As the problems of electromagnetic pollution and interference are becoming increasingly serious, the development of electromagnetic absorption materials with a high absorption capacity and broad absorption bandwidth are stringently needed. In this work, an N-doped 2D carbon/Ni complex is synthesized through direct microwave irradiation on a mixed solution of nickel nitrate, urea, and agarose under N2. The electromagnetic absorption performance can be tuned by controlling the Ni content. Specifically, minimum reflection loss values (RLmin) of −65.5 dB at 15.8 GHz with an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.2 GHz at a sample thickness of 1.47 mm, and −55.4 dB at 11.8 GHz with an EAB of 3 GHz at a sample thickness of 1.92 mm can be obtained. The outstanding performance of electromagnetic absorption is attributed to the multiple polarization relaxation processes and the synergistic effect between 2D carbon sheets and Ni particles.

AbstractElectromagnetic pollution has been causing a series of problems in people’s life, and electromagnetic absorbers with lightweight and broad absorbing bandwidth properties are widely desired. In this work, novel sandwich-like 2D laminated Fe&TiO2 nanoparticles@C nanocomposites were rationally designed and successfully developed from the MXene–MOFs hybrids. The formation of Fe and rutile-TiO2 nanoparticles sandwiched by the two-dimensional carbon nanosheets provided strong electromagnetic energy attenuation and good impedance matching for electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption. As expected, the nanocomposites achieved a broad effective absorption bandwidth of 6.5 GHz at a thickness of only 1.6 mm and the minimum reflection loss (RL) value of − 51.8 dB at 6.6 GHz with a thickness of 3 mm. This work not only provides a good design and fabricating concept for the laminated metal and functional nanoparticles@C nanocomposites with good EMW absorption, but also offers an important guideline to fabricate various two-dimensional nanocomposites derived from the MXene precursors.

A facile one-step method was developed for the first time to fabricate BiOCl film on Cu substrate by simply dipping the Cu substrate in the mixed solution containing HCl, glycol, H2O2 and BiCl3. This method shows the advantages of a simple technique, uniform and controllable morphology, as well as easy mass production. The absorption capacity of BiOCl film was investigated by adsorption of Rhodamine B and Congo red (CR) and their maximum adsorption capacities were 1667[Formula: see text]mg[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] and 1429[Formula: see text]mg[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text], respectively. The negative values of free energy and the positive values of enthalpy suggested that the adsorption were spontaneous and endothermic, respectively. Moreover, both adsorptions were matched with the pseudo-second-order equation. This film could be reused and the recycle rates for Rhodamine B and CR were still about 95% and 75% after five cycles, respectively. The adsorption mechanism revealed that hydrogen bond mainly accounted for the adsorption of dyes.

Electromagnetic pollution in general and the harmful effects of microwave radiation in particular on environment is currently in the urgent stage. To eliminate the effect of electromagnetic energy the most common methods relies on the use of absorbing materials with large absorption capacities in wide frequency band. In this paper, we investigate the capability of absorption of electromagnetic waves of Fe3O4 nanoparticles in paraffin basis. The Fe3O4/paraffin composite materials were prepared with a weight ratio of 35%/65%. The dielectric constant (εr) and the magnetic permeability (μr) in the frequency (f) range from 8 to 18 GHz were measured for various sample thicknesses. The results indicated a large dielectric loss and strong thickness dependence of absorption capacity. The maximum absorption coefficient (RL) is of order -13.6 dB, corresponding to the achieved absorbance of 96,9% for the 2.6 mm of sample thickness. The experimental results are consisted with our simulation calculation.
