Purpose. The purpose of the research is to analyze Ukraine and its enterprise’s methods of implementation of circular principles and business models to ensure their sustainable development. Design/methodology/approach. The study examines the hypothesis of the global need and high efficiency of changing the economic model from linear to circular at different levels, including the adaptation of circular business models at Ukrainian enterprises. To assess the essence, advantages, practical approaches, and examples of transformation by enterprises of the circular principles and business models, general scientific theoretical methods of scientific research (formalization, analysis, and synthesis, systematization, and explanation) are used. Findings. The hypothesis of the global need and high efficiency of changing the economic model from linear to circular at different levels, including the adaptation of circular business models at Ukrainian enterprises, is proven. The world experience and practice, first of all, European, are analyzed, and successful examples of their introduction by the leading enterprises are given. They confirmed that circular principles are helpful not only for ecology and the environment but also for enterprises and states’ economic efficiency. Practical implications. The results of this research show that taking into account the world experience and provided recommendations, in particular on “green procurement”, it is expedient for domestic enterprises to implement promptly circular business models for sustainable development and international competitiveness boosting, and for the state – to develop a clear strategy for transition to a circular economic model. For its effective implementation, it is necessary to consider three aspects: economic, environmental, and social, as well as possible risks. Originality/value. Considering current environmental and economic problems, the circular model was recognized as especially relevant for Ukraine today on its way to the E.U. This study highlights the essence, principles, prerequisites, and world experience of transition from a linear to a circular model of the economy and ways of sustainable development and competitiveness of domestic enterprises by adapting circular business models. The results are valuable for enterprises and countries in their transition to circularity, providing waste recovery and recycling, using renewable materials and reuse of products, prevention of pollution and depletion of resources, ensuring profitability and sustainable development.

The purpose of the article is to identify key differences between the circularity and sustainability of the system, to develop the systematization of the circular economy principles, innovative business models aimed to ensure it, as well as regulatory measures of public authorities to stimulate and support circular economy taking into account a progressive foreign experience. Research methods. In the course of the research the method of comparative analysis (assessment of measures of state regulatory policy in some countries of the world), abstract-logical method (problem statement, substantiation of conclusions), monographic method (analysis of evolution of national and foreign scientists works on circular economy), dialectical methods of cognition were used. Research results. The peculiarities of the circular economy are highlighted, it is emphasized that the circularity of the system and sustainability are interrelated concepts, but not identical. It is determined that the circular economy is a set of economic tools and methods used to ensure the sustainable development of the system. It is substantiated that the introduction of a circular economic model requires a change or adaptation of current business models according to new conditions and needs of housekeeping. The main measures of the state regulatory policy of some countries of the world to support and stimulate such business models are analyzed. Scientific novelty. The theoretical basics of the circular economy have been further developed, the purpose of which is to ensure sustainable development by optimizing the use of resource potential and innovative business models with systematic governmental support. Practical significance. It is proved that the development of a circular economic model is impossible without an active state regulatory policy. Access to energy is crucial in tackling many of the current global development challenges that impact on people’s economic, health and social well-being as well as the ability to meet the commitments of reducing carbon emissions through clean energy use. Despite increased attention from multiple governments and agencies, energy poverty remains a serious sustainable development issue in many developing countries. To date, most research have focused on general access to electricity and the generation of clean energy to replace fossil fuels, failing to address the lack of basic access to clean energy for cooking and heating. More people in the world lack access to clean cooking fuels than to electricity. This issue is one aspect of a broader research which investigates the impacts of optimized energy policy and energy business models on sustainable development in developing countries.

The world ecological problem of waste accumulation, environmental pollution and the need to develop a circular economy are described. The aim of the article is to show the advantage of using a circular economy in the management of the national economy. It is substantiated that resource management should radically change from a linear model of accept-use-dispose to a more stable, circular model. It is proved that the principles of circular economy are not based on the management of material and waste flows, but on more valuable methods, such as maintenance, recycling and reuse. Different models of circular economy and their shortcomings are considered. Based on practical world experience in implementing the concept of circular economy, 5 main circular business models are identified. It has been established that circular supply chains that minimize waste and seek to reuse, repair and recycle where waste cannot be prevented should be more sustainable than the linear systems they replace. It was found that in the absence of effective resource management, the current environmental situation will lead to fatal consequences, which confirms the need for public administration to ensure the use of a circular economy.

The research represents the analysis of the circular economy and its essential characteristics of circular economy in the modern world. The circular economy makes it possible to "detach" the country's GDP growth from the consumption of natural resources and environmental pollution. It explains how the circular economy should stimulate sustainable development and inclusion in the system of Sustainable Development Goals. The research presents how the circular economy can ensure labor productivity, efficient environmental and energy conservation, and the creation of new jobs. It analyzes principles and tools of the circular economy. This research shows how economies should move from the current linear take, make, use, dispose practice to reuse and longer product life. It shows how current business models change and what principles are used to develop a circular economy. It examines the circular approaches based on the 3-R principle: Reduce: reduce resource use and prioritize renewable materials; Reuse: make the most of the products; Recycle: recover by-products and waste for further use in the economy. The research shows how seven key tools of the circular economy may be applied. It reveals the international experience in implementing the circular economy principles. The research describes the benefits that the transition to a circular economy brings. It analyses major circular economy barriers, such as financial, social, and technical. The research distinguishes the benefits of a circular economy. They include a decrease in costs, a cleaner and safer environment, sensitive use of natural resources, new job creation, reducing dependence on imports. This research presents the examples of Norrköping Industrial Symbiosis Network in Sweden, Latvia’s circularity business models.

The paper analysis the strategies and concepts developed in the world in modern directions: innova- tive economy, digital economy, artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0 and others. The problem is to determine the initial fundamental parameters of order and their prospects in the global world, the definition and principles of artificial intel- ligence systems (AIS), its structure and important aspects and principles of future science and technology in analysis and synthesis based on synergetic approaches, innovative, information, converged technologies, taking into account the design of future and viable and safe and sustainable development in the context of Industry 4.0, digital economy (DE) and Society 5.0. The general scheme of the integrated model of sustainable and socio-humanitarian development in the global system is proposed, which the authors call the noosphere model of sustainable and safe development as an important fundamental platform for the design and creation of AIS. In the XXI century education, science and innova- tive technologies becomes the «basis» of the spiritual and material reproduction of man, transforming the society of the XXI century into an educational society, ensures compliance with the law of advanced development of human quality, quality of social intelligence and quality of educational systems in society. noosphere evolution (Субетто, 2008). Industry 4.0 is the next stage in the digitalization of production technologies with the accelerated introduction of new developments and cyberphysical systems, which is changing business models. Accordingly, Industry 4.0 as a separate segment of digital manufacturing technologies takes its place among other digital sectors. The analysis of the Strategies and Concepts developed in the world in modern directions: innovative economy, digital economy, artificial intelli- gence, Industry 4.0 and others is carried out in the work. The problem is to determine the initial fundamental para- meters of order and their prospects in the global world, the definition and principles of artificial intelligence systems (AIS), its structure and important aspects and principles of future science and technology in analysis and synthesis ba- sed on synergetic approaches, innovative, information, converged technologies, taking into account the design of future and viable and safe and sustainable development in the context of Industry 4.0, DE and Society 5.0. The main scientific and technological factors in the 21st century will be the development of: Artificial Intelligence, Nano Technologies, Bio-Media Technologies, Cognitive Technologies and Socio-Humanitarian Technologies. More specifically – this is the modern development of Innovative Technologies: «NBIC SH». Therefore, it is necessary to note the importance of taking into account the principle of I2K2+SH, ie: Intellectualization, Integration, Convergence, Coevolution and Socio- humanitarian technologies. It is important and necessary to take into account modern principles of designing a su- stainable and secure AIS and solving the problem of Harmonization between 2 worlds: Real and Virtual, especially in their hybridization. Our immediate future is a hybrid nonlinear world. Note that digitalization, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics will be the main drivers of global economic growth by 2030E. An important paradigm and platform is the Integrated System: for Industry 4.0, DE and AI, taking into account the complex principle of I2K2+SH. If the transition of the Ukrainian economy to an innovative one does not take place in the next 3-5 years, Ukraine will remain in the backyard of civilization.

Given the limited volume of natural resources and the trend towards population growth, the existing linear model of take-use-recycling economy needs rethinking. The idea that underlies the circular model of the economy, according to which goods of today are to become resources of tomorrow, is becoming increasingly relevant. Under these conditions, the agricultural sector must, first of all, ensuring food security, intensify the production of biomass as a renewable source of energy, since bioresources and biomass make up the highest share in agriculture. The article summarizes and proposes the strategic goals and guidelines for the development of the bioenergy component of agriculture. In Ukraine, a significant amount of biomass is produced annually, which is not used efficiently. Instead of addressing the needs of the energy sector, the lion’s share of waste is recovered through incineration, which in itself causes significant damage to the environment in general and the economy in particular. It has been researched that the potential of bioenergy largely depends on the geographical distribution and availability of existing waste and by-products on the one hand, and on the overall strategic orientations of the sector’s development on the other. The article analyzes the strategic goals of the rational use of agricultural waste for bioenergy production, which would certainly be economically viable and contribute to the sustainable development of the state’s economy. Strategic guidelines that are formulated in terms of the requirements and constraints of the circular economy are also offered. They are: 1) Use biomass that is obtained only on the basis of the principle of sustainability; 2) Promote the use of research, development and innovation at various stages; 3) Adhere to the principles of optimal use of bioresources; 4) Transformation of business models of players in the bioenergy market. Successful implementation of the circular business model in the agricultural sector must take into account the interests of all market participants, based on the principle of sustainable development. At the stage of transformation from a linear to a circular economy, the agricultural sector needs to change its existing business models in order to increase its innovation component, improve its logistics processes, develop a strategy for realizing its existing bioenergy potential and sustainable economic development in general. It should be understood that the benefits expected from the bioenergy sector are only possible in the long run.

There is a growing recognition and acceptance that society needs to develop new pathways to achieve a more sustainable future. Our current model of development poses significant challenges when it comes to achieving a more just society based on respect for nature and human rights, and demands a sustainable economy supported by a new circular model supporting the UN sustainable development goals. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) accordingly have developed Master programs that are responsible for providing fundamental services in the joint effort towards sustainability. Meanwhile, leading Universities around the world have developed other very relevant programs. The open and unstructured challenge of sustainability poses an obstacle to existing academic structures. Specifically, the built environment is one of the leading contributors to challenges addressed in the programs such as: Anthropogenic climate change, resource depletion, waste generation and pollution, poverty, and inequity. The Interdisciplinary Sustainable Architecture lab (ISAlab) explores these issues as part of a multidisciplinary approach involving the collaboration of leading Universities from different areas on the world through an innovative initiative. This paper explores the experiences of the ISAlab workshop, which has been taking place yearly in Valencia since 2017. The workshop draws together students from a range of disciplines from across engineering and science, law and the social sciences and from a range of countries and backgrounds, including North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Its purpose is to facilitate a rich co-creative learning environment led by (engineering) academic faculties from across Europe (Spain, the UK, France, Germany, Netherlands and Ireland) as well as North America (the US and Canada), as well as local experts who helped provide participants with appropriate context and guidance. The objective is educating future engineers that are capable of finding robust ways to implement sustainability at a practical level on the built environment, taking account of the multidisciplinary perspective and with the incentive of solving real-life problems.

There is an ongoing debate in the research literature on whether the neoliberal economic rationalities permeating public administration, policy, and governance across much of the world provide the means necessary for promoting sustainable development. Parallel to this debate, it has been suggested that resilience thinking, a notion with growing policy importance, could either reproduce the neoliberal mainstream or challenge it at its core, depending on the modes of resilience thinking emerging from practice. Taking the position that new economic rationalities are needed, this study examines how transformative modes of resilience thinking that emerge from practice create tensions that can support a transformation toward the economic rationalities of the so-called doughnut economics, an alternative economic model that outlines a vision and a path toward ecological and social sustainability.

The linear economic model consumes large amounts of energy and resources, but the limits on its physical capacity are being reached. The circular economy (CE), conversely, is reparative and regenerative; it aims to ensure that products, components, and resources maintain their usefulness and value. Tourism is a generator of wealth and employment worldwide (9.8% of world GDP and 9.1% of world employment), but it also contributes to a variety of environmental problems all over the world. Reducing the negative impacts of the practices of the tourism sector is essential. Therefore, implementing CE practices in this sector is crucial for producing changes that benefit the environment to reach the goal of sustainable development. The objective of this research was to explore the tourism sector knowledge of a CE and the actual implementation of its practices in Puerto Vallarta, and to determine companies´ willingness to design a transition to the CE. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, is a national tourist destination that ranks among the top three places in the country in terms of the number of tourist visitors, and therefore tourism is the basis of the local economy. A questionnaire was designed to collect information about attitudes and motives, which was answered by key informants from 64 tourism companies. The results show an incipient knowledge about the CE concept. However, companies conducting environmental activities, such as reducing consumption of fossil fuels and improving treatment of waste, indirectly generate a positive impact on the environment. In conclusion, Puerto Vallarta is prepared to implement the CE.
