Acclimatization is the final stage of plant propagation in tissue culture techniques that can determine the success of the nursery process. This study aimed to observe the growth response during the acclimatization stage of the acid-adapted of Leucaena leucocephala Tarramba variety, which developed from tissue culture techniques. The design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with the cultivation of 11 mutant lines from tissue culture, namely M1-M11 (an acid-adapted mutant from tissue culture addition of 1 ppm IBA) and 2 controls (lamtoro broodstock without gamma irradiation) namely K0 (lamtoro broodstock resulting from tissue culture addition of 0 ppm IBA), K1 (breeding lamtoro from tissue culture addition of 1 ppm IBA). The variables observed were the level of plant viability, plant height, and number of leaves. The results showed that the acclimatization of the plant Leucaena leucocephala to tissue culture production on the M3 and M9 mutant lines gave the best response to plant morphological growth up to 5 WAP (weeks after planting). AbstractInfluenza vaccines are utilised to combat seasonal and pandemic influenza. The key to influenza vaccination currently is the availability of candidate vaccine viruses (CVVs). Ideally, CVVs reflect the antigenic characteristics of the circulating virus, which may vary depending upon the isolation method. For traditional inactivated egg-based vaccines, CVVs are isolated in embryonated chicken eggs, while for cell-culture production, CVV’s are isolated in either embryonated eggs or qualified cell lines. We compared isolation rates, growth characteristics, genetic stability and antigenicity of cell and egg CVV’s derived from the same influenza-positive human clinical respiratory samples collected from 2008–2020. Influenza virus isolation rates in MDCK33016PF cells were twice that of eggs and mutations in the HA protein were common in egg CVVs but rare in cell CVVs. These results indicate that fully cell-based influenza vaccines will improve the choice, match and potentially the effectiveness, of seasonal influenza vaccines compared to egg-based vaccines.

In line with the framework of strategic guidelines for marine aquacultures, mussel cultures have to be operated in Areas of Organized Aquaculture Development (AOAD). Forty per cent of the national mussel culture production, which is based in Chalastra (NW Gulf of Thessaloniki, part of the Thermaikos Gulf), uses pole and longline systems. Due to legislative changes, both farmers and the authorities are in the process of reforming the existing units and planning processes based on the principles of sustainability, as defined in AOAD. The aim of this study is to estimate the appropriate orientation lines on which the mussel socks are to be placed in the mussel culturing units, in relation to the direction of sea currents for optimum water circulation in AOAD. The hydro-dynamics of the Chalastra basin is mainly wind driven and affected by prevailing northerly and southerly winds during winter and summer periods, respectively. When placed perpendicular to sea currents, the socks in the mussel production lines form an obstacle. Thus, the appropriate orientation of pole and longline units based on natural current directions can comprise a useful tool for sustainable mussel cultures. The benefits arising from the application of the proposed scheme are twofold: (a) productivity through the appropriate circulation and regeneration of nutrients can be maximized and (b) the environmental impacts of mussel culture activity can be minimized, as byproducts can more easily be dispersed of and biodegraded. In the present study, two basic schemes are proposed: (a) the division of AOAD is being researched into three sub-areas for pole and long-line units respectively and (b) the placement of the shortest possible length of production lines parallel to sea currents.

Music artists and their products share attributes with other branded commodities but are rarely discussed as such. Using Hirschman's "Culture Production System" model in conjunction with literature from popular music, communication and cultural studies, this thesis considers whether music artists and their products can be considered as brands? If so, how are music brands created? To explore these questions, I present case studies of marketing materials from albums by Keane, Radiohead, U2 and Wilco. Branding reveals itself as a process that creates expectations among consumers, critics and others. Expectations can hinder artist creativity and result in increased standardization of the music product. However, brands may offer artists a level of control. This investigation has implications for all parties involved in the business of music and provides cultural industry researchers a unique way of analyzing the impact of marketing and branding on commodities while accounting for the complexities presented by the consumption of cultural goods.

Soilless substrates utilised in traditional hydroponics are often inorganic or synthetic materials, as opposed to organic substrate components utilised in other forms of soilless culture. As growers seek more precision production applications, more operations are shifting to soilless culture production for increased resource control. The standard substrate components utilised in soilless production have been well researched and engineered to fit into specific operations. Understanding the relationship between the substrate, water, and fertiliser in a container and knowing the movement within will allow for continued beneficial improvements in soilless culture and container horticulture industry. However, as we progress agricultural practices, new substrate materials optimised substrate materials must be developed. Here we present the traditional inorganic, synthetic organic materials and peat and how these components are developed, engineered, and processed.

Abstract Artemisia absinthium L. is a highly medicinal plant with a broad range of biomedical applications. A. absinthium callus cultures were established in response to bio-fabricated single NPs (Ag and Cu) or a combination of both NPs (Ag and Cu) in different ratios (1:2, 2:1, 1:3, and 3:1) along with thidiazuron (TDZ) (4 mg/L) to elicit the biomass accumulation, production of non-enzymatic compounds, antioxidative enzymes, and antioxidant activity. Silver and copper nanoparticles (Ag and Cu NPs) were synthesized using the leaves of Moringa oleifera as reducing and capping agent and further characterized through UV-Visible spectroscopy and SEM. The 30 µg/L suspension of Ag and Cu NPs (1:2, 2:1) and 4 mg/L TDZ showed 100% biomass accumulation as compared to control (86%). TDZ in combination with Ag NPs enhanced biomass in the log phases of growth kinetics. The Cu NPs alone enhanced the superoxide dismutase activity (0.56 nM/min/mg FW) and peroxidase activity (0.31 nM/min/mg FW) in callus cultures. However, the combination of Ag and Cu NPs with TDZ induced significant total phenolic (7.31 µg/g DW) and flavonoid contents (9.27 µg/g DW). Furthermore, the antioxidant activity was highest (86%) in the Ag and Cu NPs (3:1) augmented media. The present study provides the first evidence of bio-fabricated single NPs (Ag and Cu) or a combination of both NPs (Ag and Cu) in different ratios (1:2, 2:1, 1:3, and 3:1) along with TDZ (4 mg/L) on the development of callus culture, production of endogenous enzymes, non-enzymatic components, and further antioxidant activity in callus cultures of A. absinthium.
