Plunge shaving cutter has many advantages compared with other types of shaving cutter. Without transverse motion, the shaved work gear profile is primarily affected by serration arrangement. It causes more difficult to design the cutter than others. In this study, by modeling the meshing of shaving cutter and work gear, the shaving process is simulated by Solidworks API to get the shaved work gear profile. Based on this simulation method, optimum serration design for shaving cutter is carried out to find the best serration parameters.

Abstract. Currently, traffic law enforcement agencies rely mainly on the license plate to identify illegal vehicles. But for those vehicles with no license plates or license plates are obscured or slipped, the existing techniques do not work. In this paper, a method to reconstruct the external dimensions of vehicles from 2D images is therefore proposed to identify those illegal vehicles above. The external characteristics of vehicles and methods to model vehicles are analyzed. Based on the analysis, we simplified vehicles as a combination of a rectangular parallelepiped and trapezoidal polyhedron which can be produced with corner points from 2D images. The process to establish the vehicle model with corner points is studied. Finally with Visual C++ and SolidWorks API, the 3D model of a vehicle is established based on a 2D image. The vehicle's primary outlines information including length, width and height are restored, and the information can be used to identify the vehicle.

The motion cycle chart of cam mechanisms of ATC was designed, the contour surface equation of globoidal indexing cam and the roller center trajectory equation of plane groove cam were established. Based on the idea of modular design and the SolidWorks, a CAD system of cam mechanisms of ATC was developed by using SolidWorks API and VC++ 6.0. Then the assembly model was built under the circumstance of SolidWorks directly. Meanwhile, the movement of cam mechanisms was simulated so that the reasonableness of the design was verified.

Now, plunge shaving process is becoming a common method in gearing manufacture. Serration design and parameters adjustment for shaving cutter require considerable experiences and time. By combining Visual Basic and Solidworks API, this study proposes a new method to quickly simulate the shaving process and get final work gear profile easily.

In this paper, the high-order elliptical gear design principle and methods were studied based on Solidworks API to accomplish high-order elliptical gear parametrical design, machining simulation and automatic modeling. Elliptical gear pair simulation was carried out for verification. The high-order elliptical gear modeling method proposed was to use gear hob type of envelope processing method with the advantages of being able to process concaved pitch curve of high-order elliptical gear. The idea of this design process can also be extended to other types of non-circular gear design and modeling.
