Background. Nowadays distance learning is a necessary measure under pandemic circumstances, therefore, it is important to find out mechanisms to improve its effectiveness. Objective is to increase the efficiency of practical classes’ results during distance learning. Methods. Sixty third course international EAs (specialty "222 Medicine", second master's level) were divided into two equal groups with two different teaching approaches of practical classes: control with classical one (material discussion followed by the practical skills implementation) and experimental with a changed indicated stages order. The data of 3 controls (pretest, intermediate test and posttest) during practical classes in the course of one semester were analyzed by criteria for non-normal distribution. Results. Pretest and posttest results were not significantly different in both tested and control groups within different performing level EAs (p>0.05). The data of intermediate tests were familiar in groups of EAs who permanently have either average (p>0.05) or insufficient grades (p>0.05), but increased in groups of EAs with constant low (p≤0,05) and high (p<0,05) scores. Conclusion. Our study showed that academic performance did not heavily depend on performed practical classes’ structure. However, the critical discussion of low- and high-performing EAs' mistakes lead to improvement of their understanding of nuances of gross specimen and slide description, in other words, the implementation of a number of special and general competencies enhancement. All in all, data showd that exit control results as well as final grades depended not so much on the educational approach, but on the EAs' self-study.

Digital libraries have become a modern day phenomenon. Their roles in information generation, organization, dissemination and storage cannot be overemphasized. This chapter articulates the importance of digital libraries and the need to preserve them from disasters. It highlights the causes and effects of disasters in digital libraries. Prevention and management of disasters were also discussed. Issues and challenges around information and communication technology (ICT), that has direct bearings on digital libraries and disaster management in developing countries were raised. In addition, recommendations were made on how to improve on disaster prevention and control.

Coping with an airport disaster is difficult. It is enough to have once been the witness of such an event to understand the enormity of the problem. Instantaneously, the routine atmosphere becomes a nightmare. There are smoke, flames, vehicles, useful people and useless people and above all, the dead, the injured, and the uninjured survivors, some of whom are running about. An airport disaster plan should be carefully set up and applied as strictly as possible. Many features exist in our favor: (a) we know the place; (b) we can roughly evaluate in advance the magnitude of the problem as far as the number of victims is concerned, thanks to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) studies; (c) we can keep in mind the classification of the injured and the medical policy with which now all seem to agree, that is to give on-site immediate care and control evacuation; and (d) we can utilize the medical resources of the surrounding community in a co-ordinated way. This paper summarizes the basic principles for disaster control.

During peak hours at Frankfurt Airport, approximately 10,000 employees of 300 different firms, organizations and services simultaneously handle more than 10,000 passengers and accompanying people. Most of them are not familiar with the airport facilities and speak several different languages.Disaster management is the act of solving an organization problem under pressure of time. The leading role during the immediate action concerning major accidents or disasters is played by the Safety and Security Control Center of the airport operator, which alerts and controls all emergency services of the airport. Included in this organization are the fire-fighting, rescue and medical services of the airport operator, the U.S. Rhein Main Air Base and the emergency services of the City of Frankfurt. The immediate actions are exclusively based on the operation of professional task forces (without volunteer helpers). As far as possible, the emergency procedures, including personnel operations, are the same at all hours (working/holidays, day/night).The basis for the emergency operation is the “Emergency Orders” manual. The manual consists of an alarm plan in the form of alarm checklists for the different emergency services and of emergency procedures which are activated through the alarm plan.Command and control through the staff and communication system of the Safety and Security Operation Center, the on-scene Mobil Command Post and the operation centers of the airport services guarantee that the immediate response of the airport's and external task forces is fully coordinated without delay.

The delivery of services to government groups have historically been unsatisfactory. Multiple studies have identified these services as low performing. Studies have also found that information communication technology services have been one of the worst performing services over the last 10 years. The Performance Based Studies Research Group (PBSRG) has been testing a delivery model, called the Best Value Approach, for the last 20 years that can ensure government groups receive high performing services. The major issue that the BVA approach encounters is it requires the organization to change their normal way of delivering services. It requires the organization to minimize their management, direction, and control of the vendors and instead, utilize their expertise. This paper will review a case study with a local government organization (LGO) and their issues with trying to apply the BVA to deliver their Peoplesoft software.

Emotional intelligence is a term popularised by the American Psychologist Daniel Goleman[1]. It is the ability to recognise, understand and control one’s emotions and consider the impact these have on oneself and others around them, particularly in the context of social interaction. Emotional intelligence can therefore allow for the formation of strong friendships, effective leadership abilities, high performing teams, and is usually identified in high achieving individuals[2].

This study explored how a critical and place-based language arts curriculum influenced high-performing rural students as writers. This study uses data from a larger, federally funded grant. The sample included 199 students, who comprised the second cohort of students participating in the Promoting Place in Rural Schools grant and were randomly assigned to treatment and control groups. Students in the treatment groups were provided instruction using four language arts units designed for high-achieving, rural students, while students in the control group were provided the traditional language arts curriculum for their grade level. This study uses 149/199 pre-tests and 158/199 post-tests due to students being absent for testing or dropping out of or being added to the study. Qualitative analysis of student pre- and post-test writing tasks provided data that supported the conclusion that while students in the control group made place connections, students in the treatment group made deeper and more critical connections to place. These findings suggest that writing instruction that values students’ lived experiences provides opportunities for students to make meaning using what they know, as well as to critically examine their experiences as members of their local communities. This study provides insight into writing classrooms that embrace student experience and view students as valuable members of their communities.
