<p>Rice bran oil distillate is one among the secondary products produced during refining of rice bran oil. Rice bran oil distillate is a source of several micronutrients and natural antioxidants like Gamma-oryzanol, tocopherols etc. The aim of the present study was to separate Gamma-oryzanol from distillate and utilize it as a stabilizer for edible oil. In order to achieve this aim crystallization process was applied to obtain oryzanol rich concentrate. Further purification of oryzanol was achieved through column chromatography. Fractions of Gamma-oryzanol were quantified through HPLC which gives 0.83% yield. Separated Gamma-oryzanol was used to study the stability of pea nut and linseed oil using rancimat. The experiments were carried out in rancimat at varying temperature (110-130 ºC) and concentration (100-300 ppm). Stability of both the oil was found to be directly proportional to the Gamma-oryzanol concentration and inversely proportional to the temperature.</p>

Background and Objectives: For a long time, Asian women have known to use rice water, rice bran for skin care, lightening dark spots and slowing down the aging process. Gamma Oryzanol, an ester mixture of trans-ferulic acid with phytosterols and triterpene alcohols extracted from rice bran oil, has been shown to have beneficial effects on the skin, especially its antioxidant and anti-aging effect. The aims of this research were to formulate Gamma Oryzanol-loaded anti-aging cream and to evaluate the product quality. Materials and Methods: Gamma Oryzanol was imported from Japan. Some formulation parameters such as emulsifi-ers, performance modifiers were investigated and the product quality was evaluated according to the criteria of drugs and cosmetics. Results: The excipients were chosen including 1% (w/w) of Lunamer with 3% (w/w) of Prolipid as emulsifiers and 8% (w/w) of mango seed butter as a state modifier in the formulation of Gamma Oryzanol anti-aging cream. The cream is ivory-white, thick, smooth, fragrant-smelling and satisfied all criteria of developed specification. Conclusion: The study was successful in the preparation of Gamma Oryzanol anti-aging cream. Key words: Gamma Oryzanol, anti-aging cream, Franz cells.

Background: Hypercholesterolemia is a risk factor for developing coronary artery disease. Lifestyle modification including an intake of healthy food as well as medication have approved effect in lowering serum cholesterol. Objective: The primary objective of the present study was to determine the impact of a gamma-oryzanol-enriched rice bran oil, a product of Thailand, on serum cholesterol level. Materials and Methods: A total of in 54 hypercholesterolemic patients were divided into two groups; RBOh (20,000 ppm of gammaoryzanol, n = 27), and RBOn (5,000 ppm gamma-oryzanol, n = 27). The assigned RBO (15 ml) was intake each day for 8 weeks. Fasting serum lipids were measured at baseline and at the 4th and 8th weeks of the intervention. All patients were advised about lifestyle modifications. Results: When compared to the baseline, subjects received RBOh showed a significant difference in 2 parameters including a reduction of cholesterol level at 8th weeks (p-value = 0.0101), and decrease in LDL-C level at the end of 8th weeks (p-value = 0.0013). In the group treated with RBOn, a significant increase in HDL-C level at the end of 8th weeks (p-value = 0.0303) without any effect on total cholesterol or LDL was observed. No sign of toxic effect on liver or renal functions was seen in both treatment groups. Conclusion: RBO with gamma-oryzanol-enriched could decrease cholesterol and LDL-C level in hypercholesterolemic patients. Therefore, gamma-oryzanol-enriched RBO is a functional food that may reduce cardiovascular disease risk factor. Keywords: Hypercholesterolemia, Rice bran oil, Gamma-oryzanol, Oryza sativa

The cracked heel is one of popular problems occurred within thai society. In this study, stick-formed preparation (ST) was developed for portability and convenient to use. The formula contained natural oil, coconut oil (C) or rice bran oil (R), for moisturizing purpose. It was found that 10% R giving a suitable hardness for ST. After addition of 5% salicylic acid (SA) in ST, its hardness was decrease. The modification of formula was performed to obtain a suitable hardness. The ability of moisture retaining (MR) from ST and commercial cream (CO) were evaluated at 32°C for 24 hr with 50% relative humidity, the result was shown that ST giving better MR than CO (P=0.0028). After 4 cycles of freeze-thaw stability study, the ST hardness was not significantly change (P>0.05). However, the amount of SA in ST from dissolution with Paddle over Disc method using acetate buffer pH 5.5 at 32°C was lower than in CO.

Nanoemulsions are well characterized in a promising drug delivery system with applications for drug and cosmetic. Traditionally and cosmetic industries use Rice bran oil and Hesperethusa crenulata or Thanakha bark aqueous extract in sunscreen formulations, anti ageing products and in treatments for skin diseases. The aim of this study was to produce the nanoemulsion and to evaluate their physical stability, irritation potential. In vitro study, the total phenolic contents and total antioxidant capacity of SangYod Rice bran oil (SRBO) were 1130.44 ± 53.55 mg GAE/mg and 25.94±4.69 mmol TEAC/mg and Thanakha were 3.85±0.23 mg GAE/gdw and 19.87 ± 2.59 mmol TEAC/gdw, respectively. The nanoemulsion containing SRBO and Thanakha, oil in water, was produced using low-pressure homogenizer and ultrasonicator techniques and the particle size was 167.03±1.75 nm. The stability of nanoemulsion represented no significant change on pH and particle size after day 0, 5, 11, 14 and over 12 month at temperature 4, 25 and 40 °C. Moreover, it’s also showed no irritation on HET–CAM test, a basic test for embryotoxicity, systemic toxicity and immunopathology. Conclusion, these results suggested that the nanoemulsion containing SRBO and Thanakha may serve as potential vehicles for improved transdermal delivery antioxidant compound and no irritation.
