The study investigates how the territorial community can influence the individual and social well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) youth and especially the recognition of their feelings and the construction of their own identity as well as their needs to be socially recognized. This research focuses on the experiences of 30 LGB individuals (23 males and 7 females), with a mean age of 25.07 years (SD = 4,578), living in urban and rural areas of Southern Italy. Focalized open interviews were conducted, and the Grounded Theory Methodology, supported by the Atlas.ti 8.0 software, was used for data analysis. The textual material was first coded, and then codes were grouped into five macro-categories: Freedom of identity expression in the urban and rural context, identity construction and acceptance process, need of aggregation and identification with the LGB community, role of the interpersonal relationship in the process of identity acceptance, socio-cultural context, and LGB psychological well-being. The results showed a condition common to the two contexts that we can define as “ghettoization.” The young LGB is alone in the rural area due to a lack of places and people to identify with and greater social isolation. On the contrary, although there are more opportunities in the urban area, young people feel stigmatized and ghettoized because “their places” are frequented exclusively by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, queer (LGBTQ) community. The work will extensively discuss the limitations of the research, future proposals, and the practical implications of the results.

This research aims to briefly present the methodological items used to develop a model for evaluating the quality of services provided by higher education institutions, called PHERFFO (Performance Higher Education Poffo), which is a continuation of Poffo's research and Verdinelli (2017).  In this sense, for the construction and validation of the model for evaluating the quality of educational services, we sought, firstly, to draw up a literature review based on theories already validated by several authors, such as Parasuraman, Berry and Zeithaml (1985, 1988), Cronin and Taylor (1992), Abdullah (2006), Anil and Icli (2014), Dias Sobrinho (2010) and the MEC/INEP assessment instruments, among other studies. As a result, a model was proposed that is divided into nine dimensions: Marketing Reputation, Security, Administrative Service, Interpersonal Relationship, Infrastructure, Career Opportunity, Educational Aspects, Academic Aspects and Social Transformation. It is concluded that drawing a reliable panorama, through an evaluation model of the quality of the service delivered, is the first step to deepen the discussions about the quality of Brazilian Higher Education.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate whether leader-follower similarity in construal level of the work, which indicates the degree of abstraction applied to mental representation of the work, influences the quality of interpersonal relationship at work.Design/methodology/approachFirst, an interview study was conducted to adapt the work-based construal-level (WBCL) scale. Then, a survey study was conducted for hypothesis testing. Data collected from 245 matched supervisor-subordinate dyads were analyzed using multi-level modeling.FindingsResults revealed that dyadic similarity in work-domain construal level is positively related to leader-member exchange (LMX) quality. As a leader and a follower become similar to each other in terms of mental representation (i.e. construal level) of work, they experience higher relationship quality.Originality/valueThis study enhances the current knowledge of the role of cognition and cognitive similarity in leadership processes.

This chapter discusses the origins of the various models used as a basis for health communication through a literature review. Models seek to represent reality and are dynamic constructs that evolve as the world's own needs and discoveries are made. Particularly in health, a territory for a long time dominated by the biomedical model and a passive view of its recipients, the models have brought a breath of fresh air to the true human dimension. Among the various models that have been defended based on a biopsychosocial perspective, the cognitive, behavioral, emotional components of the human being are reflected, as well as their context and environment in which they move, namely the social, economic, cultural, political, and other dimensions. It is also the determinants of health that influence the whole and that make the interpersonal relationship in health richer and representative of the complex human dimension seen in a holistic way.

Prosocial behavior has been regarded as a necessity for a society to function well. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between emotional competence, interpersonal relationship, and prosocial behavior among 496 school-going adolescents in Malaysia. The subjects were selected using Multistage Cluster Sampling method. Profile of Emotional Competence, Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment Scale, and Strength and Difficulties Questionnaires were used to measure emotional competence, interpersonal relationship with peers, and adolescents’ prosocial behavior respectively. The results showed significant positive relationships among emotional competence, interpersonal relationship with peers, and prosocial behavior. Further analysis revealed that adolescents who reported having higher emotional competence tend to have better interpersonal relationships with peers which in turn led to higher involvement in prosocial behavior. Emotional competence and interpersonal relationship with peers are thus established as two important factors to promote prosocial behavior among adolescents.
