The present study described the effect of shot peening on mechanical properties and rotating corrosion –fatigue behavior (strength and life) of AA6061-T6. Ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and yield stress (YS) were reduced by 4.6% and 1.24% when immersing the tensile samples in crude oil for 60 days. The values of (UTS) and (YS) were raised from 307 to 316 MPa and from 248 to 254 MPa respectively when treated for 10 min. shot peening (SP). Hardness of oil corrosion samples dropped due to pitting corrosion and slightly raised for SP prior to corrosion samples. Oil corrosion reduced the fatigue strength by (-1.25%). This percentage was enhanced due to SP to 2.377%. SP significantly increased the rotating fatigue life by a factor of 1.19 and 1.3 at (UTS) and (Ys) loads respectively. (SP) technique improved corrosion-fatigue resistance due to producing compressive residual stresses at surface layers.

This work was devoted to the material-scale study of the mechanical behavior of confined concrete by composite materials based on carbon fiber and glass under compression and bending loading. In this context, an experimental work on cylindrical and prismatic concrete specimens has been carried out. The obtained results permitted the identification of the mechanical behavior, strength, deformability and failure modes. The outcome of the present research indicates an increase in the bearing capacity and deformability in compression and in tension. The reinforcement by means of composite materials appears as a pertinent solution and therefore, makes it possible to obtain clear indication on the type of confinement to be considered according to the intended purpose.

This paper presents the application of Motivation/Attitude-driven Behavior (MADB) model proposed by Wang (Wang, 2007a) in the e-learning context. The authors' work demonstrates how mathematical models and formal cognitive processes is developed based on menu search task. The effects of menu design on stress perceptions, motivation and attitudes during the search tasks are being examined. The correlations between emotion (stress perception), motivation, attitude, decision, behavior and mouse behavior are studied. The authors' findings are consistent with what was proposed by Wang. They also found that behavior is significantly correlated to mouse dynamics, such as mouse speed, mouse idle duration and mouse left click rate. Generally strong behavior strength results in slower mouse movements. The significant effect of behavior on mouse dynamics may be caused by motivation and decision, but not attitude and stress perception.

Abstract A study was undertaken to examine growing cumulus clouds using 1-min time resolution Super Rapid Scan Operations for Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-R (GOES-R) (SRSOR) imagery to diagnose in-cloud processes from cloud-top information. SRSOR data were collected using GOES-14 for events in 2012–14. Use of 1-min resolution SRSOR observations of rapidly changing scenes provides far more insights into cloud processes as compared to when present-day 5–15-min time resolution GOES data are used. For midday times on five days, cloud-top temperatures were cataloged for 71 cumulus clouds as they grew to possess anvils and often overshooting cloud tops, which occurred over 33–152-min time periods. Characteristics of the SRSOR-observed updrafts were examined individually, on a per day basis, and collectively, to reveal unique aspects of updraft behavior, strength, and acceleration as related to the ambient stability profile and cloud-top glaciation. A conclusion is that the 1-min observations capture two specific cumulus cloud growth periods, less rapid cloud growth between the level of free convection and the 0°C isotherm level, followed by more rapid growth shortly after the time of cloud-top glaciation. High correlation is found between estimated vertical motion (w) and the amount of convective available potential energy (CAPE) realized to the cloud-top level as clouds grew, which suggests that updrafts were responding to the local buoyancy quite strongly. Influences of the environmental buoyancy profile shape and evidence of entrainment on cloud growth are also found through these SRSOR data analyses.

In order to characterize the toxic response of zebra fish (Danio rerio) to Deltamethrin (DM), behavior strength (BS) and muscle AChE activity of zebra fish were investigated. The results showed that the average values of both BS and AChE activity showed a similarly decreased tendency as DM concentration increased, which confirmed the dose-effect relationship, and high and low levels of AChE and BS partly matched low and high levels of exposure concentrations in self-organizing map. These indicated that AChE and BS had slight different aspects of toxicity although overall trend was similar. Behavior activity suggested a possibility of reviving circadian rhythm in test organisms after exposure to the chemical in lower concentration (0.1 TU). This type of rhythm disappeared in higher concentrations (1.0 TU and 2.0 TU). Time series trend analysis of BS and AChE showed an evident time delayed effect of AChE, and a 2 h AChE inhibition delay with higher correlation coefficients (r) in different treatments was observed. It was confirmed that muscle AChE inhibition of zebra fish is a factor for swimming behavior change, though there was a 2 h delay, and other factors should be investigated to illustrate the detailed behavior response mechanism.
