The paper describes the heavy abrasive belt grinding technology and the conventional machining method to reduce thickness of connecting rod head, analyses the technique difficulties with the latter, brings forward a reasonable new method which can reduce thickness by heavy abrasive belt grinding, expatiates on the grinding result with the grinder which is designed by this method, finally summarizes and prospects to this new method.

As a new process, the abrasive belt grinding plays an increasingly important role in the field of machining. It meets a variety of processing requirements. The concept of abrasive belt grinding and its working principle were introduced, and a new type of abrasive belt grinding equipment for removing the rust on steel wire surface was designed. Some key experiments for testing grinding force,the metal removal rate,belt wear rate、grinding ratio,grinding depth and wire speed were studied. The research work provides rational parameters for the pretreatment of rust removal in metal wire drawing processing.

Marine propeller blade is composite of the free form surface, its machining method has been a difficult thing. The blade is processed by 4-axis belt grinding machine in this experiment, this paper analyze that the wear of the abrasive belt and the processing precision and the material removal rate of the blade according to the grinding performance of the blade material, the structural features of the vane, and the theory of 4-aixs belt grinding machine. Draw formulas with time for the belt wear height and the actual grinding depth. The life expectancy of the ceramic abrasive belt is the longest, and its the material removal rate is maximum in Three kinds of belt,and when the belt line speed is 30m/s or so, the material removal rate is maximum.

For the weaknesses in the precision machining to leaves, the overall structure model of TX-6 CNC abrasive belt grinding machine was established by the soft of Inventor, and the grinding trajectory was planned. The finite element model, static stiffness and modal analysis of the machine were established. The design of TX-6 CNC abrasive belt grinding machine have been approved.

As a new technique integrating grinding and polishing, the technology of abrasive belt grinding is considered as a processing method with high quality, high efficiency, low consumption and wide range of application owing to its features of high processing efficiency, “cold” grinding, stable grinding speed, high precision and low costs. Taking aluminum alloy material as object of study and on the basis of the grinding technology of surface abrasive belt grinding machine, this paper carried out in-depth experimental study on the grinding mechanism of abrasive belt with aluminum alloy materials.

A highly efficient precision grinding method was proposed for the development of Zr-4 alloy used in nuclear industry. The key techniques to develop this new grinding machine are presented in detail, including soft grinding wheel head, ultrasonic thickness measurement system. An automatic polishing and grinding system was built, which is based on ultrasonic thickness measurement technology. According to a lot of grinding experiments, reasonable, accurate and efficient Zr-4 Alloy grinding parameters was determined. The experiments show that when the line speed of belt is about 18 m/s; the workpiece feed rate is 1000mm/min; grinding head cylinder pressure is 0.12Mpa, the silicon carbide abrasive belt of P80 particle size can get 0.02mm grinding amount and achieve excellent grinding effect.
