Carlos Drummond de Andrade’s memorialistic poetry Boitempo I is a result of a deliberated search of his child world as a loft full of raw material waiting for the eye that captures it and the creator that moulds it. In the section To live in this house, more than evoking preterit objects such as “crystal bottles”, “compotiers”, “sewing cases”, or reporting himself to the sensorial pleasure that comes out from them, the collector poet composes a shop window where the daily and subjective impressions of a child born in the beginning of the twenty century are disclosed. It protects them from loosing not only their shapes and substances got by the poetic reexperimentation, but also their unique way of perception in which the self is fused with the object, and the observer, dragged by the espectral vision, turns himself into his desired object. Starting from these reflections, the essay The Pleasure of Seeing tries to set up links between the memorialistic poetry of Drummond’s childhood in Minas Gerais and Walter Benjamin’s childhood in Berlim.

Two forms or rather perspectives of observations appear alongside practice theories: The first perspective can be called the „theatre perspective“: practice here is observed as a regular, spatiotemporally ordered, socially structured, and therefore recognizable historical form of „practical doings and sayings“, in which participants are understood as mere carriers of practices and their bodies as the raw material for processes of formation. In the other perspective, understood as the perspective of the participants themselves, practices come into view as ongoing, conflictual, and contingent accomplishments, in which participants occur as intelligently collaborating contributors with so called „lived bodies“. These bodies are affectable, sites of experience, and media of a sensitivity that allow an embodied self to orientate itself (with)in a practice. This paper proposes a methodological mediation of both perspectives by taking into account both a sociological analysis of discipline, formation, or adjustment, and the reflexive sensing in action, which can be modeled phenomenologically. Thus, a „lived-body-in-accomplishment“ comes into view that serves the material basis of subjectivation procceses, i. e. the (self-)formation of a constitutionally conditioned (political) agency.

Being a fast growing plastic manufacturing industry, rotational molding has been using the linear polyethylenes extensively as the raw material. As these materials have shown insufficient mechanical properties for certain applications where strength and stiffness of the products are the main concerns, worldwide rotational molders have expressed a need for stronger and stiffer materials to be available for rotomolding. A possible attractive solution may be the recently developed microfibril reinforced composites (MFCs). Blends of linear medium density polyethylene/polyethylene terephthalate (LMDPE/PET) with an MFC structure are manufactured on a commercial-scale set-up and thereafter used in rotational molding. The samples are characterized morphologically and tested mechanically. The results obtained show that the MFC-concept has good application opportunities in the polymer processing including rotational molding.

A high rate of production of complex microparts is increasingly required by fields like electronics and micromechanics. Handling is one of the main problems, limiting those forming processes of small metal components consisting of multiple forming stages. A forming chain in which a metal strip acts both as raw material and support of the workpiece through the different stages of the process, is seen as a solution that radically simplifies the positioning of microparts. Each workpiece stays connected to the strip through all the forming steps, being separated just at the end of the process chain. In this work, a tooling system for the bulk forming from copper strips has been set up and employed in a full forward extrusion process of a micro-billet. The same die, with a diameter of 1 mm, has been used with three different strip thicknesses (1, 2 and 3 mm) and three different material conditions. The use of thinner and hard-as-rolled strips has resulted in achieving a higher ratio of the billet length to strip thickness.

New cultural techniques have been developed to improve the yield and raw material quality at harvest, and enhance the postharvest shelf life, by standardizing the growing system. Among the different Soilless Cultivation Systems, the New Growing System (NGS®) is a closed-recirculating system that was designed for open fields and protected cultivations. The aim of this work was to investigate the structural setting of the system and its functioning to harness the full potentiality of NGS®. A lab-scale pilot plant (LSPP) was designed with NGS® technology and the technical aspects have been set up to have a standardized and reproducible growing system. The trials were conducted on growing mature-leaf vegetable species; that is, on both head and multi-leaf vegetables, and on culinary herbs at high plant densities. Positive yield results were found for culinary herbs and leafy vegetables. Mints showed high yields for the two re-growths carried out after the first harvest. The LSPP can also be used in a series of reliable experiments and enable researches to test several species, substrates, hydroponic nutrient solutions, and fertigation scheduling.

Zinc scrap is a source of raw material for zinc oxide production. However, to qualify the requirement of raw material for zinc oxide (99.5%) production, refining this source is needed. Many methods are considered such as rectification, chemical method, etc., but difficult to apply on an industrial scale. This workfocused on the investigation of the influence of temperature and time factors for asessing the possibility of applying liquation method for the purification of impurities from scrap zinc. The experiment results show that the optimum temperature of liquation to remove Pb,Fe from zinc scrap is in the range of 440-450°C, the optimal time of the process is 8h for the pot with 8cm in height and 6cm in diameter (the quantity of raw zinc sample is about 2kg / batch), then we can obtain about 80% of zinc metal with an average Zn content of about 97, 0%, both Pb and Fe content decreased to a range from 0.35 to 0.4%, and 1.0 to 1.1%, respectively, which meet the requirement of raw materials for the production of high quanlity ZnO ( 99,5 %). Based on the parameters obtained on lab-scale, a trial on pilot scale of 250 kg / batch was conducted, The result confirms that the quality of the products meets the requirement of raw materials for production of high quality ZnO (99.5%) and a technology process for refining zinc scrap by the liquation was proposed.

Currently, the safety of patients is an integral part of clinical practice, especially within medical schools. The safety device and the environment had to be concerned when medical education modules were set up. One of the most worriers in obstetrical practice among undergraduates was vaginal birth training. The inadequate safety instrument in training made students loss of their self-reliance and competence. This study aimed to test the effect of a new safety apparatus on the self-confidence and clinical performance of undergraduates on vaginal birth training. The medical students were randomized to this sample and split into two groups for two vaginal birth simulation stations; convention and intervention. The participants’ self-confidence assessment was carried out at the end of trial. In addition, clinical performance ratings on vaginal birth simulation were analyzed by experts during the experiments. There was 40 medical students attended to this trial and found a significant statistical increment in GSE and CPAT scores in the intervention trial. All volunteers were satisfied with the new safety equipment and more confident to taking care of mothers in vaginal birth practices. We concluded that this innovation could boost the confidence of medical students in vaginal birth practices and increase their clinical performance in simulation. However, it needs to be checked again in the workplace.

The novel “The Slave Girl” by Buchi Emecheta exposes the plights of African women and portrayal of their struggle as slaves and ultimately how they come up the problem and becomes a self-awakened. In this paper, one can see Ojebeta starting her life as a slave and finally becomes an owner of a house by passing so many phases of life as a slave. In the beginning, she is sold into domestic slavery by her own brother. She has become the victim to her brother’s traits. She has become a scapegoat to the plans of African patriarchy. The intention of Buchi Emecheta is to recreate the image of women through feminism. Emecheta’s fiction is blended with reality representing socio historical elements of the prevailing society and its environment besides questioning the pathetic conditions of the people in general and women in particular. One can observe the narration of innocence of childhood grown into adulthood by attaining certain amount of freedom with the Christian education which she has received with which she has attained a small degree of self-awareness.

Ribeirão das Neves is a city in Minas Gerais with approximately 334 thousand inhabitants and 60% of the self-declared black population. In addition to the stigma “city of penitentiaries”, it was also known for the pun “Ribeirão das Trevas” published in the Official Gazette of the State on September 7, 2013 and on the website of the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais on August 21, 2018, and for thousands of publications of violence and poverty related by internet search algorithms. However, the city destined by the government to always be the same, houses other narratives created by a collective of black educating skaters: the Just Crew Skateboard. This article is an offshoot of the master's thesis and presents the results of the investigation, revealing in the light of the readings of Nilma Lino Gomes, how this group challenges the stigma of the city by showing new possibilities for engagement and a narrative that values life and sociability.

AbstractFirst, different porous media theories are presented. Some approaches are based on the classical mixture theory for fluids introduced in the 1960s by Truesdell and Coworkers. One of the first researchers who extended the theory to porous media (thus mixtures containing at least one solid constituent) and also accounting for chemical reactions was Bowen. Another important branch of porous media theory goes back to Biot. In the beginning, he dealt with classical geotechnical problems and set up his model empirically. Mathematicians often use reaction–diffusion equations which are limited in comparison with continuum models by several restrictive assumptions and very often only applicable to special problems. In this paper, the focus lies on approaches based on the mixture theory which incorporate chemical reactions. Different strategies to describe the chemical potential for mixtures are presented, and different opinions about the exploitation of the second law of thermodynamics for mixtures are put forward. Finally, several works of different types including chemical reactions in porous media are summarized.
