To meet the stringent requirements of heat-resistance products for aerospace applications, an Al-4.0Cu-1.3Mg-0.6Si alloy containing a cubic σ phase (Al5Cu6Mg2) with excellent high temperature stability was developed. Influence of deformation on aging precipitation behavior of the alloy was investigated by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results indicated that cold deformation had great effect on aging precipitation behavior in the alloy. When the alloy was processed a pre-stretching deformation before aging, the precipitation of σ phase was restrained while the S′ phase (Al2CuMg) was promoted. And the nucleation sites played an important role on them.

Predeformation on tensile properties and microstructure of three Al-Cu-Li alloys, 1460, 2050 and 2A96 was investigated. The strength of the alloys is enhanced by the predeformation. Meanwhile, predeformation impacts the precipitation of T1 (Al2CuLi) and θ′(θ′′) (Al2Cu) phases. The precipitation (nucleation rate) of T1 is accelerated by the predeormation, and the effect is increased with the predeformation degree. While, effect on θ′(θ′′) precipitation is dependent on the alloy composition feature. In the 2A96 alloy with a medium Cu/Li ratio, it is decelerated by the predeformation. In the 2050 alloy with high Cu/Li ratio and 1460 alloy with low Cu/Li ratio but subjected to two-step aging at 130°C and 160°C, the θ′(θ′′) precipitation is accelerated at lower predeformation but decelerated at higher predeformation.

The Cu-Ag-Cr alloy is a kind of aging hardening copper alloy and has excellent combination properties of high strength and good electrical and thermal conductivity. In the present investigation, the aging precipitation behavior of Cu-Ag-Cr alloy is studied, and the effects of aging processes on the microstructure and properties are discussed. Emphasis is on the correlation between the coherency and coarsening behavior of the Cr precipitates. When the alloy aging at low annealing temperatures, the homogeneous dispersed Cr precipitates are observed to be approximately spherical and keep coherent with Cu matrix in the Cu-Ag-Cr alloy, the coherency is lost between at 450°C~520°C, coherency on coarsening process of Cr precipitates at high annealing temperatures, the radium for coherent / semi-coherent transition of the Cr precipitates is determined from TEM micrographs as 15-45nm. Aging in the intermediate stage, coherent and semi-coherent particles can co-exist(15<r<45nm). The precipitation can be accelerated by cold deformation before aging, the 60% deformed Cu-Ag-Cr alloy aging at 480°C for 1h, the hardness and electrical conductivity can respectively reach to 158HV and 85%IACS.
