A special point was found in the frequency characteristics of the oscillatory circuit, which was not mentioned earlier in textbooks on electrical engineering and radio engineering. The module of complex resistance of the circuit does not depend on the value of the active resistance at a frequency less than  times that of the resonance. The material is of interest to all engineers and scientists specializing in electrical engineering. On its basis, new methods for measuring the parameters of electrical circuits can be developed. Physical interpretation of the phenomenon doesn't exist at the moment.

The study of pain requires a balance between subjective methods that rely on self-reports and complementary objective biometrics that ascertain physical signals associated with subjective accounts. There are at present no objective scales that enable the personalized assessment of pain, as most work involving electrophysiology rely on summary statistics from a priori theoretical population assumptions. Along these lines, recent work has provided evidence of differences in pain sensations between participants with Sensory Over Responsivity (SOR) and controls. While these analyses are useful to understand pain across groups, there remains a need to quantify individual differences more precisely in a personalized manner. Here we offer new methods to characterize pain using the moment-by-moment standardized fluctuations in EEG brain activity centrally reflecting the person’s experiencing temperature-based stimulation at the periphery. This type of gross data is often disregarded as noise, yet here we show its utility to characterize the lingering sensation of discomfort raising to the level of pain, individually, for each participant. We show fundamental differences between the SOR group in relation to controls and provide an objective account of pain congruent with the subjective self-reported data. This offers the potential to build a standardized scale useful to profile pain levels in a personalized manner across the general population.

The paper analyzes the importance of power engineering for solving a wide range of practical problems. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results of the research of scientists and specialists in 2013–2019 in power engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and radio engineering on the basis of RSCI databases (Russian Science Citation Index). The analysis was carried out taking into account a number of scientometric indicators: the publication activity of researchers – the annual number of their publications, as well as the citation of these publications and the demand for the results of their work. Features of dynamics of formation of indicators of publication activity are revealed: its high values are typical for electronics and radio engineering and minimum values (more than three times smaller) – for electrical engineering. For all three industries analyzed the number of publications increased in 2013–2018. It is noted that the citation indicators for the three industries have been continuously decreasing since 2014. At the same time, in the field of electronics and radio engineering in 2013–2017, citation rates are three or more times higher than similar indicators for energy and electrical engineering. The results of research in the field of electronics and radio engineering are the most popular, while the results of research in the energy sector are the least popular. At the same time, the annual demand for research results in electronics and radio engineering exceeds similar indicators for energy by about 1.4 times. The low demand indicators for all areas of research in 2019 are obviously due to the same reason as for small citation indicators this year: the slow “response” of the scientific community to this year's publications.

Abstract The direction of electron beam technologies is promising and is rapidly developing. Quite recently, the electron beam was a tool for welding, and nowadays, electron-beam additive technologies and beam hardening technologies have become widespread. At the moment, there is no electron beam system that unites all these technologies. Expensive equipment has been developed to implement each technology. The article deals with expanding the technological capabilities of the 15E1000 electron-beam welding installation in order to implement new methods and techniques for processing metals with an electron beam.

The concepts of resistance and inductance are strewn with misunderstanding and errors that result from inaccurate terminology, mistakes in their definitions, and from the fact that they are quantities that characterize elements of ideal electrical circuits as well as real solid conductors. This is shown unfavourably not only in the respective field of the theory of electrical engineering, but also in the calculation of resistance and inductance. In this paper, a brief theoretical analysis of the state of the art is given, and its results are applied in the calculation of the current density, resistance, and inductance of two coaxial solid tubular conductors.

Spontaneous generation of the Dicke superradiation (SR) state has been found in the system of inversely polarised proton spins with “frozen” polarisation. SR is observed at the moment when the Larmor frequency crosses the resonance frequency of the passive oscillatory circuit. SR arises from incoherent maser generation of spins. The frequency of a SR generator can be retuned from several hundreds of kilohertz to hundreds of megahertz at very low temperatures. Dependence of incoherent and coherent radiation on the initial polarisation has been investigated. A radio frequency analogue of the optical SR laser is shown to be possible both for weak-amplifying and for strong-amplifying active media, depending on the factor of filling and polarisation of nuclei. SR-reverse of negative polarisation is observed in the latter case.

Real-time monitoring of the state of ecological systems can contribute to early warning of their deviation from an equilibrium state (homeostasis) or a change that leads to a threat to human health or existence. In addition to the existing means of monitoring the state of ecological systems and models for predicting the assessment of their state in the future, it is proposed to use models of the frequency characteristics of these systems, monitoring of which can detect signals about the appearance of unwanted deviations from homeostasis in the form of a change in the frequency spectrum. A change in the frequency spectrum can be converted into the sound waveform, which will allow timely detection of this undesirable change in the state of the ecological system. As a new information channel and analysis of the dynamics of the state of ecological systems, in the article it is proposed to use the wavelet transform of time series with the subsequent translation of the totality of their harmonic vibrations into sound form. In contrast to the Fourier transform, in which the spectrum of stationary and non-stationary processes is practically indistinguishable and it is impossible to determine the moment of the appearance of a new harmonic, the wavelet transformation gives this opportunity. In addition to the purely utilitarian application of the conversion of the vibrational characteristics of an ecological system into sound form, it becomes be possible to convert them into the “music” of ecological systems, which may give a new direction for creative understanding of the state of nature.

Healthcare and health professions education is at the moment of a paradigm shift. The traditions of our institutions, such as in person courses and clinical experiences, are under tremendous strain. The COVID-19 pandemic, and sudden shift to almost fully online coursework, has provided a catalyst for new methods of nursing education for our profession. Crisis creates significant energy and can generate solutions to past barriers. Nursing education continues to be disrupted by the current events that require new thinking and innovation to create the nursing workforce of the future. In this article, we briefly discuss today’s challenges and the pandemic disruption and subsequent call for innovation. We offer evidence to support the path forward and examples of how to layer technology into innovative teaching and learning.

As scholars in social sciences and humanities explore new methods for studying increasingly digitized societies, electronic research methods—such as email interviews—have moved from marginal complementary activities to, depending on the purpose of the study, potentially becoming primary methods. However, while there is no lack of discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of such methods, there is little guidance in the literature in terms of how electronic methods can be used effectively and productively in qualitative research. This article adds to the existing body of literature by outlining a strategy for email interviews. The argument of the article is that email interviewing can be fruitfully combined with explorative interviewing, offering the researcher a way to strategically work with the extended time frame that asynchronous interviewing brings with it. This gives the researcher an opportunity to work with open-ended introductory questions, follow-up questions, and cross-fertilization of multiple interviews carried out simultaneously. The article brings forward the argument that a methodological strategy that combines email interviews and explorative interviewing can help the researcher draw the moment of surprise closer together with the moment of analysis and thereby challenge existing theories and knowledge of the study object. The argument is illustrated through examples from an ethnographic study with no in-person elements. Additionally, the article acknowledges that email interviewing is necessary for some significant research tasks and in some cases even a more suitable option than traditional in-person methods due to the study’s objective and the nature of its participants.
