The total phenolic and tannin content present in the ethanolic extracts of Murrayakoenigii twigs was estimated in this study. The ethanolic extracts of Murrayakoenigii twigs phenolic and tannin contents were measured using Folin-Ciocalteu’s method. Folin-Ciocalteu’s method. Works on the basis of oxidation and reduction reaction with single electron transfer with gallic acid and tannic acid taken as standards. The study revealed the presence of a significant amount of phenolic and tannin content in the ethanolic extracts of Murrayakoenigii twigs.

HPTLC analysis was performed to study the phenolics, flavonoids, and tannins profile of Cyathea nilgirensis Holttum, Cyathea gigantea (Wall. ex. Hook.) Holttum, and Cyathea crinita (Hook.) Copel. The maximum number of bands was observed in the ethanolic extracts of C. crinita. The phenolic bands with Rf values 0.05, 0.32, 0.43, 0.75 (quercetin), and 0.83 demonstrated their occurrence in all the three studied species of Cyathea. Flavonoids with Rf values 0.05, 0.23, 0.30, 0.43, and 0.73 showed their presence in the three studied species of Cyathea. Tannins with the Rf values 0.05, 0.09, and 0.82 determined their existence in all the three studied Cyathea species. Gallic acid was present only in C. crinita with the Rf value 0.49. The developed HPTLC profiles can be used for identification and quantitative determination of phenolics, flavonoids, and tannins. This method is also suitable for rapid screening of Cyathea species for chemotypic assessment and also for quality control purposes.

Abstract The study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity, antioxidant, toxicity and phytochemical screening of the Red Propolis Alagoas. Antimicrobial activity was evaluated by disk diffusion method. Determination of antioxidant activity was performed using the DPPH assay (1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl), FTC (ferric thiocyanate) and determination of phenolic compounds by Follin method. Toxicity was performed by the method of Artemia salina and cytotoxicity by MTT method. The phytochemical screening for the detection of allelochemicals was performed. The ethanol extract of propolis of Alagoas showed significant results for antimicrobial activity, and inhibitory activity for Staphylococcus aureus and Candida krusei. The antioxidant activity of the FTC method was 80% to 108.3% hydrogen peroxide kidnapping, the DPPH method showed an EC50 3.97 mg/mL, the content of total phenolic compounds was determined by calibration curve gallic acid, resulting from 0.0005 mg/100 g of gallic acid equivalent. The extract was non-toxic by A. salina method. The propolis extract showed high activity with a higher percentage than 75% inhibition of tumor cells OVCAR-8, SF-295 and HCT116. Chemical constituents were observed as flavonones, xanthones, flavonols, and Chalcones Auronas, Catechins and leucoanthocyanidins. It is concluded that the extract can be tested is considered a potential source of bioactive metabolites.

Objective: Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is a broadly used plant possessing a wide range of medicinal properties. In this research, we have mainly focused on the investigation of phenolic compounds of pomegranate fruit pulp (PFP).Methods: Fresh fruits of “Çəhrayı Gülöyşə,” “Kizil-anor,” and pomegranate varietal mixture were used as samples. High-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV) analysis of phenol carboxylic acids was performed with metal column Kromasil® C18 (4.6×250 mm, particle size 5 μm) and the acetonitrile-water-concentrated acid phosphoric system (400:600:5) under isocratic elution conditions (flow rate of 0.5 ml/min). Detection was carried out using a UV detector “GILSTON” UV/Visible model 151 at a wavelength of 280 nm.Results and Discussion: As a result of our research, we proposed chromatographic conditions for the separation of phenolic compounds, the conditions for sample preparation of PFP. Procedure for determination of phenolic carboxylic acids total content in terms of gallic acid by HPLC-UV method was developed. According to the obtained data, the content of phenolic carboxylic acids should be at least 0.7%.Conclusion: Procedure for the quantitative determination of gallic acid using the HPLC-UV method was developed. This method which can be used in the standardization of new medicinal plant raw materials - PFP, as well as extract preparations based on it in the future.

The present enquiry was intended to analyze the phytochemicals qualitatively and quantitatively from flowers of Spanish cherry tree. Flower powder was extracted using polar and nonpolar solvent by soxhlet apparatus. Percentage yield of crude extracts was determined and further the extracts were subjected to analyze the phytochemicals qualitatively and quantitatively by standard procedure. Qualitative analysis showed the absence of alkaloids while presences of tannins, saponins, terpenoids, steroids, glycosides, flavonoids, phenols. Quantitative estimation of phytochemicals was determined using standard curve. Result revealed that the tannin content was 4.3±0.01 (mgTAE /gm), flavanols content was 0.28±0.05 (mgQE/gm). Saponins content was 3.6±0.7 % and terpenoids content was 1.47±0.37 %. A well conducted studies on phytochemicals revealed that they are vital for humans because they provide protection against a variety of ailments. Serunai (Chromolaena odorata L.) is a medicinal plant, including the Asteraceae family. Serunai is used to treat wounds, mouthwash to treat sore throats, coughs, malaria drugs, headache medications, antidiarrheals, antimicrobials, antispasmodics, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory and diuretic agents. Serunai plants contain chemical compounds tannins, phenols, flavonoids, saponins and steroids. The purpose of this study was to determine the total phenolic content of the leaves of serunai using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. The stages of the research include plant determination, sampling, making of simplicia leaf of serunai, making extract by maceration method, phenolic compound test, determination of total phenolic levels by UV-Vis spectrophotometry with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, comparing gallic acid. The results obtained by an average of total phenolic levels of ethanol extract of serunai is 171.30368 ± 1.9694 mg GAE / g means that in every gram of ethanol extract of flattened leaves is equivalent to 171,30368 mg gallic acid.
