This study aims to apply a new procedure in preparation of anthraxin fromcell wall extracts of a virulent Bacillus anthracis strain 34F2 (Sterne).Anthraxin was evaluated for potential use as skin testing agent to measurecell-mediated immunity. Guinea pigs were immunized and boostedsubcutaneously with Sterne live veterinary anthrax vaccine. Two weeks afterthe booster dose, animals were skin tested with the antigen which recorded15.6mm as a mean of erythema and 2.5 mm difference of thickness ascompared to the control. Histological changes corresponded with the delayedtype of hypersensitivity (DTH) in which the changes involvedinfiltration of inflammatory cells particularly macrophages, neutrophiles andeosinophils in the skin dermis and in perivascular region in addition toaccumulation of fluid (edema) in the dermis and congestion of blood vessels.

Background: Prophylactic extraction of the asymptomatic impacted third molar is routinely practiced in Europe and the United States. The justification for prophylactic extraction includes the need to reduce the risk of pathologic changes such as cysts and tumors.   Objectives: This study aimed to study the histological and radiological changes in the tooth follicles of upper and lower complete impacted 3rd molars -which appeared radiologically normal. Material and method: A prospective study included fifty patients aged 20 years and above who were referred to the Oral Surgery Clinic, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sana'a. Patients had follicular space between (2.5mm -3mm) as measured by the panoramic X-ray. These teeth were removed surgically and the follicle was sent for histopathological examination. Results: Most histopathological changes were in dental follicles with a size of <2.5 mm (86%), and only 14% with 2.5 mm - 3 mm. There was statistical significance between the smallest size of dental follicles with the incidence of pathological histological changes indicating a high probability of developing neoplasm (p =0.008).  Of the 50 follicular patients, 28% showed HC, nine (64%) had ameloblastoma, four (29%) had a dentigerous cyst, and only one case (7%) had a multicalcified focus with islands of odontogenic epithelium. While 72% of the samples had normal follicles and non-specific chronic inflammatory cells. There is an association between female sex and pathological histological changes (12 females: 2 males, p =0.008), age group 21-25 years (93% HC), with mandibles (65% HC). Regarding angle and histopathological changes, 36% were vertical, 29% mesioangular, 14.2% horizontal and destioangular, and 7.1% buccoangular. Conclusion:  High incidence of HC occurred in patients with DF, and it was associated with smaller dental follicle size, most HC was ameloblastoma, followed by dentigerous cyst, while 72% of samples had normal follicles and non-specific chronic inflammatory cells. There is a correlation between female gender, younger age group, and jaw position with HC. Prophylactic extraction of the asymptomatic impacted third molar should be routinely practiced in Yemen, to reduce the risk of pathological changes, especially in females and younger age groups.                            Peer Review History: Received 11 January 2021; Revised 8 February; Accepted 28 February, Available online 15 March 2021 UJPR follows the most transparent and toughest ‘Advanced OPEN peer review’ system. In order to investigate the histological changes and immunosuppression effects of diazepam in mice, forty white mice of both sexes were divided into four groups equally. 1st group was immunized twice with pasturella multocida (bacterines) with two weeks intervals. 2nd group was immunized as in the 1st group and at same time administrated orally with 0.6 mg\kg b.w of diazepam daily for 8 weeks. 3rd group was administrated with diazepam as in the 2nd group while 4th group was served as control negative group. Immunological examination revealed that the diazepam inducing depresses of the both arms of immune response, the cell mediated immunity and humeral immunity as comparing with vaccinated non-treatment animals. The pathological examination revealed that the diazepam induced large multiple granulomatous liver lesions consist form aggregation mononuclear cells particularly macrophages and lymphocytes. In addition, section of kidney showed marked inflammatory cells infiltration particularly mononuclear cells and neutrophils in the interstitial tissues was seen. In spleen there was congestion of blood vessels with mononuclear cells in their lumen and depletion of white pulp as well as proliferation of megakaryocytes, in addition to gliosis in the brain parenchyma was seen. The immunized animals showed mild pathological changes characterized by aggregation mononuclear cells around central vein in addition to proliferation of kupffer cells, Spleen show proliferation of lymphocytes in the periartiriolar sheath as well as protein aqueous materials deposition around white pulp. We concluded that diazepam induced Histological changes in the internal organs of mice and stimulated the immune response diminished its toxic effects.

The aim of study is to identify the histological changes in ovaries of the albino mice exposed to silver nanoparticles. Sixty adult females were collected and exposures by 4000 p.p.m. and 50-150 nm in size, Females were divided into 3treated groups. The concentration dosage was (1, 1.5 and 2) p.p.m. of silver nanoparticles for 7, 14 and 21 days as exposure periods as well as control group which treated by normal saline. Treated groups appeared different histopathological changes, it is depending on the concentration of silver nanoparticles and the period of exposure. These changes were included congestion in the blood vessels, hemorrhage, hyaline degeneration, fatty degeneration, pyknosis, necrosis as well as fusion of cells in follicular cells, amyloid proteins in the blood vessels and Fatty necrosis.

2-butoxyethanol, used extensively for domestic and industrial purposes, was tested in our experiments for its potential to cause damage to female rat ocular tissues. Female rats were previously found to be particularly sensitive to 2-butoxyethanol. A group of eight female F344 rats (2–3 months old) were exposed by gavage to 250 mg of 2-butoxyethanol/kg b.w. per day for 3 consecutive days and sacrificed 24 h after the last dose. Eight female rats received the dosing vehicle (water) and served as controls. At necropsy, petechial hemorrhages were noted on the sclera. Microscopic examination revealed treatmentrelated effects in the eyes, in addition to other known effects of BE exposure such as disseminated thrombosis and necrosis and infarction in various organs. The spectrum of histopathological changes noted in the eyes included hemorrhages localized in the posterior layers of the retina, leading to photoreceptor degeneration. Thrombi were identified in ciliary processes and limbal blood vessels. Histological changes suggestive of the retinal ischemic-infarctive process were also noted. Possible pathogenic mechanisms of 2-butoxyethanol-induced retinopathy are discussed.

Abstract. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of α-tocopherol supplementation at two doses (600 and 1200 mg × kg–1) on kidney antioxidant status and the histopathological changes in Wistar rats after 12 weeks of exposure at different diets. Forty rats has been divided into 4 groups of 10 rats each, the control group received basal diet with 5 % fresh sunflower oil (FSO), the second group: 5 % oxidized sunflower oil (OSO), the third group: 5 % OSO supplemented with 600 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol and the fourth group: 5 % OSO supplemented with 1200 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol. In OSO groups, the results showed highly significant increases of LPO (from 31.3 ± 0.9 to 53.8 ± 1.2 nmol of MDA formed/min/mg protein, p < 0.0001) with a significant decrease (p < = 0.001) of the antioxidant enzymatic activities (CAT, SOD, GPX, GR and G6PDH), body weight (339 ± 9 to 290 ± 3 g) and α-tocopherol levels (13.6 ± 0.6 to 6.5 ± 0.4 μg/mg protein). In OSO groups with 600 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol, an antioxidant effect was found, reflected by a return of the parameters to values similar to those of the control group. However, higher doses of α-tocopherol (1200 mg × kg–1) induced a depletion of antioxidant status, α-tocopherol levels (6.0 ± 0.3 μg/mg protein, p < 0.001) and a very highly significant rise (p < 0.0001) of LPO content (54.86 ± 0.01 nmol of MDA formed/min/mg protein). The kidney tissues also showed changes in glomerular, severe inflammatory cells infiltration, and formation of novel vessels. So, we can conclude that the oxidative stress is attenuated by a moderate administration of 600 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol, while a pro-oxidant effect occurs at 1200 mg × kg–1 α-tocopherol.

SummaryAmong the numerous existing computer-based systems for processing pathological data, none contains sufficient space for encoding data on the basic cytological or histological changes of a certain organ or tissue, upon which the final diagnosis is based. An “analytical record” was constructed listing all the basic changes that can be encountered in the various pathological conditions of the vascular wall. The data collected on the “analytical record” were coded by means of an alphanumeric code and stored in an Apple II 48 K minicomputer. The advantages of this system include the computerization of the data by non-specialized personnel and the possibility to’ quantitatively analyze the histocytopathological parameters used for diagnosis in vascular pathology. This coding system may easily be adapted, with minor modifications, to the histopathological study of other organs and tissues.

Dioctyl phthalate (DOP) commonly used as plasticizer enters into aquatic environment from the industries manufacturing plastic products, PVC resins, cosmetics and many other commercial products. Therefore, this study was designed to evaluate the acute toxicity effects of Dioctyl phthalate on fresh water fish Clarias batrachus. The 96 hour LC50 of Dioctyl phthalate in Clarias batrachus was estimated as 14.5ml/L. Histopathological changes in liver of Clarias batrachus were determined by exposing them to a fraction of LC50(1/5th) dose with every change of water for 30 days. The liver of Clarias batrachus was excised at every interval of 30 days and histological changes of liver were studied under light microscopy. Liver tissues showed abnormalities. Centrilobular vacuolation, necrosis, eccentric nuclei and enlarged nuclei, Centrilobular degeneration of hepatocytes were observed in liver tissue of fish.

Streptococci cultivated from the tonsils of thirty-two cases of poliomyelitis were used to inoculate various laboratory animals. In no case was a condition induced resembling poliomyelitis clinically or pathologically in guinea pigs, dogs, cats, rabbits, or monkeys. On the other hand, a considerable percentage of the rabbits and a smaller percentage of some of the other animals developed lesions due to streptococci. These lesions consisted of meningitis, meningo-encephalitis, abscess of the brain, arthritis, tenosynovitis, myositis, abscess of the kidney, endocarditis, pericarditis, and neuritis. No distinction in the character or frequency of the lesions could be determined between the streptococci derived from poliomyelitic patients and from other sources. Streptococci isolated from the poliomyelitic brain and spinal cord of monkeys which succumbed to inoculation with the filtered virus failed to induce in monkeys any paralysis or the characteristic histological changes of poliomyelitis. These streptococci are regarded as secondary bacterial invaders of the nervous organs. Monkeys which have recovered from infection with streptococci derived from cases of poliomyelitis are not protected from infection with the filtered virus, and their blood does not neutralize the filtered virus in vitro. We have failed to detect any etiologic or pathologic relationship between streptococci and epidemic poliomyelitis in man or true experimental poliomyelitis in the monkey.
