This study aims to support student’s understanding of the properties of a bisector related to the area of the triangle. A context and a set of activities is design based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) theory to develop students’ understanding and to engage them in meaningful activities. Design research is chosen as the research approach with two cycles of experiment. A context of land subdivision problem was selected to activate students’ prior knowledge and to bring them into the activities. At First, the activities is presented in small group of mathematics students and in the regional mathematics competition as one of the final question for the finalists. Then, the second cycle is conducted in the classroom with students from mathematics education program in Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. The result showed that none of the students and finalists in the competition were able to solve the question because they do not have idea how to do land subdivision. They cannot use their prior knowledge of bisector to solve the problem. After revising the activities, in the classroom, all groups in the class were able to solve the problem. These activities are land subdivision with three different levels of difficulties and purposes.

Intersection and union concepts are crucial part of operation in sets, especially in solving word problems and creating the venn diagram. In fact, not a few students do fallacies in representing sets word problems into a sets operation, so they do mistakes in solving the problems. This study aims to investigate students’ thinking in learning intersection and union concept, specifically by using colored cards. The learning is designed under Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach and the principle used is emergent modeling. The method used in this study is design research. The subjects of this study is 25 students of the 7th grade junior high school, in which five of them were the focused group. The main findings in this study are description of students’ thinking while learning union and intersection using colored cards in the class, and any kinds of students’ ‘diagram venn’models. Keywords: design research, intersection, realistic mathematics education, union, venn diagram

One characteristic of typical mathematical problem is that it requires bunch of relevant prior knowledge. This knowledge is built consecutively and is recalled whenever needed to promote student to solve the problem. The process undertaken by the solver to utilize existing relevant prior knowledge while solving the problem is called access. However, this access is possible subject to disturbance for some reasons. This literature study addresses some factors that can distract access: factor related to metaprocess and factor related to deficit structure. The variants included in both factors have been proved through research as the contributors of the accessibility of relevant prior knowledge. Knowledge that cannot be accessed is called inert knowledge, the main reason for why solver face the difficulty to find the answer to given mathematical problem. The explanation leads to the suggestion of how to tackle the inertia of particular knowledge. One of them are through the instruction setting. Realistic Mathematics Education as one of approaches in learning can be a possible alternative for the issue of inert knowledge. Keywords. Geometry is an essential subject for students. However, geometry, especially the cone, remains a challenging material for students. Besides, we need the proper media and context for learning mathematics on cone material. This research aims to develop a learning trajectory that utilizes the Megono Gunungan tradition as a context in the learning process using the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI) approach. The research method used is Design Research, which consists of three phases of the study: preliminary design, experimental design, and retrospective study. This study's outcome is designing a learning trajectory on cone material using the Megono Gunungan tradition. This learning trajectory comprises four activities, including observing the interactive video of the Megono Gunungan tradition to discover cone elements, finding the concept surface area of a cone using origami paper, and grasping the cone concept volume with magic seeds, and solving contextual problems related to the cone. Studies have shown that using the Megono Gunungan context could help students improve their understanding of the cone concept. Furthermore, this study hoped could be an inspiration for exploring another local wisdom that can be a context in learning mathematics.
