Abstract Background:Mandatory quarantine during COVID-19 has disrupted normal social and economic life and many people became trapped and isolated with increasing levels of anxiety and financial difficulties. Especially for vulnerable people, the COVID-19 pandemic had shown by many studies to increase the depressive and anxiety symptoms as well as suicidal ideation and suicidal attempts. Increased suicidal attempts had been associated with the increased burden of the health and economic impacts of the pandemic.Cases Presentation:Here, we report four cases of suicidal attempts during the COVID 19 outbreak due to the lockdown and related economic difficulties. Those cases were admitted to a general hospital from the period April 2020 to June 2020. All patients were males, tested negative for coronavirus and used violent methods of suicide. After receiving the appropriate treatment, all cases were discharged from the hospital. Conclusion:The COVID-19 pandemic and its economic and social impacts could result in significant consequences on vulnerable persons. As shown by many studies, Screening and early treatment are of paramount importance in preventing the mental health complications of the pandemic

Farm workers living in and around the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site are some of the most vulnerable people in South Africa. Research by means of a case study with four participants from this group examined the following question: How do vulnerable people continue preaching the Word in this environment by ministering to other vulnerable people with the sermons that they have heard? The case study considered both the environment and the circumstances in which these participants live. This research aimed to establish what it means to preach to those who are vulnerable and how such preaching can be continued by the hearers. A case study by means of a qualitative empirical investigation called upon a few of the vulnerable hearers to speak.Thefindings included that the participants to this case study do not spread the sermons further on a regular basis, but they would be able to edify and encourage other vulnerable persons with it if needed. If they do talk to each other about the sermon directly after the worship service (like it was done during the interviews), their confidence to proclaim the message to other vulnerable people who do not participate in the worship services will increase.

Objective: The association between isotretinoin and depression has received little attention in the psychiatric literature despite an increasing number of reports in medical journals. The purpose of this paper is to highlight this association, examine the possible link and review the clinical implications. Method: A critical review of the literature pertaining to depression in patients with acne who were treated with isotretinoin was conducted. Results and Conclusions: The causal relationship between isotretinoin therapy and depression has not been clearly established and needs further study. Isotretinoin is likely to have a positive psychological impact for the majority of patients who benefit from such a highly efficacious anti-acne treatment. However, it is important to recognize that depression can occur as an idiosyncratic side-effect that requires urgent and appropriate treatment. Therefore, having a low threshold for detection of this uncommon complication and early psychiatric referral to address both the depression and its contributing factors may prevent serious consequences.

AbstractThe internet, social media and online profiling have fundamentally changed advertising, and the regulation of gambling advertising has not yet managed to address the challenges and opportunities arising from this technological shift. Furthermore, the regulation of gambling does not take into account sufficiently the needs of children and vulnerable persons. We review the empirical research on the impact of gambling advertising and show how regulatory standards firmly adhere to the transmission theory of communication that prioritises the communicative intent of the advertiser over how the advertising message is received by or impacts on vulnerable people. This article reviews the law on gambling advertising and argues that for gambling, the restrictions imposed by the largely co-regulatory system only have limited effect. We compare the regulation of gambling advertising, by way of analogy, to a sieve that holds only a little water, and make recommendations for legal reform.

Background: During this pandemic year, the world has been experiencing an unprecedented situation on several levels. The measures taken, while necessary and vital, are significant stressors and can have, along with many other factors, a psychological impact on the general population and some vulnerable categories. Aim: Here we propose to describe this psychological impact, giving some advice in line with international recommendations. Method and Results: Through a summary of the main recommendations issued in this area recently, we have established a list of advice for professionals and concerned people. Discussion and Conclusion: Protecting ourselves and the most vulnerable people, from the psychological risks to which we are exposed, is currently an absolute necessity in order to be able to get out of this situation with the least possible damage. Learning to cope with these difficult times is also a way to learn how to deal with the adversity that such events can constitute in the future.

Background. Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) has no medical benefits and is associated with serious health complications. FGM/C including medicalization is illegal in Kenya. Capacity building for nurse-midwives to manage and prevent FGM/C is therefore critical. Objective. Determine the current FGM/C knowledge and effect of training among nurse-midwives using an electronic tool derived from a paper-based quiz on FGM/C among nurse-midwives. Methods. Nurse-midwives n=26 were assessed pre- and post-FGM/C training using a quiz comprising 12 questions. The quiz assessed the following factors: definition, classification, determining factors, epidemiology, medicalization, prevention, health consequences, and nurse-midwives’ roles in FGM/C prevention themes. The scores for individuals and all the questions were computed and compared using SPSS V22. Results. The mean scores for the quiz were 64.8%, improving to 96.2% p<0.05 after training. Before the training, the following proportions of participants correctly answered questions demonstrating their knowledge of types of cutting (84.6%), link with health problems (96.2%), FGM/C-related complications (96.2%), communities that practice FGM/C (61.5%), medicalization (43.6%), reinfibulation (46.2%), dissociation from religion (46.2%), and the law as it relates to FGM/C (46.2%). The participants demonstrated knowledge of FGM/C-related complications with the proportion of nurse-midwives correctly answering questions relating to physical impact (69.2%), psychological impact (69.2%), sexual impact (57.7%), and social impact (38.5%). Additionally, participant awareness of NM roles in managing FGM/C included the following: knowledge of the nurse-midwife as counselor (69.2%), advocate (80.8%), leader (26.9%), role model (42.3%), and caregiver (34.6%). These scores improved significantly after training. Conclusion. Substantial FGM/C-related knowledge was demonstrated by nurse-midwives. They, however, showed challenges in preventing/rejecting medicalization of FGM/C, and there were knowledge gaps concerning sexual and social complications, as well as the specific roles of NM. This underscores the need to implement innovative FGM/C training interventions to empower health professionals to better respond to its management and prevention.

The oil industry is one of the main key points in the economies of Russia and Iraq, therefore, the state, social and economic life of the country depends on its productivity, functioning, and stability. The oil industry has several tasks: improving energy efficiency, modernizing equipment, and innovative developments. The oil industry has experienced ups and downs over the years, but the 2020 crisis hit the industry harder than in all years. The long-term decline in oil demand paints highly unfavorable prospects for the future. The Covid 19 crisis was the worst in the history of the oil industry. As companies and entire industries recoil from its effects, oil prices continue to fall. The pandemic has reduced the demand for oil to such an extent that the industry is unable to adapt to such a sharp decline. And the buildup of oil reserves further lowers fuel prices. This article is devoted to the reflection of the algorithm and the substantiation of the practical application of the developed automated model of analysis and forecasting of the financial condition of an enterprise using regression analysis in assessing the financial indicators of an oil production enterprise. In the course of the research, the methods of logical, statistical analysis were used. The developed prototype of an automated model for complex analysis and forecasting of the financial condition of oil production enterprises is a good basis for creating a full-fledged commercial system for the oil production business. It is concluded that the new automated model of analysis and forecasting provides an opportunity to analyze the financial condition of an oil production enterprise, including the identification of its financial difficulties and the study of financial attractiveness, as well as to predict the financial condition of an oil production enterprise within almost any time interval, determining ways to overcome its financial difficulties and increasing financial attractiveness.

Organophosphates poisoning represents a challenge for the emergency medical specialist, the first who comes into contact with intoxicated patients and who should promptly manage this pathology. Our study aims to determine whether there are any significant changes after a 10 years period regarding some characteristics of the patients with acute organophosphorus compounds poisoning. The study was retrospective, observational, descriptive, non-randomized and took place at the Bucharest Emergency Clinical Hospital during 1st of January 1995 – 31st of December 1997 and 1st of January 2014 – 31st of December 2016 respectively. Our study was based on the comparative assessment of two groups of patients as follows: patients admitted during 1995-1997 (292 patients) and patients admitted during 2014-2016 (161 patients). The percentage of suicidal attempts through organophosphorus compounds decreased over the course of 10 years from 84.78% in 1996 to 63.63% in 2016. A psychiatric pathology was identified in 39.31% of the suicidal attempts and in 15.68% of accidental contact cases. Regarding the distribution of exposure type per year, we observed an increase in cases where the penetration pathway occurred through skin and inhalation from 9.57% in 1995 to 18.33% in 2015, with a proportional decrease in the digestive exposure. In the analyzed groups, 36 deaths were identified, with an equal distribution in the two studied periods, of about 8-10%.  Although there was a 10-year interval between the two patient lots during which intensive care techniques have significantly progressed, we observed from the statistical data that the death rate did not decrease significantly in the 2014-2016 lot compared to the 1994-1996 lot. We believe that this is partly due to the gravity of these patients and to the time elapsed from the presentation of the patients to the physician and appropriate treatment initiation.
