The purpose of this study is to identify the real issues, causes and investigate the effective actions in helping the subject to move on. The subject experienced changes in behavior, emotions and thoughts after her eldest daughter had a stroke and unable to take care of herself. Now the subject has been abandoned by family members and the community of her residential area. She was considered an insane person as a result of her changes. This is qualitative study using Quranic therapy. Among the Al-Quran therapies that the subject undergoes are zikir munajat, recitation of Surah Yaasin and tahlil arwah. Subjects also read passages from surahs in the Qur'an such as Surah Al Baqarah by talaqi with the researcher. Psychodrama therapy was also administered. Findings showed that subjects acted positively when informed that authorities such as hospitals or the Social Welfare Department will take her to the care center for elderly and separated from being with her children. The subject’s aggressive level is more controlled after practising Quran and zikir munajat. The conclusion of the study found that the subject's level of thinking and emotions can be controlled and helped with appropriate therapy by an experienced therapist. The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spread rapidly worldwide. Nursing home (NH) residents are the most vulnerable high-risk population to infection. Professional registered nurses’ (RNs’) infection control is irreplaceable. We used a secondary data analysis method using the government's senior citizen welfare department large data set about all NHs (N = 3,389) across Korea between January 20 and October 20, 2020. Bed size positively associated with the mortality rate (No. of COVID-19 resident deaths / No. of total residents) ( p  = .048). When the proportion of RNs to total nursing staff was higher, the infection rate was 0.626% lower ( p = .049), the mortality rate was 0.088% lower ( p = .076), the proportion of confirmed COVID-19 cases per resident out of the total number of NHs was 44.472% lower ( p = .041), and the proportion of confirmed COVID-19 deaths per resident out of the total number of NHs was 6.456% lower ( p = .055). This study highlighted nurse staffing criteria and suggests that increasing RNs in NHs will reduce infection and mortality rates during the COVID-19 pandemic. We strongly suggest NHs hire at least one RN per day to properly function, and a minimum of four RNs to provide a fully competent RN workforce in long-term care settings in Korean NHs.

Purpose Theory of mind (ToM) is essential in understanding and predicting human behaviour. Parenting plays a significant role in the overall cognitive development of children. This study aims to understand the development of ToM among children in need of care and protection and then to compare the data with children living under parental care and children living in boarding schools. Further, it explores the extent of physical abuse experienced by children in the study and their relation to the development of ToM. Design/methodology/approach ToM Test developed by Muris et al. (1999) was used to measure ToM. Childhood Experience of Care and Abuse Questionnaire was used to understand the children’s relationship with parents and experience of physical abuse. The study used an ex post facto design with a purposive sampling method. Findings Findings suggest a significant impact of parental care on the ToM among children. Also, the type of care received mediated the relationship between parental care and the development of ToM. Finally, children living in institutions run by the Child Welfare Department reported that they have received harsher physical punishment from their parents than the other two groups of children. Research limitations/implications Findings are a significant theoretical contribution to the ToM development in children, especially in the Indian context. Social implications Findings demand more legal and psychological support to vulnerable children living in institutions run by the Child Welfare Department and boarding schools. Originality/value The study explores care and abuse from the child’s perspective. Findings are of value to the existing child care system in India.

The concentration of homeless ex-prisoners in the capital city raises personal choice factors for them to migrate repeatedly. Kuala Lumpur is the chosen destination for migration for ex-prisoners after their release from prison. The lack of  place to go makes Kuala Lumpur a destination of choice despite living as a homeless person. This qualitative study uses a phenomenological approach involving 15 homeless ex-prisoners to explore the personal factors that led them to choose Kuala Lumpur and resigned to living on the streets. The personal factors identified were self-choice, finding job, having friends, easy access to food, migrating, and being familiar with Kuala Lumpur. The study's findings have confirmed the migration factors brought about by the Migration Theory by Everett S. Lee. This study recommends that the social services and welfare agencies involved, such as the Social Welfare Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and the Prisons Department, to implement more comprehensive and consistent interventions towards assisting homeless ex-prisoners via necessary services, welfare, and appropriate social support.

The Productive Welfare Approach and the "2-Year Exit Policy" (2YEP) are introduced by the Department of Social Welfare Malaysia (JKM) to help recipients of welfare assistance (clients) towards living independently and provide the ability to survive without relying on indefinite assistance. This study aims to identify the empowerment of recipients after being involved in entrepreneurship programs through the Launching Grant provided by JKM. This study employs the survey method using questionnaires. A total of 234 respondents were involved in the study: 107 respondents from the Northern Zone, and a total of 127 respondents from the Eastern Zone from 17 Social Welfare District Offices (PKMD) in both zones. The data collection was done between September 2016 to February 2017. The results show that the majority of respondents are self-employed/sole proprietors (85%) with many involved in the food and beverage-type business (58.1%). In terms of self-enrichment/empowerment, respondents' levels are at moderate to high levels. They are responsible for the work, for what they do, and for the results of their actions. The Productive Welfare Approach and the 2YEP program have to some extent, helped in increasing revenue and reducing clients’ dependency on JKM’s assistance. However, better implementation of the program and continuous monitoring can help clients increase their motivation and thus, contribute to eradicating poverty among receivers of assistance.

The tribes in India usually depend on collection and sale of agricultural and forests products for their need and source of income especially for those residing close to and in the forest fringe villages. Hence, this study was conducted to document the forest products collected by the people with the aim of contributing knowledge that could help increase the business potential of these forest products. The study employed simple random sampling technique for selection of sixty (60) respondents from the three tribal groups of Koya, Kondareddie and Lambada. Primary data were collected from 20 tribals from each tribal group and the secondary data was collected from sources like Tribal Welfare department, websites, journals, research papers, tribal stores records and books. The result revealed that majority of the forest products were collected by Koya and Kondareddie tribal groups. The products include amla, bamboo, honey, mahua flowers, tamarind and tendu leaves. These groups are also involved in making of bamboo baskets. On the other hand, Amla, tamarind and honey were collected by Lambada group as they are seen to be shifting towards other occupations.  From the 216 family members of 60 tribal respondents, about 91 members were involved in collection of forest products. Majority (53%) of the people spend 50 - 100 days in collecting forest produce and around 42% spent 5-8 hours per day. In addition, about 28% each spent 1 - 4 hours and 9 - 12 hours for collection of forest produce in a day. The study also found that all the collected forest products by the tribals in the study area can be further processed to add value and enhance price. The price difference in raw and value added products ranged from 30%to as high as 1593%.
