Object and purpose of research. Electromagnetic forces in thin-walled coils of toroidal type and common type of different cross-sections (circular, rectangular, disk, spherical) are estimated and compared. Materials and methods. Methods of theoretical electric engineering are used. Main results. It is established that forces for toroidal and common coils have different character. First, there is an effect of centripetal compression, secondly, there is an effect of centripetal tensioning. Conclusions. These effects should be taken into account in the coil design, which have to withstand deformation or damage under compressive or tensioning forces.

This paper studies and analyses the behavior of the Long-Range Dependence in network traffic after classifying traffic flows in aggregated time series. Following Differentiated Services architecture principles, the generic Quality of Service applications that requirements and use the transport control protocol, a basic classification criterion of time series is established. Using the fractal theory, the resulting time series are analyzed. The Hurst exponent is estimated and used as a measure of traffic burstiness and Long-Range Dependency in each traffic class. The traffic volume per class is also measured. The study uses traffic traces collected at the core switch at the Electric Engineering Department at Universidad de Santiago de Chile in different periods of network activity.

In this paper, a collocation method based on Hermite polynomials is presented for the numerical solution of the electric circuit equations arising in many branches of sciences and engineering. By using collocation points and Hermite polynomials, electric circuit equations are transformed into a system of linear algebraic equations with unknown Hermite coefficients. These unknown Hermite coefficients have been computed by solving such algebraic equations. To illustrate the accuracy of the proposed method some numerical examples are presented.

The high degree of monopolization of the power complex in the Russian Federation, on the one hand, and state regulation, on the other hand, can cause a decline in the efficiency of entrepreneurial structures’ functioning in electric engineering. From the point of view of theory and methodology the research studies possibilities to shape competitive relations in electric engineering and analyzes regular risks in electric engineering companies’ work. In practical view the lines in raising the efficiency of entrepreneurial structures are investigated. The authors show feasibility of using DEA methods and the standard method for raising the efficiency of electric engineering companies’ work and fixing a grounded tariff on electric power. As a scientific tool for conducting the research the authors chose such general academic and specific methods as the method of system analysis, the method of retrospective analysis, analytical methods of data research. Empiric materials of the research are presented by information of the Federal Service of State Statistics, public data of monitoring the adopted tariff solutions provided by the Federal Antitrust Service.

The impending jeopardies relating to dearth of water in performing the techno economic activity of production of electricity in power industries ushered gainful insights for this research paper for pursuing to reckon and quantify the renewable electric energy consumption of water by gauging at the foot prints. This research paper presses the need of the hour to persistently stimulate the electric generation industries to integrate the multidimensional anomalies of seasonal changes of monsoonal fresh water in the arena of Environmental micro and macro climate strategies. Taking cue of electric energy water sequential linkages using water foot printing technology this paper empirically estimated that, minimum water foot print was recorded in selected biomass and natural gas based electricity producing industries to yield 1000 kilowatt of electricity vis-à-vis selected Hydel power station, which has voracious appetite. This research has been performed with a field level investigation of assessing the magnitude of water scarcity by performing a documentation of exemplary investigative case study approach in selected regions of Andhra Pradesh.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to determine the factors for an academic research project in electrical engineering to become relevant. Design/methodology/approach As a conceptual basis, a few theories of entrepreneurial university and triple helix were correlated, seeking to determine the main critical factors and the successful criteria of an academic research project. The research was conducted through four cases of electric engineering that succeed in generating social and economic impact. Findings When analyzing the available bibliography, it is clear that the connection among the companies, the market and the research that happens at the university is very important. Not only that, but also, according to the results, this is the key to generating revenue and impact on society. In addition, operational policies and competent leaders promoting this impact inside the universities are extremely important. Originality/value The topic was selected because of the reduced number of articles related to the identification and analyses of the main aspects that make an academic research project relevant to the society. Furthermore, the paper is significant because it analyzes the main factors that help develop a better society and country through academic research.
