Abstract CASE DESCRIPTION A 7-month-old hand-reared female Bennett’s wallaby (Macropus rufogriseus) was evaluated for bilateral ocular opacity of 3 months’ duration. CLINICAL FINDINGS On physical examination, the wallaby was in good overall condition. An ophthalmic examination revealed mature cataracts in both eyes (OU). The cataracts were suspected to have a nutritional origin as it has been described in hand-reared macropods. Results of tonometry were normal OU. Results of CBC and serum biochemistry were unremarkable. The wallaby was premedicated with medetomidine and ketamine hydrochloride. Ocular ultrasonography performed while the wallaby was anesthetized revealed a thickened and opaque lens, mildly heterogeneous vitreous humor, and no sign of retinal detachment OU. An electroretinogram confirmed functional retinae OU. TREATMENT AND OUTCOME Surgery was considered necessary for welfare reasons. Phacoemulsification and vitrectomy were performed without intraoperative complication. The wallaby recovered uneventfully, and systemic NSAID, topical corticosteroid, and systemic and topical antimicrobial therapy were prescribed. One year later, the animal had vision OU. Physical examination did not show any vision-threatening postoperative complications. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The etiology of nutritional cataracts is not fully understood in macropods, but this condition is rather common in these species. To our knowledge, this is the first detailed report of a successful bilateral phacoemulsification and vitrectomy in a Bennett’s wallaby.

This paper seeks to shed more light on calendrical knowledge in the first centuries of the Islamic era in which different administrative traditions fell under the control of a central government. Astronomy as a court-sponsored discipline in the Abbasid dynasty (132-656 AH/750-1258 CE), undertook the pivotal task of identifying and mastering various calendrical disciplines under the reign of the caliphs to make a centralized management feasible. In the first two centuries, the domination of the Arabic lunar calendar, whose significance lies in governing the Islamic yearly festivals and occasions, led to drastic disagreements with the annual planting cycles that were followed by the farmers. Accordingly, the official taxation system faced serious problems. The solution to which was the development of a well-established solar calendar. The large concern of the ninth-century Muslim astronomers for calendrical computations, acknowledges their integral participation in this executive challenge. The present study follows these practices through the lens of a ninth-century Arabic astronomical text, written by Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Kathīr al-Farghānī (Alfraganus in the west), known mainly as the Elements of Astronomy. The careful exploration of this text helps us achieve a broader image of time-keeping accounts in the early Islamic era and the need for calendrical conversions. Moreover, the author’s detailed report of the five existing calendars of the time (Arabic, Syriac, Byzantine, Persian and Egyptian) and their systems of nomenclature, opens an early window to the linguistic investigation of time-reckoning in the Islamic world. Este artículo pretende arrojar luz sobre los conocimientos calendáricos en los primeros siglos de la era islámica, en los que diferentes tradiciones administrativas quedaban bajo el control de un gobierno central. La astronomía, como disciplina patrocinada por la corte en la dinastía abasí (132-656 /750-1258), emprendió la tarea fundamental de identificar y dominar varias disciplinas calendáricas bajo el reinado de los califas para hacer viable una gestión centralizada. En los dos primeros siglos, el dominio del calendario lunar árabe, cuya importancia radica en la regulación de las fiestas y ocasiones anuales islámicas, provocó drásticos desacuerdos con los ciclos anuales de siembra que seguían los agricultores. En consecuencia, el sistema fiscal oficial se enfrentó a graves problemas, cuya solución fue el desarrollo de un calendario solar bien establecido. La gran preocupación de los astrónomos musulmanes del siglo IX por los cómputos calendáricos reconoce su participación integral en este desafío ejecutivo. El presente estudio sigue estas prácticas a través de la atenta lectura de un texto astronómico árabe del siglo IX escrito por Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Kathīr al-Farghānī (Alfraganus en occidente), conocido principalmente como los Elementos de Astronomía. La cuidadosa exploración de este texto nos ayuda a conseguir una imagen más amplia de los relatos sobre el tiempo en la primera época islámica y la necesidad de las conversiones calendáricas. Además, el informe detallado del autor sobre los cinco calendarios existentes en la época (árabe, siríaco, bizantino, persa y egipcio) y sus sistemas de nomenclatura, abre una posibilidad para la investigación lingüística de la relojería en el mundo islámico.

ESKAPE pathogens are the leading cause of nosocomial infections. The Global Priority List of WHO has categorized ESKAPE as priority 1 and 2 pathogens. Even though several mechanisms contribute to antimicrobial resistance, OXA β-lactamase has emerged as a new threat in combating nosocomial infections. In the present study we have investigated the presence of OXA and their variants, copy number, distribution on chromosomes/plasmids, subfamilies, phylogenetic relationships, amino acid identities and variabilities in ESKAPE pathogens. Our results revealed that a total of 929 OXA were present in 2258 completely assembled genomes, which could be further subdivided into 16 sub-families. Among all the ESKAPE pathogens, OXA were highly prevalent in A. baumannii, followed by P. aeruginosa and K. pneumoniae but completely absent in E. faecium and S. aureus while, only a few copies were found in Enterobacter spp. Most of the OXA variants belonged to the OXA-51-like subfamily (200 proteins), followed by OXA-50-like subfamily (189 proteins), OXA-23-like subfamily (156 proteins) and OXA-1-like subfamily (154 proteins). OXA-51-like, OXA-213-like, OXA-134-like, OXA-58-like, OXA-24-like and OXA-20-like subfamilies were present exclusively in A. baumannii. Phylogenetic tree of the subfamilies revealed that OXA-1-like and OXA-33-like, OXA-51-like and OXA-213-like and, OXA-5-like and OXA-10-like belonged to the same branches with amino acid identities as 100%, 97.10% and 80.90% respectively. This indicates that the members of these subfamily-pairs might have evolved from the same ancestor or have recently diverged. Thus, a judicious use of carbapenems is warranted to curtail the rise of new OXA enzymes and preserve them. This is the first detailed report about the OXA of ESKAPE pathogens.

This paper reports the demonstration of design and implementation of narrow band band-stop filters using slotted ground resonators. Using coupled-mode resonator theory, the systematic implementation of BSFs are performed to achieve narrow stopband (<25% FBW) with desired stopband isolation. By exchanging the band-pass transfer function polynomials, the BSF design has become straight-forward with these band-stop resonators. Designed and optimized BSFs are fabricated, characterized and analysed as a detailed report. Slotted ground resonators yield compact and scalable BSFs which are potential alternatives for the development of future microwave systems.

Medicinal plants have curative properties due to the presence of various complex chemical substances of different compositions, which are found as secondary plant metabolites in one or more parts of these plants. Khaya senegalensis (Desr) A Juss is a popular medicinal plant among the Nupes and Yorubas in Nigeria. It belongs to the family Meliaceae (mahogany) and has been reported by several works for its usefulness in the treatment of various diseases. The plant has been studied for its various pharmacological activities like antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, antiprotozoal, anticancer, hypoglycemic, and antiparasitic properties. A scrutiny of the literature reveals some notable pharmacological activities of the plant. The phytochemistry and pharmacology of this plant necessitate a comprehensive review of its prospects as an important therapeutic agent for the management of numerous diseases commonly affecting humans. The present review provides a detailed report of the phytochemical, pharmacological, and toxicological properties carried out on this plant and also throws light on its therapeutic prospects

AbstractOccurrence of stem rust, caused by Puccinia graminis f. sp. avenae, on oat fields in Europe may lead to significant yield losses. The last P. graminis virulence research in this region had been carried out in the years 1988 to 1996, therefore the aim of this study was the update of pathogen’s virulence structure as well as the evaluation of Pg race-specific resistance genes and their potential for use in practical breeding in central and eastern European growing conditions. To assess the pathotype structure of P. graminis in Poland and evaluate the potential of Pg resistance genes, 148 isolates were collected during 2017–2020. Their virulence structure was determined in laboratory conditions on 12 Pg differentials as well as oat lines ‘Pg-a’, ‘Alpha’, ‘Omega’ and ‘Wisconsin X-1588-2’. In total, 57 pathotypes were detected, of which the most dominant race was SSK. High frequency was also recorded for TSK, TKK and TTK. Puccinia graminis isolates were able to overcome from 5 to 11 Pg resistance genes with an average virulence complexity of 8.6. There was no isolate virulent to Pg12, ‘Pg-a’, ‘Alpha’ and ‘Omega’, hence these genes can be used in the breeding programmes. Gene Pg10 was also relatively effective, overcome by 33 out of 148 P. graminis isolates. The virulence profile observed may be representative of eastern Europe and beyond.

The definition of mental disorders describes them as “health conditions involving changes in emotion, thinking or behavior or a combination of these”. Contemporary societies of 2020 still fall short in recognizing some of the most common afflictions as actual problems in people. Some of those are depression, anxiety and stress disorders. This paper proposes a Machine Learning based approach wherein the analysis of the multiple-choice inputs along with a neatly curated questionnaire based on feature extraction will be done and then supervised classification algorithms will be used to generate a mental health score as well as a detailed report based on responses the user gives.
