San Jose City College offers a comprehensive Certificate of Specialization in Peer Leader Training for students who are gainfully employed in Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) and/or Supplemental Instruction (SI) programs. Led by veteran Peer Leaders (PLs), faculty and support staff, newly hired PLs begin their intensive training at two biannual orientations scheduled during summer and winter intersessions. PLTL & SI PLs are also expected to concurrently enroll in one of three 0.5 unit training courses over three semesters and attend monthly one-hour meetings with faculty coordinators and staff, while facilitating weekly PLTL and/or SI workshops. Additionally, PLTL PLs enroll in a 0.5-unit directed studies course and meet weekly with their Lead Faculty PLTL Practitioner to ensure course material and workshop activities are aligned. Among their employment responsibilities, PLs are expected to also engage in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) observations, both as observees and observers. Their active participation in P2P duty plays an important role in maintaining the quality of student participants’ experiences in workshops while simultaneously furthering their professional development and is the focus of this paper.

Fluency, precision, and quality of simultaneous interpretation depend on the speaker and peculiarities of this speech, which can also act as destabilizing factors of his performance. Such factors include speaking rate, intonation, accent, pausing, syntax of spoken speech, and lexical composition. This article describes the results of analysis of making pauses in speech on the example of the speeches of two politicians (F. Hollande and N. Sarkozy) delivered to different audience. The goal of this research is to determine the impact of logical or illogical pausing upon simultaneous interpretation. The author concludes that a number of patterns can be traced in arrangement of pauses during simultaneous interpretation: place, duration, and frequency. The obtained results demonstrate that each speaker places pauses differently, which may directly affect the quality of simultaneous interpretation. The aforementioned patterns can be taken into account in development of exercises for teaching simultaneous interpretation at the initial stage, mastering certain skills at the advanced level, or selecting speech material for intensive training courses.

The aim of this study was to evaluate phenology aspect, vigor, production and quality of ‘Eragil’ peach trees grown under different training and pruning systems. Evaluations were carried out during two seasons, 2015/16 and 2016/17. Fruit tree training and pruning systems ‘Open Center’ (3.5 × 5.0 m), ‘Ipsilon’ (1.5 × 5.0 m) and ‘Central Leader’ (0.8 × 5.0 m) were used. Phenology, vegetative growth (vigor) and yield were evaluated. ‘Central Leader’ plants showed a higher productivity and productive efficiency. ‘Open Center’ plants had a greater vigor and yield per plant, however had a lower yield by unit area. Plants with ‘Y’ shape were intermediates between ‘Open Center’ and ‘Central Leader’ in relation of the evaluated variables. ‘Central Leader’ training system can be used for peach orchards in order to increase yield and productivity indexes.

Abstract Menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) is an emerging public health priority. To support policy and practice, large-scale surveys monitoring water, sanitation, and hygiene and reproductive health have started to incorporate MHH. Insights gained from these surveys are contingent on the quality of the measures used. Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020 (PMA2020) was one of the first survey programs to include MHH. We undertook four focus group discussions with resident enumerators and one with their female supervisors following the 2018 PMA2020 survey in Niamey, Niger and synthesized their insights on the performance of the MHH measures used. Enumerators reported that questions about menstruation were well tolerated and most were understood conceptually. Discussions identified missing response options for the places used for MHH and suggest that enumerator training should include common brands of menstrual materials to ensure data quality. Further, current questions seeking to capture the privacy and safety of locations used for MHH require modification or more intensive training efforts to consistently capture these concepts. Enumerator perspectives on menstrual needs in Niger highlight topics missing from MHH monitoring. Attending to enumerator expertise has the capacity to strengthen future surveys directed toward understudied health and development challenges such as MHH.

Aquatic therapy interventions are critical for individuals with disabilities and the role of the therapist is just as critical for successful and effective interventions. The field of therapeutic recreation trains students to develop and implement evidence-based facilitation techniques including the use of aquatic therapy to assist in helping clients achieve a change in functional status. This review of the literature examined the impact of aquatic therapy interventions on a variety of disabilities including osteoarthritis, multiple sclerosis, Cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, and mental health from a recreational therapy (RT) perspective. This review provides a variety of information on the positive benefits that may occur using aquatic therapy for diverse conditions. Examples include relaxation, stretching, and aerobic exercise and each has the ability to improve strength. It does appear that aquatic therapy interventions can provide a wide array of benefits that may reduce the burden associated with a variety of disabilities. These benefits may be useful in increasing the overall quality of life of a diverse group of disabilities. Likewise, due to the nature of RT, recreational therapists are in a unique position to provide plan and develop aquatic therapy interventions. However, it is the authors’ suggestion that those providing this service attend intensive training in order to provide aquatic therapy effectively. Additional research may be necessary to provide a more cohesive understanding of the impact of aquatic therapy on a variety of populations. Nonetheless, the information gleamed from this review, justify that aquatic therapy has benefits for a diverse clientele and thus may be useful in the implementation of RT programs.

The experience of the Federal Agency for Railway Transport (Roszheldor) conducting annual training courses for the heads of educational institutions of secondary vocational education and heads of state universities of railways supervising their work, organized by the Training and Methodological Center for Education in Railway Transport, considered. The Internet as a video distribution medium has seen a tremendous growth in recent years. Currently, the transmission of major live events and TV channels over the Internet can easily reach hundreds or millions of users trying to receive the same content using very distinct receiver terminals, placing both scalability and heterogeneity challenges to content and network providers. In private and well-managed Internet Protocol (IP) networks these types of distributions are supported by specially designed architectures, complemented with IP Multicast protocols and Quality of Service (QoS) solutions. However, the Best-Effort and Unicast nature of the Internet requires the introduction of a new set of protocols and related architectures to support the distribution of these contents. In the field of file and non-real time content distributions this has led to the creation and development of several Peer-to-Peer protocols that have experienced great success in recent years. This chapter presents the current research and developments in Peer-to-Peer video streaming over the Internet. A special focus is made on peer protocols, associated architectures and video coding techniques. The authors also review and describe current Peer-to-Peer streaming solutions.

The healthcare sector in the 21st century presents a big technological development. All fields of medicine are deepening their knowledge, which increases the volume of material that must be handled by professionals in each specialty. This large volume of material should be taken into account by health professionals, because it contributes to a better quality of care. The traditional way of teaching has been face-to-face classes; however, with rising technologies, virtual training via computers and virtual teachers are being implemented in some institutions. This change in the way of teaching also leads to changes in how to assess the knowledge gained through this method of learning. The aim of this chapter is to provide a small analysis of online training courses for health professionals, and deepen into an appraisal system developed to integrate different complementary variables, and how they can be implemented as a method addressed to assess online courses in a more comprehensive way.

The free platform Moodle was integrated with protected University Administrative Information System Electronic University (UAIS EU) of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, which serves to support the administrative work for control of educational process. The following main problems were solved: creation of unified data representation in the two systems; creation of students' and training courses' databases in Moodle based on data from UAIS EU. As result unique software was developed, new quality of service was obtained, namely different sides of University activity such as teaching, learning, and administrative control of educational process were automated and joined together; the time required for information processing and administrative decision-making was reduced; the number of errors in the systems due to the influence of a human factor was reduced. The results obtained can be used to simplify the work of teachers and enhance the performance and operational efficiency of the administrative system at any university.
