AbstractThis chapter provides a review of policies, strategies, and regulations in the transport sector. The narrative plays out in terms of outlining national, provincial, and local application dimensions and impacts of transport using green transport lenses. The different application scales for transport policies, strategies and regulations as enunciated through different spheres of government constitutes the main thread of the discussion. In any case, the impact and outcomes of government and non-governmental transport intervention are discussed from a green transport perspective. Complementary to this, the role and scope for norms and standards in promoting green transport policy, innovation and activities is outlined. A thematic approach is used in unpacking green transport issues with respect to transport in Limpopo province. The analysis is anchored within the green transport systems theory of innovation framework.

This research was taken from online media in the form of a speech on a YouTube channel called the English Speeches Channel featuring an inspiring woman named Muniba Mazari Baloch. She is a Pakistani artist, model, activist, motivational speaker, singer, social reformer, and television host. Her motivational speech is titled we all are Perfectly Imperfect. This research accompaniment three research questions by analyzing the types of presuppositions contained in Muniba Mazari's speech and determining the type of presupposition in his speech that comes up with the confession discourse function, then knowing how far her confessions influences her audiencess through what he delivers. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative by analyzing several utterances in her speech, through two approaches of theory pragmatic presupposition and confessional discourse analysis. The results showed that Muniba Mazari used all types of pragmatic presuppositions (Existential, Factive, Non-Factive, Lexical, Structural, and Counterfactual). Through this type of presupposition, Muniba Mazari also brings out the function of confessional discourse. The function of confessional discourse contained in her speech is a therapeutic, didactic, and interrogatory function. During the research, researchers found the main threat from the combination of these two theories is the strength of Motivational Assertion. The main threat that became the main idea as the direction of Muniba Mazari's speech in motivating her audiences. Then, this main thread also asserts how powerful Muniba Mazari's speech was. In this context, the results bring about optimism, achievable objectives, passion, and confidence. Finally, Muniba Mazari's speech entitled We Are Perfectly Imperfect which contains many moral messages can be said to be a motivational speech. It can be manifested in learning-teaching process. The result of combining these two theories produces the main thread that can be applied by several teachers in motivating their students in the learning-teaching process.

This Epilogue encapsulates the main thread of the book and reflects on the current state of US politics. In order to sustain democratic relations with our allies, we need also to sustain democratic relations with at least some of our opponents, even though we may see them as obstacles to achieving justice. Sustaining democracy with political opponents is not easy, as current conditions in the United States and elsewhere amply demonstrate. Yet this book does not attempt to provide a blueprint for saving democracy. It only aspires to demonstrate that the project of restoring democracy is in part a task within each citizen to manage psychological and cognitive forces that impede the democratic ethos.

The article is an analysis of the Hannibal series (2013–2015) made by Bryan Fuller with reference to therapeutic culture. Hannibal is presented as a manifestation of the critique of contemporary culture, which focuses on the relationship of subject and power in therapeutic culture in Western liberal societies. The main thread that has been analysed is the relationship between the main characters: Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter. The article presents the origin of therapeutic culture and the category of “psychological man” (P. Rieff). The relationship between Will and Hannibal is not a meta-image of contemporary therapeutic culture in general, but its dark face. The series shows the culture of therapy brought to its limits, where norms are not so much exceeded, but subverting. Hannibal Lecter is presented as the “ideal self” of liberal societies, an entity free from cultural norms in an absolute way. Will is opposed to him. His personality does not allow classification, just as a modern subject does not want to be classified, because it would mean pinning him to one place and making it impossible for him to develop. An important problem in the article is “coercion of change”. The “right to change” legitimised by the liberal system changes into “coercion of change” in the series. The requirement of “full life” means that standing in a place is something undesirable, live in a real way is to experience of something new, to change — even if it means a transformation into a murderer. In the end it is argued that “being yourself” is an effect of power in therapeutic culture.

A main thread in the Two Suns? series might be summed up as follows. There are several spaces or forms of space involved; territorial space, outer space, cyberspace and living space, And there is data to be found and owned in each of these spaces. That data may be processed using algorithms in each space and across all spaces. With such a thread in mind one argument in the Two Suns? series so far and going forward is as Data, Algorithms, Spaces, and Techno Feudalism follows; we should treat Big Tech as an incipient state with its own entry and exit points and its own infrastructure rather than constantly framing discussion in terms of a nation-state like the USA.  The latter may have been and may still be a host for the Algorithmic State but this is not necessarily ongoing.  Furthermore there is a range of nation states from the strong to the barely formed ranging through, say the examples of the USA, Australia and Myanmar and a varying use and influence of the algorithm within these nation states.

Abstract As the most important component of parts, thread has a great influence on the mechanical properties and service performance of parts. In order to ensure the quality of the thread, the thread quality inspection standard involves 11 main thread characteristics, of which the surface roughness of the thread is the most studied, and the research on Radial Pitch Diameter Difference (RPDD) is still blank. In this paper, a quasi-static model of the tapping process is developed based on the roundness error mechanism of the hole, which includes cutting force and cutting damping force. Due to the regenerative nature of cutting, the force on each cutting edge depends on both the tool’s current position and previous position. According to the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the discrete state-transition matrix, RPDD is finally determined, and the influence of the chamfer length and the spindle speed on RPDD is simulated by this model. The results demonstrate that the chamfer length and spindle speed will affect RPDD, and the RPDD is the smallest when the chamfer length is 2 threads and the spindle speed is 1400 rev/min. The development of this model not only provides a cheap and effective method for the study of RPDD, but also lays a foundation for further experimental research.

The dominant markup language for Web visualizations - Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) - is comparatively easy to learn, and is open, accessible, customizable via CSS, and searchable via the DOM, with easy interaction handling and debugging. Because these attributes allow visualization creators to focus on design on implementation details, tools built on top of SVG, such as D3.js, are essential to the visualization community. However, slow SVG rendering can limit designs by effectively capping the number of on-screen data points, and this can force visualization creators to switch to Canvas or WebGL. These are less flexible (e.g., no search or styling via CSS), and harder to learn.We introduce Scalable Scalable Vector Graphics (SSVG) to reduce these limitations and allow complex and smooth visualizations to be created with SVG.SSVG automatically translates interactive SVG visualizations into a dynamic virtual DOM (VDOM) to bypass the browser's slow `to specification' rendering by intercepting JavaScript function calls. De-coupling the SVG visualization specification from SVG rendering, and obtaining a dynamic VDOM, creates flexibility and opportunity for visualization system research. SSVG uses this flexibility to free up the main thread for more interactivity and renders the visualization with Canvas or WebGL on a web worker. Together, these concepts create a drop-in JavaScript library which can improve rendering performance by 3-9X with only one line of code added.To demonstrate applicability, we describe the use of SSVG on multiple example visualizations including published visualization research. This paper aims to design an online, low-latency, and high-performance speech recognition system using a bidirectional long short-term memory (BLSTM) acoustic model. To achieve this, we adopt a server-client model and a context-sensitive-chunk-based approach. The speech recognition server manages a main thread and a decoder thread for each client and one worker thread. The main thread communicates with the connected client, extracts speech features, and buffers the features. The decoder thread performs speech recognition, including the proposed multichannel parallel acoustic score computation of a BLSTM acoustic model, the proposed deep neural network-based voice activity detector, and Viterbi decoding. The proposed acoustic score computation method estimates the acoustic scores of a context-sensitive-chunk BLSTM acoustic model for the batched speech features from concurrent clients, using the worker thread. The proposed deep neural network-based voice activity detector detects short pauses in the utterance to reduce response latency, while the user utters long sentences. From the experiments of Korean speech recognition, the number of concurrent clients is increased from 22 to 44 using the proposed acoustic score computation. When combined with the frame skipping method, the number is further increased up to 59 clients with a small accuracy degradation. Moreover, the average user-perceived latency is reduced from 11.71 s to 3.09–5.41 s by using the proposed deep neural network-based voice activity detector.

AbstractIn order to study the strength of the proposed rope threaded joint for machine parts made of reinforced composite materials, a modeling of a stress-strain state was conducted using the software of finite-element analysis LS-DYNA. Stress-strain state modeling was conducted for a rope threaded joint, affecting on the main performance parameters considered to be p – thread pitch (p = 4 mm), and t – thread depth (t = 1 mm). The main thread parameters taken for the model were up to the metric thread М6 (ISO 724:1993) parameters.
