Time series data are widely found in finance, health, environmental, social, mobile and other fields. A large amount of time series data has been produced due to the general use of smartphones, various sensors, RFID and other internet devices. How a time series is represented is key to the efficient and effective storage and management of time series data, as well as being very important to time series classification. Two new time series representation methods, Hexadecimal Aggregate approXimation (HAX) and Point Aggregate approXimation (PAX), are proposed in this paper. The two methods represent each segment of a time series as a transformable interval object (TIO). Then, each TIO is mapped to a spatial point located on a two-dimensional plane. Finally, the HAX maps each point to a hexadecimal digit so that a time series is converted into a hex string. The experimental results show that HAX has higher classification accuracy than Symbolic Aggregate approXimation (SAX) but a lower one than some SAX variants (SAX-TD, SAX-BD). The HAX has the same space cost as SAX but is lower than these variants. The PAX has higher classification accuracy than HAX and is extremely close to the Euclidean distance (ED) measurement; however, the space cost of PAX is generally much lower than the space cost of ED. HAX and PAX are general representation methods that can also support geoscience time series clustering, indexing and query except for classification.

Abstract ENSO and NINO3.4 index are known to have some relation with Indonesian monthly rainfall anomaly. There is a gap between scientific studies on one hand and forecasting operational problems on the other hand since previous studies are not giving enough attention to the N+1,2,3 concept. The concept is about giving three next month rainfall anomaly prediction rather than connecting ENSO index with three-monthly rainfall anomaly. Here we propose an alternative index for ENSO. The median of categorical gridded rainfall anomaly of East Java is used as a general representation. Plots of correlation between the median and anomaly sea surface temperature from ReynSmithOIv2 are used to determine locus candidate to be compared with NINO3.4. The Near Maritime Continent (NMC) index is selected and proven to have a significant average difference in correlation between based on bootstrap technique. Verification of prediction used in this study is simulation-based and only uses binary hit-miss final result. Prediction is generated by simple linear regression with three lag times (2,3, and 4). Verification based on three categories shows that NMC’s hits are higher than NINO.34 in lag-2 and lag-3. In lag-2, NMC’s verification is 57.5% compared to only 38.7% for NINO3.4. However, NINO3.4 is a still better predictor in lag-4. Radar charts of monthly verifications are also developed.

For proper execution of goal-directed behaviors, individuals require both a general representation of the goal and an ability to monitor their own progress toward that goal. Here, we examine how dorsomedial striatum (DMS), a region pivotal for forming associations among stimuli, actions, and outcomes, encodes the execution of goal-directed action sequences that require self-monitoring of behavior. We trained rats to complete a sequence of at least 5 consecutive lever presses (without visiting the reward port) to obtain a reward and recorded the activity of individual cells in DMS while rats performed the task. We found that the pattern of DMS activity gradually changed during the execution of the sequence, permitting accurate decoding of sequence progress from neural activity at a population level. Moreover, this sequence-related activity was blunted on trials where rats did not complete a sufficient number of presses. Overall, these data suggest a link between DMS activity and the execution of behavioral sequences that require monitoring of ongoing behavior.

We propose the implementation of transfer learning from natural images to audio-based images using self-supervised learning schemes. Through self-supervised learning, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) can learn the general representation of natural images without labels. In this study, a convolutional neural network was pre-trained with natural images (ImageNet) via self-supervised learning; subsequently, it was fine-tuned on the target audio samples. Pre-training with the self-supervised learning scheme significantly improved the sound classification performance when validated on the following benchmarks: ESC-50, UrbanSound8k, and GTZAN. The network pre-trained via self-supervised learning achieved a similar level of accuracy as those pre-trained using a supervised method that require labels. Therefore, we demonstrated that transfer learning from natural images contributes to improvements in audio-related tasks, and self-supervised learning with natural images is adequate for pre-training scheme in terms of simplicity and effectiveness.

Nowadays, various ideologies that are pro and contra to nationalism have begun to grow and develop. This nationalism cannot be separated from faith and religion. This is evidenced by the explanation of several verses of the al-Qur'an explicitly discussing nationalism. This study aims to describe the general representative of nationalism according to Ahmad Musthofa al-Maraghi. In this study, using a qualitative approach with the type of literature review, namely by using a thematic method that is descriptive analysis. In collecting data, this research will rely entirely on the interpretation of al-Maraghi by Ahmad Musthofa Al-Maraghi, as the primary source of books, research journals as secondary sources, which are relevant to this research. The results of this study indicate that the general representation of nationalism according to Ahmad musthafa al-Maraghi in (QS. Al-Anbiya; 92), (QS. Al-A'raf: 160), (QS. Al-Baqarah: 144) is a constructive nationalism. spirit of nationalism by upholding all kinds of regulations for the sake of advancing the nation. There are at least three equal principles so that nationalism does not conflict with the Koran and Islamic syaria. Namely nationalism in the form of unity, the grouping of humans based on descent by maintaining their integrity, as well as love for the homeland

Abstract We study the bilinear and higher-order fermion condensates in 4-dimensional SU(N) gauge theories with a single Dirac fermion in a general representation. Augmented with a mixed anomaly between the 0-form discrete chiral, 1-form center, and 0-form baryon number symmetries (BC anomaly), we sort out theories that admit higher-order condensates and vanishing fermion bilinears. Then, the BC anomaly is utilized to prove, in the absence of a topological quantum field theory, that nonvanishing fermion bilinears are inevitable in infrared-gapped theories with 2-index (anti)symmetric fermions. We also contrast the BC anomaly with the 0-form anomalies and show that it is the former anomaly that determines the infrared physics; we argue that the BC anomaly lurks deep to the infrared while the 0-form anomalies are just variations of local terms. We provide evidence of this assertion by studying the BC anomaly in vector-like theories compactified on a small spacial circle. These theories are weakly-coupled, under analytical control, and they admit a dual description in terms of abelian photons that determine the deep infrared dynamics. We show that the dual photons talk directly to the 1-form center symmetry in order to match the BC anomaly, while the 0-form anomalies are variations of local terms and are matched by fiat. Finally, we study the fate of the BC anomaly in the compactified theories when they are held at a finite temperature. The effective field theory that describes the low-energy physics is 2-dimensional. We show that the BC anomaly cascades from 4 to 2 dimensions.

<p>In this paper, the least-squares solutions to the linear matrix equation $ A^{\ast}XB+B^{\ast}X^{\ast}A = D $ are discussed. By using the canonical correlation decomposition (CCD) of a pair of matrices, the general representation of the least-squares solutions to the matrix equation is derived. Moreover, the expression of the solution to the corresponding weighted optimal approximation problem is obtained.</p>
