AbstractThis study presents the distribution rule of in situ stress in the northeast Sichuan basin and its relationship with fracture. Sixty-seven sets of core samples of 21 Wells from the terrigenous clastic rock formation (Shaximiao, Qianfoya, Xujiahe) and marine carbonate formation (Jialingjiang, Leikoupo, Feixianguan) in the northeast Sichuan basin were tested by acoustic emission experiment. The in situ stress variation with the depth was established and the corresponding regression analysis was done. The horizontal principal stress direction of terrigenous clastic rock formation and marine carbonate rock formation was obtained by combining the dual diameter data of 6 wells and the imaging logging data of 3 wells. The results show that the vertical stress in the northeast of Sichuan basin has a linear relationship with the depth, and there is little difference between the vertical stress and the overburden weight of rocks. The maximum and minimum horizontal principal stress and horizontal shear stress increase with the burial depth. The divergence degree of horizontal shear stress with depth greater than 3000 m is greater than that of the stratum smaller than 3000 m. The horizontal stress plays a dominant role in the northeast Sichuan basin. With the increase in depth, the influence of tectonic stress field decreases and the vertical stress increases. Impacted by Dabashan and Qinling plate tectonic movement, the direction of in situ stress in marine carbonate strata is nearly east–west. The direction of maximum horizontal principal stress in terrigenous clastic rock formation is basically northwest–southeast. The imaging logging data show that the fracture direction is consistent with the horizontal principal stress direction, and the present in situ stress direction is favorable to the secondary reconstruction of natural fractures, and the fractures keep good opening. The distribution law of in situ stress in northeast Sichuan basin shows σH > σV > σh, indicating that the fault activity in this area is dominated by strike-slip type, the tectonic stress field is dominated by horizontal tectonic stress, in addition that the stress state is conducive to reverse fault activity.

Abstract The average porosity and permeability in the developed clastic rock reservoir in Tarim oilfield in China is 22.16% and 689.85×10-3 μm2. The isolation layer thickness between water layer and oil layer is less than 2 meters. The pressure of oil layer is 0.99 g/cm3, and the pressure of bottom water layer is 1.22 g/cm3, the pressure difference between them is as bigger as 12 to 23 MPa. It is difficult to achieve the layer isolation between the water layer and oil layer. To solve the zonal isolation difficulty and reduce permeable loss risk in clastic reservoir with high porosity and permeability, matrix anti-invasion additive, self-innovate plugging ability material of slurry, self-healing slurry, open-hole packer outside the casing, design and control technology of cement slurry performance, optimizing casing centralizer location technology and displacement with high pump rate has been developed and successfully applied. The results show that: First, the additive with physical and chemical crosslinking structure matrix anti-invasion is developed. The additive has the characteristics of anti-dilution, low thixotropy, low water loss and short transition, and can seal the water layer quickly. Second, the plugging material in the slurry has a better plugging performance and could reduce the permeability of artificial core by 70-80% in the testing evaluation. Third, the self-healing cement slurry system can quickly seal the fracture and prevent the fluid from flowing, and can ensuring the long-term effective sealing of the reservoir. Fourth, By strict control of the thickening time (operation time) and consistency (20-25 Bc), the cement slurry can realize zonal isolation quickly, which has achieved the purpose of quickly sealing off the water layer and reduced the risk of permeable loss. And the casing centralizers are used to ensure that the standoff ratio of oil and water layer is above 67%. The displacement with high pump rate (2 m3/min, to ensure the annular return velocity more than 1.2 m/s) can efficiently clean the wellbore by diluting the drilling fluid and washing the mud cake, and can improve the displacement efficiency. The cementing technology has been successfully applied in 100 wells in Tarim Oilfield. The qualification rate and high quality rate is 87.9% and 69% in 2019, and achieve zone isolation. No water has been produced after the oil testing and the water content has decreased to 7% after production. With the cementing technology, we have improved zonal isolation, increased the crude oil production and increased the benefit of oil.

A stage of mafic magmatic activity occurred in Early Permian in the Dabasong Uplift of Junggar Basin, part of the magma intruded into the normal sedimentary and shallow buried fine sandstone to form diabase, and part of the magma erupted to form basalt. The surrounding fine sandstone just entered in the early diagenetic stage A when the magma intruded. The compaction of the surrounding clastic rock and rupture of a small number of clastic grains were caused by the extrusion of the magma intrusion. The presence of chemically deposited alkaline minerals such as calcite, dolomite, shortite, natural alkali, and northupite indicates an alkali lake sedimentary environment for the Fengcheng Formation. Primary alkaline minerals dissolved from the surrounding rocks were subsequently transported and precipitated to form cements. The formation of the calcite cements and calcite metasomatism resulted in considerable densification of the surrounding rock during early diagenesis and destruction of the reservoir quality. The mafic magma had abundant Fe2+ and Mg2+ ions and was deficient in K+ ions, resulting in large amounts of chlorite and iron precipitation in the surrounding rock mainly composed of clay. We have analyzed the influence of an ultrashallow intrusion on the surrounding clastic rock during the early diagenetic period, which provided a typical reference for establishing a systematic mechanistic model of how magmatic intrusions affect the surrounding rock.

Background There are contaminated by potentially toxic metal(loid)s (PTMs) that the surface soil and the weathering profiles around the indigenous zinc smelting slag piles or smelters in the smelting area. However, few systematic studies are currently focusing on the PTM distribution and migration among the slag and its bottom weathering profile. Methods This research determined the concentrations of PTMs and pH values. And we analyzed PTM distribution in the two weathering profiles (slag-covered and slag-absent) with a small horizontal distance in the clastic rock region in the smelting area. Results The soil As and Pb contents, respectively, within the 30 and 50 cm depth in the slag-covered section were higher than those in the slag-absent profile. All soil Cd and Zn contents of the slag-covered core were significantly higher than those in the slag-absent weathering section. Conclusions Compared with the slag-absent weathering section, some PTMs (i.e., As, Cd, Pb and Zn) in the bottom weathering profile were polluted by these elements in the covered slag in the clastic rock region, and their depths were influenced by the slag to varying degrees. Additionally, with time, some PTMs (especially Cd and Zn) of the slag might finally contaminate the groundwater by leaching and infiltration through its bottom weathering profile in the clastic rock region.

The present study deals with a particular clastic rock from the Montjuïc hill exploited since Roman times in Barcino (present-day Barcelona (NE Spain)). Polarized and cathodoluminescence microscopies have been used to describe the main petrographic features of Montjuïc sandstones. Several characteristic provenance markers have been identified; among them the most specifically restricted to Montjuïc sandstone are the K-feldspar clasts with authigenic overgrowths. A petrographic survey oriented to the detection of such markers has been fruitfully applied to sculptures, architectural elements, mosaics, and pottery. The petrographic approach has demonstrated that some Roman heritage materials had been erroneously assigned to Montjuïc sandstone and the revision of all the pieces macroscopically assigned to this provenance is advised. The use of Montjuïc sandstone in Roman tesserae has been reported for the first time with interesting implications on previously unreported evidence of Roman extraction at the bottom part of the Montjuïc cliff. Finally, Montjuïc crushed sandstone used as pottery temper has been also reported in the productions of a medieval (12–13th century) workshop in Barcelona. This encourages the study of the distribution of pottery with this particular temper.
