Abstract This study focused on the research of the concept and implementation of eco-friendly design-based products over the years. Pertinent literature was reviewed in order to develop a comprehensive table of the empirical studies that pointed to the numerous findings which are linked to this investigation. The summary from 23 previous studies identified some variables, including design product, concept, and results. From the data, pro-environmental design concepts that were kept hidden in eco-friendly goals were used in various fields such as education, health, and engineering. In addition to the discussion of findings and contributions of the previous research, this study identified the gaps in the featured literature and suggested potential topics for eco-friendly product design research. Thus, this study aimed to provide a brief review of how the variables in this research could encourage the implementation of eco-friendly concepts and practical values.

<p><strong>The aging process brings various consequences in the form of physical, mental, and social problems so that an elderly person experiences limitations. The limitations of the elderly in carrying out their activities, especially in foot movement when walking, therefore a walking aid is needed. Each walking aid has a different function and usage method, one of which is a cane. Canes are often used to help balance, widen the stride and lower the weight on the legs. Safe and comfortable use is essential for the cane to function properly in assisting walking function. Canes still do not have a new design that suits the needs of the elderly. In this study, the development of a cane product for the elderly was carried out which was adapted to the ergonomic aspects and ideal aesthetic aspects. The aim is to provide convenience for the elderly in carrying out activities despite their limitations. Based on the research of the report on product development, namely Tongkat Wusaji using the Garvin Dimension method which is supported by 5 parts, namely performance, durability, features, serviceability, and aesthetics. It was found that the product concept applied to the Wusaji Stick uses aluminum material which has a product resistance of more than 3 years. The Wusaji stick has a minimalist design that is supported by the Bfinders and auto adjustable features and there are ergonomic usage procedures. Tongkat Wusaji has a product selling price of Rp. 250,000.</strong></p><p><strong><em>Keywords:</em> </strong><em>Identify customer needs, Product development, Product specifications, Industrial design</em></p>

This preliminary study examined differences in dietary perceptions and beliefs of a staple food product and a health focused modification of that food product in a focus groups study of native Vietnamese in Vietnam (VNV) and Vietnamese immigrants to the United States (USV).  The concepts investigated were rice product awareness and beliefs, use and preparation of rice, and overall interest in value-added brown rice product concepts incorporating health related language. While white rice was well accepted and daily consumed by both USV and VNV, the brown rice product concept, despite its numerous health benefits, was not readily accepted by Vietnamese consumers, either from US or Vietnam. Both sets of consumers had culturally negative associations of brown rice with poverty, aging, and illness in Vietnam and those perceptions had not changed with immigration. Neither USV nor VNV consumers considered health benefits as key factors for rice consumption, a staple food in all of their diets, a difference from Caucasian US participants studied earlier. Exposure to US culture seemed to have little impact on US-Vietnamese’s rice eating habits. Thus, for a staple food product it appears that it would take time and considerable effort to impact the Vietnamese immigrants’ cultural foodways.

The article describes an industrial cyber-physical platform for small series production using digital twins under development at ITMO University (Saint Petersburg, Russia). The platform is based on the following approaches: group technology, adaptive and selective assembling, and digital twin of production systems and processes. The article presents a mechanism for constructing a unified manufacturing process, and results of an integrated multiscale simulation of an injection moulding process. The issues of ensuring identification and monitoring of objects of the industrial cyber-physical platform are considered. Specific service applications required to implement the smart product concept are discussed. The combination of the considered technologies is used to create digital twins of production system objects. All humans that have different roles in the product value stream can interact with the industrial cyber-physical platform at the three levels, receiving support in performing their tasks. This article is part of the theme issue ‘Towards symbiotic autonomous systems’.
