Ensuring lasting impact of transformational teaching and learning initiatives in higher education can prove challenging. The sustainability of such initiatives may hinge on capacity building of teachers, balancing innovation and sustainability during the design process and ensuring that the story of change is shared beyond those involved in the initial transformation. Using a case study example, this concise paper discusses how a transformational teaching and learning initiative in a large Australian Business School is approaching sustainable learning design through co-design, capacity building and the dissemination of research.

A large number of criteria to model the onset of plasticity for ductile metals have been proposed by researchers in the last century. Strangely, very few researchers have tried to model the stress-induced crystalline phase transformation of Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) according to yield criteria. This paper focuses on the question: is a yield criterion originally proposed for describing the plastic behavior of metals suitable to model the “pseudoelastic” behavior of SMAs? To answer this question, two yield criteria originally proposed by the present author are used to predict the initial surface of transformation onset of two different SMAs: Cu-Al-Be and Ni-Ti alloy. The predicted initial transformation onset surfaces of the two SMAs are compared with experimental results and existing theories reported in the literature and some significant conclusions and recommendations are given.

The goal of this chapter is to explain how healing and deliverance practices were instituted in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG). The first half of this chapter examines the PCG’s initial transformation, which was driven by three factors: the decision by the leadership to introduce healing practices into the church, the creation of the Bible Study and Prayer Group to manage the afflicted within congregations, and the influence of two parachurch organizations. The second half of this chapter focuses on Catechist Ebenezer Abboah-Offei, who since 1996 has been leading Grace Presbyterian Church in Akropong, the primary site of healing and deliverance practices within the PCG. With regards to Abboah-Offei, this chapter describes how he came to teach and practise deliverance and the process by which Grace Presbyterian was established. Finally, this chapter describes the various healing and deliverance activities that occur at Grace Presbyterian Church.

We propose a framework where Fer and Wilcox expansions for the solution of differential equations are derived from two particular choices for the initial transformation that seeds the product expansion. In this scheme, intermediate expansions can also be envisaged. Recurrence formulas are developed. A new lower bound for the convergence of the Wilcox expansion is provided, as well as some applications of the results. In particular, two examples are worked out up to a high order of approximation to illustrate the behavior of the Wilcox expansion.

The paper examines the plot of initiation in the stories of the young émigré writer Yu. Felzen as a continuation of the story of the hero of his novel trilogy. In the short stories of the late 1930s, the initiation of the hero-emigrant that was reduced in the novels is found to be associated with a situation of death, provoking his personal and literary development. The plot of the story “The changes” allows correlating it with the archetypal plot of initiation: the hero, having survived a severe illness, surgery, and the departure of his beloved, seems to be moving towards gaining new consciousness, towards writing. However, considering the stories following “The changes” allows revealing the reduction of the hero’s initial transformation. The plot of the story “The repetition of the past” shows how “changes” turn out to be a “repetition” of past life situations for the hero, and he evades the existential existence. The stories “The composition” and “The figuration” confirm the conclusion about the failed initiation of the hero. The work of Russian emigrants as extras on the set of the film “The figuration” is the author’s metaphor for the fate of the Russian emigration. The author’s concept of “the repetition of the past” is the repetition of life situations in reality without being able to change anything and follow the geniuses in creative work. According to Felzen, an emigrant is doomed to adapt and repeat in the inauthentic existence of life the situations that happened to him in another culture and at a different age “The composition.” Emigration does not replace a person with another one. Neither does it form his self-sufficiency.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the Au-TiO2 catalyst in the degradation of nonylphenol polyethylene glycol (NPEG). In the first part of the study, the catalyst was synthesized and characterized. Initially, the catalyst (TiO2 Degussa P-25) was doped with gold precursor salts (HAuCl4) at different concentrations (5, 10, and 15%) and the photodeposition method with UV light. It was determined by diffuse reflectance (DF) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) that the photodeposition method was effective for the inclusion of gold particles on the surface. The catalyst band gap showed a reduction to 2.9 e.v (compared to TiO2 Degussa P-25), and it was observed that the gold-doped catalyst showed absorption in the visible light range 500 to 600 nm. The percentage of deposited gold was determined by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). In the second part of the study, various NPEG degradation experiments were performed; with the catalyst that showed the best conversion percentages of NPEG, the experimental data were analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry and TOC (total organic carbon). With these results, a carbon-based mass balance and reaction kinetics were generated using the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L–H) heterogeneous catalysis model. For the estimation of the kinetic constants, the non-linear regression of the Levenger–Marquardt algorithm was used. With these results, kinetic models of the degradation of the molecule and the generation and consumption of organic intermediate products (OIPs) were generated.

Iterative closest point (ICP) is a method commonly used to perform scan-matching and registration. To be a simple and robust algorithm, it is still computationally expensive, and it has been regarded as having a crucial challenge especially in a real-time application as used for the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) problem. For these reasons, this paper presents a new method for the acceleration of ICP with an assisted intensity. Unlike the conventional ICP, this method is proposed to reduce the computational cost and avoid divergences. An initial transformation guess is computed with an assisted intensity for their relative rigid-body transformation. Moreover, a target function is proposed to determine the best initial transformation guess based on the statistic of their spatial distances and intensity residuals. Additionally, this method is also proposed to reduce the iteration number. The Anderson acceleration is utilized for increasing the iteration speed which has better ability than the Picard iteration procedure. The proposed algorithm is operated in real time with a single core central processing unit (CPU) thread. Hence, it is suitable for the robot which has limited computation resources. To validate the novelty, this proposed method is evaluated on the SEMANTIC3D.NET benchmark dataset. According to comparative results, the proposed method is declared as having better accuracy and robustness than the conventional ICP methods.
