal Pulse Width Modulation (TPWM) for the better performance and control. THD of the converter is calculated by using MATLAB simulation software. MATALB simulation of AC –AC Resonate Frequency Converter is done by using MOSFET as switch.
