In The Profession the Bulletin showcases some of the creative ways the study of religion can be put to use in and beyond academia. The Bulletin staff sat down with Mark Eaton, a librarian at The City University of New York (CUNY), which consists of 25 campuses and 31 libraries. Mark Eaton obtained his Bachelor of Arts in religious studies at McGill University before receiving a Master of Information Studies in library studies at the University of Toronto and later, a Master of Arts in religious studies at Queens University. Between his degrees, Eaton worked at the London Metropolitan University Library, at a bakery, and on a farm. Eaton describes how his journey in academia and various professions led him down an unexpected, but fulfilling, path.

All too frequently the standard work on reading disability dismisses the problem of the slow-learning child in a few lines. Few authorities on reading have attempted to trace, systematically, the implications of their reading research for the child of low intelligence. As a teacher of special class children I feel that one is only free to experiment with the practical and social aspects of special education when a systematic programme, adapted to the needs of low intelligence children, has minimised the difficulties of academic instruction.

<div>The term 'Normal School' as currently used in New Zealand and as used in this thesis refers to the school attached to a Teachers' Training College. In many countries the term refers to the Training College itself: as it did also in New Zealand until early this century.</div><div><br></div><div>The term Normal School comes from the German 'Normalschule', which was the name given to the school attached to a teachers' seminary. In some parts of Germany the terms 'Musterschule' and 'Uebungs-schule' later came into use, but in Austria, even today, the primary school attached to a 'Lehrerbildungsanstalt' or Training College is known as 'Normalschule'. The German teacher training institutions, particularly those in Pruasia, served as a model to other countries. But in the 19th century the Prussian influence came via France. A Frenchman, Victor Cousin, had made a detailed survey of 'The State of Public Education in Prussia', and the translation of his report in 1834 greatly influenced teacher training in England and the United States. Cousin, however, used the word 'Ecole Normale' to refer to the German seminary. He had in mind the name given to the short-lived teacher training institution established by the Convention in 1794. That too owed its existence to German influence. But for some reason or other the French applied the German term 'Normalschule' to the Training College itself. One possible explanation is that while there were few students in training , the 'Seminar' and the 'Normalschule' were sometimes combined in one and the same institution which went under the name of ' Normalschule '.</div><div>The current use of the term ' Normal School ' in New Zealand is therefore not as much out of place as is often supposed </div>

<p>To investigate whether the Class Library of the International Institute of Modern Letters was meeting the information needs of the students in the Master of Arts (Creative Writing) an exploratory research approach was used. A sequential mixed methodology study comprised of a questionnaire, with both quantitative and qualitative content, to canvass student responses as well as interviews with the Institute's students, its teaching staff, and the Collection Development Librarian of the Victoria University of Wellington Central Library. The findings showed that students made significant use of the Class Library, often in preference to the University Library. This usage was based on factors such as collection quality, proximity to the Institute, accessibility of the collection and the availability of reading material.   Library anxiety experienced when using the Central Library is another probable factor. Based on these findings, it was recommended that the Institute retain the Class Library as an autonomous collection and not integrate it into the collection of the Victoria University of Wellington Central Library.</p>

This reflection writing was co-written by seven young people and three Master of Arts Child and Youth Care (MA CYC) students from Ryerson University. Our writing centres around a Canadian youth-led initiative called Youth First, developed as a MA CYC placement due to the lack of placement opportunities available during the pandemic. Youth First focused on creating safe and interactive spaces in cyberspace for young people during the pandemic. Through this reflection, we hope to share our experiences, accomplishments, lessons learned and overall reflection of being part of this initiative during a global pandemic.

NUR-IN ISMAEL – ALIH., “PANGONGOLEKTA, PAGSUSURING PANGNILALAMAN AT BALYU ANALISIS NG  MGA SALAWIKAING TAUSUG.” Master of Arts in Language Teaching Filipino, Panggradwadong Paaralan ng Sulu State College, Jolo, Sulu.

This mixed-methods study employed a typological approach and an Expectancy-Value framework to understand nontraditional prospective teachers’ motivational beliefs, teaching motivations, and goals for choosing a teaching career. All participants (N=88) were nontraditional prospective teachers, graduate students enrolled in a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program in the United States. Data were collected in three phases, including quantitative (survey, pre-and posttest assessments), and qualitative (interviews). Analyses revealed three distinct typologies of teachers based on their motivational beliefs, and further differences among the identified groups based on other variables. The qualitative data showed general themes across participants about their teaching efficacy, motivation for teaching and quality of teacher preparation. Implications for teacher education programs are discussed.

The methodology section of thesis manuscripts is one of the important parts that should be well written. From this premise, a genre analysis was conducted to 30 Master of Arts in Language Teaching (MALT-English) research articles of the Graduate School in University of Southern Mindanao (USM). The study aimed to determine the rhetorical move structure and the moves that dominate in the methodology section of the said research articles. Results revealed that the methodology section has 5 moves with corresponding steps. These include Move 1: Introducing the Method chapter; Move 2: Presenting the Design of the Study; Move 3: Describing data collection method; Move 4: Clarifying Data Analysis Procedure; and Move 5. Establishing the ethical considerations and trustworthiness of the study. Obligatory steps identified are  Pointing out the research design used in the study under Move 2,  Presenting the Design of the Study; Describing the locale, participants/respondents and data source/research materials and research instrument/s; and Describing methods and steps in data collection under move 3, data collection method. While the moves are similar in 30 articles, there are steps which are interchanged and are either evident or not evident in some articles. This implied that writers employ varied steps in writing the methodology section even if they are of similar discipline.
