Movies are brilliant choices to be subjects of discourse analysis since they bear a resemblance to real-life phenomena. Lion of The Desert is one of the movies that actualizes the use of the English language as the dialogue and presents Islamic historical values as its content. Among a myriad of sub-disciplines of discourse analysis, this paper attempts to investigate speech act phenomena in the utterances of Omar Mukhtar, the main character of the movie. The discourse analysis is conducted on his utterances in order to extract the types of speech acts he employs. Primary data sources include the movie video file and its script. We execute several procedural steps of extracting the data, commencing with watching the movie while reading its script; re-watching it to identify the aspects like voice, intonation, and mimics; interpreting, and classifying the types of speech acts in accordance with the classification procedure of John R. Searle's speech act theory. The findings revealed four types of speech acts, namely, representative, directive, commissive, and expressive, being identified and classified in Mukhtar's utterances. The most frequently used type of speech act was representative, which is performed in 56 utterances, followed by a directive act which appears in 53 utterances. Commissive and expressive speech acts emerge in 9 and 7 utterances, respectively.

The knowledge of an English language is one of the crucial skills for any person in the field of sport. The multicultural diversity at international competitions and a large number of sports professionals working and competing worldwide created a bigger demand for a more adequate level of linguistic knowledge. Therefore, as a result of it, it is crucial to develop a model of learning English at the institutions of higher education where the focus will be on practicing the communication competence in the field of physical culture that would primarily be context based. This means that the learning environment and the curriculum should be organized in such a way that the students are placed in different situations where they will have real life simulations of the different situations in sport or training. The important part of this model would also be the cultural aspect of language learning which would contribute to the development of intercultural communicative competence.

Attention is paid to the methods of implementing direct and indirect speech acts of apology. It is shown that the use of an indirect speech act of apology along with a direct speech act of apology is typical of the English language. It is noted that the tendency toward the use of stable expressions observed in the English language allows us to analyze the implementation of the indirect speech act of apology with the help of linguistic corps by requesting clichéd expressions used instead of standard speech apology formulas. The description of the methods of formation of indirect speech acts is given. The conditions necessary for the implementation of these speech acts are indicated. The authors dwell on a detailed study of such a method of forming an indirect speech act of apology as reduction, since this method is the main one for an indirect apology. An overview of the main strategies for reduced apology in the English language is given. The analysis of the implementation of these strategies, which can be used individually or combined with each other depending on the context, is performed. The novelty of the study is that for the first time a detailed description of the realizations of the reduced speech act of apology based on the material of linguistic corps is given.
