In the western Cameroon, crop out several dyke swarms of Paleozoic–Mesozoic age. These dykes intrude the Precambrian basement in the southern continental part of the Cretaceous Cameroon Volcanic Line. In the Njimom area, two groups of mafic dykes that crosscut the Neoproterozoic basement rocks have been observed. A first group intrudes the mylonites whereas the second group intrudes the granites. The dykes are alkaline basalts and hawaiites. The mineralogical assemblage of both groups of dykes consists of plagioclase, clinopyroxene, altered olivine, and opaque oxides. The dykes that cross-cut the Precambrian mylonitic gneisses show moderate TiO2 (1.7–2.0 wt.%), low MgO (4.4–7.1 wt.%), and compatible trace element concentrations (e.g., Cr = 70–180 ppm; Ni = 30–110 ppm). The dykes that intrude the granites have TiO2 contents between 2.3 and 2.5 wt.% and moderate compatible trace element concentrations (e.g., Cr = 260–280 ppm; Ni = 170–230 ppm). MgO varies from 5.9 to 9.2 wt.%. All mafic dykes are enriched in light lanthanide element and show moderate Zr/Nb and high Zr/Y, Nb/Yb, and Ti/V ratios similar to those of average ocean island basalt (OIB)-type magmas. Some dykes that intrude the mylonites show evidence of contamination by continental crust. The composition of the clinopyroxenes of the dykes that intrude the mylonites clearly indicate different and unrelated parental magmas from dykes that intrude the granites. Contents and fractionation of the least and the most incompatible elements suggest low degrees of partial melting (3–5%) of heterogeneous source slightly enriched in incompatible elements in the spinel stability field. The geochemical features of Njimom dykes (in particular the dykes that intrude the granites) are similar to those of Paleozoic and Mesozoic dykes recorded in the southern continental part of the Cameroon Volcanic Line, suggesting multiple reactivations of pre-existing fractures that resulted in the fragmentation of western Gondwana and the opening of the South Atlantic Ocean.

Andean maize can be safely used in gluten-free bread formulation. Extrusion is a technology capable of promoting changes in the techno-functional properties of gluten-free flours, modifying their breadmaking properties. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of extrusion on the physical and physicochemical properties of Andean maize whole-grain flours (bolita race) and to determine the relationship between the changes to the textural properties of gluten-free dough and bread with the addition of extruded flours. The Andean maize whole-grain flours were extruded in a single-screw extruder. The moisture, temperature and screw speed were varied through an incomplete orthogonal design. The expansion degree of extruded products, the total soluble carbohydrates, and the gelatinization degree of the flours varied mainly with moisture and temperature extrusion. Flours with high, medium, and low degrees of gelatinization treatments were added at 20 % to native flours to make gluten-free dough and bread. The dough made with the addition of extruded flours increased their firmness and adhesiveness in relation to the control made with native flour alone. Bread made with extruded flours generally increased their hardness, gumminess, chewiness, and cohesiveness. Springiness only increased under conditions of high and low degrees of gelatinization. The dough made with extruded flour at the extruded condition of 100 °C-25%H-120 rpm, with the lowest degree of gelatinization, were the least firm and adhesive, which could lead to better dough machinability. Additionally, the bread made with this flour presented high cohesiveness and springiness.

Abstract Built on the exclusive funding of 1,000 large transnational corporations, the World Economic Forum is a not-for-profit Swiss foundation, aiming to shape the direction of globalization. Its events are characterized by low degrees of formality and transparency. Research on what this organization does is scarce. This article suggests the term discretionary governance to capture the precarious, yet existing, social order that the organization shapes. By discretionary governance, we mean a set of discreet practices based on the organization’s judgement in ways that escape established democratic controls. Drawing on ethnographic data the paper demonstrates how selection, secrecy, and status form key components of this tenuous ordering. Selection processes and secrecy contribute to status elevation of the individuals and organizations chosen to participate. Upon them and the organization itself is bestowed a symbolic capital that is practical and possibly profitable in the world of global governance.

Background: There has been growing hope for initiatives supporting the transition of persons with disabilities from employment-related welfare services to employees in companies. This is against the backdrop of a significant increase in employment among persons with disabilities in Japan. Objective: To improve the quality of this transition, this study examined the relationship between the collaboration of the Work Support Centers for Continuous Employment Type B (WSC-B) with vocational rehabilitation organizations (VROs) and knowledge and skills related to employment support. Methods: A survey including all 122 WSC-B in L-Prefecture was conducted by postal mail. The respondents were asked to rate items on the following six levels concerning collaboration with VROs and understanding of VROs. We used the Japanese version of the Self-Assessment for Students or Counselors (SASC-J) to assess knowledge and skills related to work support. Results: The t-test conducted on knowledge and skills status between WSC-B with a high degree of cooperation with VROs and those with low degrees confirmed significant differences among the various subsystems in VROs. Conclusion: Based on our results, we suggest that maximizing the use of collaboration in work support will enhance the support provided by WSC-B and promote transition support for people with disabilities.

Abstract Background We aim to further develop an index for detecting disguised paternalism, which might influence physicians’ evaluations of whether or not a patient is decision-competent at the end of life. Disguised paternalism can be actualized when physicians transform hard paternalism into soft paternalism by questioning the patient’s decision-making competence. Methods A previously presented index, based on a cross-sectional study, was further developed to make it possible to distinguish between high and low degrees of disguised paternalism using the average index of the whole sample. We recalculated the results from a 2007 study for comparison to a new study conducted in 2020. Both studies are about physicians’ attitudes towards, and arguments for or against, physician-assisted suicide. Results The 2020 study showed that geriatricians, palliativists, and middle-aged physicians (46–60 years old) had indices indicating disguised paternalism, in contrast with the results from the 2007 study, which showed that all specialties (apart from GPs and surgeons) had indices indicating high degrees of disguised paternalism. Conclusions The proposed index for identifying disguised paternalism reflects the attitude of a group towards physician assisted suicide. The indices make it possible to compare the various medical specialties and age groups from the 2007 study with the 2020 study. Because disguised paternalism might have clinical consequences for the rights of competent patients to participate in decision-making, it is important to reveal disguised hard paternalism, which could masquerade as soft paternalism and thereby manifest in practice. Methods for improving measures of disguised paternalism are worthy of further development.

AbstractFeature of turbulent flow anisotropy behavior behind an asymmetric NACA 64-618 airfoil investigated in this paper. Experimental studies were performed using a hot-wire anemometery with X-probe at the chord-based Reynolds number $$1.7 \times 10^5$$ 1.7 × 10 5 . The average ensemble velocity and Reynolds stress components are used to determine the wake topology and anisotropy of turbulence. The obtained data allowed to identify the outside wake region, which is characterized by low instability and a high degree of anisotropy of the turbulent flow. This tendency is observed at different angles incident. Further, to gain better insight into the physics of this phenomenon the structure of turbulence have been evaluated. Integral turbulence length and time scales were estimated by the area of the autocorrelation function of velocity fluctuations. Then, using the second-order structural function, we obtained the dissipation characteristics of the flow. In addition, the features of the energy spectrum in the region with high and low degrees of turbulence anisotropy were analyzed.

Aiming at low degrees of freedom (DOF) and high mutual coupling (MC) of the existing sparse arrays, an enhanced generalized nested array (EGNA) is proposed in this paper. Specifically, the proposed array adds a single antenna on the basis of generalized nested array (GNA), and the difference of coprime factors is employed as the spacing between the second subarray and the additional antenna. Then, the values of the coprime factors are analyzed in detail, which indicates that Yang-NA can be explained as a special case. Compared with the majority of the existing sparse arrays, EGNA not only has the closed-form expressions of the physical antenna locations, consecutive lags, and unique lags, but also significantly increases DOF and reduces MC. In view of the above advantages, EGNA can obtain superior performance in direction of arrival (DOA) estimation. Numerical simulation results verify the rationality and superiority of the proposed nested array.

Objective: Evaluate the antioxidant activity of protein fractions obtained from (bovine serum albumin) BSA protein hydrolysates. Design / methodology / approach: Bioinformatics tools, such as the NCBI database, were used to search for primary sequences of BSA proteins. The methodology included a prediction of peptides with antioxidant activity through various bioinformatics servers. The antioxidant activity was determined by different methods. Statistical analysis was performed to evaluate possible significant differences using the Student Newman Keulls test for group comparison. Results: Through in silica hydrolysis the following peptides were found: valine-alanine-phenylalanine (VAF), lysine-tryptophan (KW), phenylalanine-tyrosine (FY), alanine-proline (AP), among others that may have antioxidant activity. The results showed that the fraction <1 kDa hydrolyzed with chymotrypsin, this fraction showed 84% copper chelation, 61% iron chelation, while 75% inhibition of the DPPH radical. In the case of the fraction <1 kDa hydrolyzed with pepsin, it only showed 16% iron chelation, while in the other methods no value was detected. Study limitations / implications: The enzyme used for enzymatic hydrolysis generates low degrees of hydrolysis and generates oligopeptide dipeptides that may not be as like some of the tested methods, in addition to the protein concentration in the fraction <1 kDa with pepsin it had very low values that could not be detected by some antioxidant methods. Findings / conclusions: The antioxidant activity of the <1 kDa fraction obtained with chymotrypsin showed greater antioxidant and chelating activity, compared to the <1 kDa fraction obtained with pepsin. However, at the concentration of 2% and 5% fluctuations are observed in both fractions, because probably the composition of amino acids that is present in both fractions determines the activity in each of the tested methods

We investigate how low degrees of Br − / S 2 − site-exchange influence the Li + diffusion in the argyrodite-type solid electrolyte Li 6 PS 5 Br by ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. Based on the atomic trajectories of the defect-free material, a new mechanism for the internal Li + reorganization within the Li + cages around the 4 d sites is identified. This reorganization mechanism is highly concerted and cannot be described by just one rotation axis. Simulations with Br − / S 2 − defects reveal that Li + interstitials ( L ii . ) are the dominant mobile charge carriers and originate from Frenkel pairs. These are formed because B rS . defects on the 4 d sites donate one or even two L ii . to the neighbouring cages. The L ii . then carry out intercage jumps via interstitial and interstitialcy mechanisms. With that, one single B rS . defect enables Li + diffusion over an extended spatial area explaining why low degrees of site-exchange are sufficient to trigger superionic conduction. The vacant sites of the Frenkel pairs, namely V Li   ′ , are mostly immobile and bound to the B rS . defect. Because S Br ′ defects on 4 a sites act as sinks for L ii . they seem to be beneficial only for the local Li + transport. In their vicinity T4 tetrahedral sites start to get occupied. Because the Li + transport was found to be rather confined if S Br ′ and B rS . defects are direct neighbours, their relative arrangement seems to be crucial for effective long-range transport. This article is part of the Theo Murphy meeting issue ‘Understanding fast-ion conduction in solid electrolytes’.

Abstract The Kerguelen large igneous province (LIP) has been related to mantle plume activity since at least 120 Ma. There are some older (147–130 Ma) magmatic provinces on circum-eastern Gondwana, but the relationship between these provinces and the Kerguelen mantle plume remains controversial. Here we present petrological, geochronological, geochemical, and Sr–Nd–Hf–Pb–Os isotopic data for high-Ti mafic rocks from two localities (Cuona and Jiangzi) in the eastern Tethyan Himalaya igneous province (147–130 Ma). Zircon grains from these two localities yielded concordant weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 137.25 ± 0.98 and 131.28 ± 0.78 Ma (2σ), respectively. The analyzed mafic rocks are enriched in high field strength elements and have positive Nb–Ta anomalies relative to Th and La, which have ocean island basalt-like characteristics. The Cuona basalts were generated by low degrees of melting (3–5%) of garnet lherzolites (3–5 vol.% garnet), and elsewhere the Jiangzi diabases were formed by relatively lower degrees of melting (1–3%) of garnet lherzolite (1–5 vol.% garnet). The highly radiogenic Os and Pb isotopic compositions of the Jiangzi diabases were produced by crustal contamination, but the Cuona basalts experienced the least crustal contamination given their relatively low γOs(t), 206Pb/204Pbi, 207Pb/204Pbi, and 208Pb/204Pbi values. Major and trace element geochemical and Sr–Nd–Hf–Pb–Os isotope data for the Cuona basalts are similar to products of the Kerguelen mantle plume head. Together with high mantle potential temperatures (>1500°C), this suggests that the eastern Tethyan Himalaya igneous province (147–130 Ma) was an early magmatic product of the Kerguelen plume. A mantle plume initiation model can explain the temporal and spatial evolution of the Kerguelen LIP, and pre-continental break-up played a role in the breakup of eastern Gondwana, given the >10 Myr between initial mantle plume activity (147–130 Ma) and continental break-up (132–130 Ma). Like studies of Re-Os isotopes in other LIPs, the increasing amount of crustal assimilation with distance from the plume stem can explain the variations in radiogenic Os.
