Abstract Nonlinear phenomena of the planar and quasi-planar magnetoacoustic waves are considered. We focus on deriving of equations which govern nonlinear excitation of the non-wave motions by the intense sound in initially static gaseous plasma. The plasma is treated as an ideal gas with finite electrical conductivity permeated by a magnetic field orthogonal to the trajectories of gas particles. This introduces dispersion of a flow. Magnetoacoustic heating and streaming in the field of periodic and aperiodic magnetoacoustic perturbations are discussed, as well as generation of the magnetic perturbations by sound. Two cases, corresponding to magnetosound perturbations of low and high frequencies, are considered in detail.

The nonlinear phenomena which associate with magnetoacoustic waves in a plasma are analytically studied. A plasma is an open system with external inflow of energy and radiation losses. A plasma’s flow may be isentropically stable or unstable. The nonlinear phenomena occur differently in dependence on stability or instability of a plasma’s flow. The nonlinear instantaneous equation which describes dynamics of nonwave entropy mode in the field of intense magnetoacoustic perturbations is the result of special projecting of the conservation equations in the differential form. It is analyzed in some physically meaningful cases; those are periodic magnetoacoustic perturbations and particular cases of heating-cooling function. A plasma is situated in the straight magnetic field with constant equilibrium magnetic strength which form constant angle with the direction of wave propagation. A plasma is initially uniform and equilibrium. The conclusions concern nonlinear effects of fast and slow magnetoacoustic perturbations and may be useful in direct and inverse problems.

Abstract The approximate analytical solution for the propagation of gas ionizing cylindrical blast (shock) wave in a rotational axisymmetric non-ideal gas with azimuthal or axial magnetic field is investigated. The axial and azimuthal components of fluid velocity are taken into consideration and these flow variables, magnetic field in the ambient medium are assumed to be varying according to the power laws with distance from the axis of symmetry. The shock is supposed to be strong one for the ratio C 0 V s 2 ${\left(\frac{{C}_{0}}{{V}_{s}}\right)}^{2}$ to be a negligible small quantity, where C 0 is the sound velocity in undisturbed fluid and V S is the shock velocity. In the undisturbed medium the density is assumed to be constant to obtain the similarity solution. The flow variables in power series of C 0 V s 2 ${\left(\frac{{C}_{0}}{{V}_{s}}\right)}^{2}$ are expanded to obtain the approximate analytical solutions. The first order and second order approximations to the solutions are discussed with the help of power series expansion. For the first order approximation the analytical solutions are derived. In the flow-field region behind the blast wave the distribution of the flow variables in the case of first order approximation is shown in graphs. It is observed that in the flow field region the quantity J 0 increases with an increase in the value of gas non-idealness parameter or Alfven-Mach number or rotational parameter. Hence, the non-idealness of the gas and the presence of rotation or magnetic field have decaying effect on shock wave.

The parametric excitation of slow, intermediate (Alfvén) and fast magneto-acoustic waves by a modulated spatially non-uniform magnetic field in a plasma with a finite ratio of gas pressure to magnetic pressure is considered. The waves are excited in pairs, either pairs of the same mode, or a pair of different modes. The growth rates of the instabilities are calculated and compared with the known result for the Alfvén wave in a zero gas pressure plasma. The only waves that are found not to be excited are the slow plus fast wave pair, and the intermediate plus slow or fast wave pair (unless the waves have a component of propagation direction perpendicular to both the background magnetic field and the direction of non-uniformity of the field).

The theory developed in II is extended to cover the case of a superconductor, and a formula is derived relating the r. f. resistivity to the superconducting penetration depth and other parameters of the metal. It is shown how the penetration depth may be deduced directly from measurements of the skin reactance, and a method of measuring reactance is described, based essentially on the variation of the velocity of propagation along a transmission line due to the reactance of the conductors. For technical reasons it is not convenient to measure the reactance absolutely, but a simple extension of the technique described in I enables the change in reactance to be accurately measured when superconductivity is destroyed by a magnetic field. The method has been applied to mercury and tin. In the former case the results are in agreement with Shoenberg’s direct measurements, and confirm that the penetration depth at 0° K is of the order of 7 x 10 –6 cm. The theory developed at the beginning of the paper is used to deduce the variation of penetration depth with temperature from the resistivity measurements of I, and it is shown that agreement with other determinations and with the reactance measurements is fairly good, but not perfect. Some of the assumptions used in developing the theory are critically discussed, and a qualitative account is given to show how Heisenberg’s theory of superconductivity offers an explanation of some of the salient features of superconductivity and inparticular indicates the relation between superconducting and normal electrons.

We investigate the behaviour of the plasma parameters in the magnetosheath in a case when Interball-1 satellite stayed in the magnetosheath, crossing the tail magnetopause. In our analysis we apply the numerical magnetosheath-magnetosphere model as a theoretical tool. The bow shock and the magnetopause are self-consistently determined in the process of the solution. The flow in the magnetosheath is governed by the Euler equations of compressible ideal gas. The magnetic field in the magnetosphere is calculated by a variant of the Tsyganenko model, modified to account for an asymmetric magnetopause. Also, the magnetopause currents in Tsyganenko model are replaced by numericaly calulated ones. Measurements from WIND spacecraft are used as a solar wind monitor. The results demonstrate a good agreement between the model-calculated and measured values of the parameters under investigation.

Blast waves are generated when an area grows abruptly with a supersonic speed, as in explosions. This problem is quite interesting, as a large amount of energy is released in the process. In contrast to the situation of imploding shocks in ideal gas, where a vast literature is available on the effect of magnetic fields, very little is known about blast waves propagating in a magnetic field. As this problem is highly nonlinear, there are very few techniques that may provide even an approximate analytical solution. We have considered a problem on planar and radially symmetric blast waves to find an approximate solution analytically using Sakurai’s technique. A magnetic field has been taken in the transverse direction. Gas particles are supposed to be propagating orthogonally to the magnetic field in a non-deal medium. We have further assumed that specific conductance of the medium is infinite. Using Sakurai’s approach, we have constructed the solution in a power series of ( C / U ) 2 , where C is the velocity of sound in an ideal gas and U is the velocity of shock front. A comparison of obtained results in the absence of a magnetic field within the published work of Sakurai has been made to generate the confidence in our results. Our results match well with the results reported by Sakurai for gas dynamics. The flow variables are computed behind the leading shock and are shown graphically. It is very interesting that the solution of the problem is obtained in closed form.

High-frequency magnetic field has been developed pervasively. The induction of heat from the magnetic field can help to treat tumor tissue to a certain extent. Normally, treatment by the low-frequency magnetic field needed to be combined with magnetic substances. To assist in the induction of magnetic fields and reduce flux leakage. However, there are studies that have found that high frequencies can cause heat to tumor tissue. In this paper present, a new magnetic application will focus on the analysis of the high-frequency magnetic nickel core with multi-coil. In order to focus the heat energy using a high-frequency magnetic field into the tumor tissue. The magnetic coil was excited by 915 MHz signal and the combination of tissues used are muscle, bone, and tumor. The magnetic power on the heating predicted by the analytical model, the power loss density (2.98e-6 w/m3) was analyzed using the CST microwave studio.

The fluctuation-dissipative theorem and frequency moments for quadratic functions of the reaction of a dense plasma in a constant magnetic field to an electromagnetic field are considered. The frequency moments of the corresponding correlation functions are studied. A model approach is proposed to calculate quadratic reaction functions that determine nonlinear phenomena caused by the quadratic interaction of electromagnetic waves in a dense charged medium (Coulomb systems, plasma) in a constant magnetic field. Keywords: dense plasma, nonlinear fluctuation-dissipative theorem, quadratic reaction functions, nonlinear phenomena.
