PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to directly link information technology (IT) education with real-world phenomena.Design/methodology/approachThe selected objectives are achieved by modeling line of sight (LOS) and nonline of sight (NLOS) mobile channels using corresponding distributions. Within the described experiments, students verify whether modeled generators generate random variables accordingly to the selected distribution. The results of observations are directly compared with theoretical expectations. The methodology was evaluated by students via questionnaires.FindingsThe results show that the proposed methodology can help graduate or undergraduate students better comprehend lectured material from mobile communications or mathematical statistics.Originality/valueThe hands on experience using the EMONA system make the approach original.

This paper investigates the current state and prospects of the development of the European IT services market. A detailed analysis of the economic indicators of the IT market in European countries has been conducted. Marketing characteristics of the external market of IT services were considered, in whose formation a leading role belongs to export deliveries. It has been determined that the capacity of the international segment of the IT services market in most European countries increases by an average of 20 % annually, and the share of IT technologies exports in the overall export structure exceeds 8 %. The forecast of changes in the internal market of IT technologies in the post-Soviet countries was analyzed. Based on the results, it was concluded that in the future the capacity of the domestic IT services market could increase and, in 2024, in particular in Ukraine, would exceed the volume of USD 2 billion. The results of studying the level of prices for IT services in the post-Soviet countries suggest that they mainly correspond to the prices for similar services in different groups of European countries (with different material capabilities). That means that for IT service consumers in countries with a low standard of living, price characteristics are not an obstacle to obtaining the highest quality services from domestic or foreign suppliers. The role and importance of personnel support of the information industry, which is key in the formation and development of the IT services market, have been determined. It has been proven that specialists who attained IT education mostly work according to the skills and competencies obtained, which distinguishes them favorably from specialists in other fields. Despite the tendencies of a certain outflow of specialists outside the countries with a low living level, the number of IT specialists is growing progressively in their economies. In many ways, these trends are facilitated by an increase in the number of graduates from specialized educational institutions.

Based on CHEd Memorandum Order No. 79, series of 2017, the Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) Major in Computer Hardware Servicing program is designed to enhance the knowledge, desirable values and skills of computer service technicians in accordance with industry standards. This mixed design research sought to determine the feasibility of offering this program in Sorsogon State University - Bulan Campus (SorSU-BC). It was found that the offering of the program is highly necessary and can expect a moderate sufficiency of enrolees. The program will also provide significant benefits to the different domains of the society such as the government, the community, the business industries and the students. The offering of the program is also highly sustainable in terms of enrolment, faculty, competition and facilities. It is also consistent with the vision and mission of the university and adheres to the pertinent legal foundations. Generally, faculty requirements are complied with but there is a need to hire faculty members with master’s degree in technology education or its equivalent. The laboratories and physical facilities required for the offering of the program are already available considering the existence of the IT-education and teacher-education programs. Therefore, the offering of BTVTEd major in Computer Hardware Servicing is found to be feasible. It is recommended for SorSU Bulan Campus to craft a program curriculum for BTVTEd Computer Hardware Servicing so that it can be offered in the university with the approval of the Commission on Higher Education.

The surge of information in the digital age has impacted social problems. Accordingly, digital citizenship had been discussed mostly within topics related to digital security, IT education. A systematic review is needed to provide an overview for educators and policymakers in Indonesia to address ethical and technical issues to improve the online environment safely. However, there are limited studies that systematically review the existing literature on implementing digital citizenship in Indonesia. The present study was guided by PRISMA review protocol using three databases, i.e., Scopus, Google Scholars, and ProQuest, concerned with digital citizenship, digital competence, digital literacy, and information and communications technology (ICT) skills. There were 205 articles screened; this study obtained 20 articles that fit the predetermined inclusion criteria. This study used content analysis to encode, organize categories, and develop the themes. Based on the thematic analysis, this study has three main themes namely digital readiness, digital citizenship competencies, and educational policies. This review contributes to the existing literature by providing direction to future study and embedded digital citizenship competencies in the educational setting as a catalyst for a new literacy.

Purpose: Blood Flow Restriction Therapy (BFRT) is a rehabilitation technique that seems to elicit hypertrophy gains similar to heavy resistance training. Despite increased popularity of BFRT, the extent it is used in physical therapy (PT) is unknown. The purpose of the study was to examine the knowledge, and utilization, of BFRT by practicing Physical Therapists (PTs). Methods: PTs were recruited to complete an online survey on their knowledge and use of BFRT. Results: From 159 participants, it was found that 88.1% (n=140) of participating PTs had heard of BFRT, with age and gender disparities, though only 38.6% (n=54) reported using BFRT on a patient. There was a significant difference between male and female PTs knowledge (98% vs 81%, p < 0.001) and use (48% vs 24%, p = 0.016) of BFRT. 98% of PTs who reported using BFRT indicated it was beneficial or very beneficial for their patients. Conclusions: There were apparent gaps between PTs knowledge of BFRT and inclusion in practice, though most of these clinicians would be open to consider use of BFRT. Nearly all BFRT practitioners believed it was efficacious and will continue using it. Education and training of PTs could improve utilization of BFRT and, perhaps, ultimately clinical outcomes.

Introduction. The formation of professional self-determination of high school students and the associated choice of vocational education is an urgent problem of the modern school. This paper examines the possibility of pedagogical support to solve this problem by the example of the formation of ideas about IT education and IT professions at a level sufficient for their conscious choice in Russia. The tools discussed are the school Computer Science course and, more broadly, teacher-led non-formal education in the field of computing. The aim of this article was to analyse the factors affecting the conscious choice of high school graduates of IT professions and types of professional IT education, and the possibilities of pedagogical support for the formation of this choice by means of informatics education, implemented by means of a modern information and educational environment.Methodology, methods and materials. A systematic approach was applied, i.e. not only school but also subsequent stages of professional development of students were analysed. The leading theoretical methods were the analysis of the knowledge system, generalisation, identification and resolution of contradictions in the process of self-determination of students in the IT profession. Empirical methods for collecting, analysing and interpreting empirical data were also employed. The analysis of academic publications, documents and statistical data was carried out.Results. It is shown that the main reasons for the low level of formation of the professional self-determination of high school students in the IT profession are the following factors: insufficient attention paid in the school Computer Science course to the technological aspects that underlie most of the IT professions; lack of awareness of labour functions in IT professions; lack of awareness of the content of training in various areas of higher IT education and the focus of these areas on specific IT professions; ignorance of the real demand for the country’s economy in various IT professions. The school course in Computer Science can become a system-forming beginning in the formation of professional self-determination of high school students in the IT profession, but in its current state, it does not fully fulfill this function. The reasons are the inability to provide everyone, who wants to study Computer Science in high school at an in-depth level, the neglect in this course of the technological aspects of computing that underlie most of the IT professions, and insufficient use of the information resources of the information and educational environment of modern non-formal education. One of the ways to solve this problem is to supplement the Computer Science course with a special pre-professional training module, which will purposefully acquaint students with IT professions, with information technologies that underlie these professions, as well as the types and the content of the most popular areas of professional IT education and their connections with IT professions. To implement such a module, in addition to traditional forms of education, distance and network learning can be used, including with the involvement of university teachers and employees of leading IT companies.Scientific novelty. For the first time, the problem of pedagogical support for the formation of professional self-determination of senior high school students in the IT profession has been investigated.Practical significance. The obtained results can become the basis for improving school informatics education for the full fulfillment of the task to develop the professional self-determination of students in the IT profession.
