Strength interactions of finger joints and truss plate joints in light wood trusses

This study examined two questionable aspects of using truss plates together with finger-joined wood truss members, namely the possible strength reductions in either the truss plate joint or the member. The lumber was kiln-dried No. 2 grade spruce–pine–fir. The finger joints were "horizontal" and glued with a phenol resorcinol adhesive. Project A dealt with the strength of truss plate joints; in this project, truss plate joints were tested in tension on both faces of 38 × 64 mm lumber and on the 89 mm face of 38 × 89 mm lumber, and both parallel and perpendicular to grain loading. Project B examined the effect of truss plates on the tensile and flexural strengths of finger-joined lumber. Specimens waisted to 38 × 38 mm containing truss plates pressed into both faces of the finger joints were tested in tension parallel to grain, whereas specimens of 38 × 89 mm also containing plates in both faces were tested in bending about both weak and strong axes.The statistical analysis indicated no reduction in strength for the ten-replication tests in both projects A and B. However, the test results suggest that there is a possible inherent weakness associated with the plug-shear failures in project A and the failures at the last row of the plate teeth in project B. The implications of these results on the design of truss plate joints have been adopted by the CSA Technical Committee on Engineering Design in Wood.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah motivasi, kedisiplinan berpengaruh terhadap perilaku kerja, apakah motivasi dan kedisiplinan berpengaruh terhadap prestasi kerja, apakah perilaku kerja berpengaruh terhadap prestasi kerja, apakah motivasi berpengaruh terhadap prestasi kerja pegawai melalui perilaku kerja, serta apakah kedisiplinan berpengaruh terhadap prestasi kerja pegawai melalui perilaku kerja pada DKIPS Provinsi Sulawesi Barat. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, interview dan dokumentasi serta kuesioner. Sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis statistic deskriptif, statistik infe-rensial, PLS (Partial Least Square), pengujian hipotesis. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa motivasi kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap perilaku kerja, Kedisiplinan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap perilaku kerja, Motivasi kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap prestasi kerja, Kedisiplinan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap prestasi kerja pegawai, Perilaku kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap prestasi kerja pegawai, hasil uji mediasi menunjukkan bahwa perilaku kerja dapat memediasi motivasi kerja terhadap prestasi kerja pegawai pada DKIPS Provinsi Sulawesi Barat, serta hasil uji mediasi menunjukkan bahwa perilaku kerja dapat memediasi disiplin kerja terhadap prestasi kerja pegawai pada DKIPS Provinsi Sulawesi Barat. This study aims to determine whether motivation, discipline affect work behavior, do motivation and discipline affect work performance, does work behavior affect work performance, does motivation affect employee performance through work behavior, and does discipline affect work performance through work behavior in West Sulawesi Province DKIPS. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation and questionnaires. While the data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical analysis, inferential statistics, PLS (Partial Least Square), hypothesis testing. The results found that work motivation has a positive and significant effect on work behavior, the discipline has a positive and significant effect on work behavior, work motivation has a positive and significant effect on work performance, the discipline has a positive and significant effect on employee work performance, work behavior has a positive and significant effect on employee work performance, mediation test results indicate that work behavior can mediate work motivation on employee work performance in DKIPS Province of West Sulawesi, and mediation test results indicate that work behavior can mediate work discipline towards employee work performance at DKIPS Province of West Sulawesi.

This study aimed to determine: (1) how was the design of character building by learning mathematics, and (2) whether the character building by learning mathematics could produce better learning outcome of mathematics than conventional mathematics learning.To answer these two questions, I used Research and Development ( R & D ) which consists of a preliminary study to obtain preliminary data on student learning outcomes before being given treatments of character building by learning mathematics. The next phase is the design of the character building by learning mathematics. Further testing and revision in class and repeated until it found the best learning model. From the first problem formulation, qualitative data analysis, such as the design of character building in learning mathematics was produced. The results of the qualitative analysis shows, character building by learning mathematics was quite effectively applied to implant positive character in students. To answer the second question, statistical analysis was used. The population in this study was all students of class VII of MTsN in Buaran of Pekalongan which totaled 220. By random cluster sampling technique two classes (a class VII A and VII B) was chosen. Class VII A was as an experiment class, and class VII B was as a control class. Data were taken by the test method, experimental classroom observation, and documentation. The data was then processed with an average difference test. Results of statistical analysis obtained t = 3.33 > t table = 1.67. This meant that learning achievement of the students in the experimental class, which was implemented character education in mathematics was better than the students who were taught by conventional methods. Based on these results, it could be conclude that the character building in mathematics was better than the conventional method of learning mathematics.

In the present work, a comprehensive statistical analysis was performed to evaluate the potential application of peel of local fruits from Malang, i.e. mangosteen, honey pineapple and red dragon fruits for natural yellow coloring agents. The yellow pigments from those fruit peels were extracted through a simple maceration method using distilled water, acetone and ethanol as the solvents. The CIE color space of the extracts was measured to obtain L*, a* and b* values. The obtained data were further analyzed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and Duncan Test to determine the most potent natural yellow coloring agent. All the extracts were appeared as mild to strong yellow liquid except for acetone extract for the peel of red dragon fruit extracts. From the CIE color space and PCA analysis, either ethanolic or acetone extracts of mangosteen appears as a strong yellow liquid and they are statistically not different. Interestingly, the MANOVA and Duncan test results are able to distinguish that the ethanolic extract of mangosteens’ peel as the best candidate for natural yellow coloring agents because of its lowest L* and also highest b* variable values.

This paper presents test reliablity of Uster AFIS for impurity test by calculating the Reliable Test Time (hereinafter referred to as RTT) and CV% of test results. The CV% value of test results of impurity-related parameters in card sliver obtained in 8 experiments totally with 313 different plans were calculated. By statistical analysis method, the reliable test time of AFIS for some impurity-related parameters was estimated. It is concluded that the impurity result obtained by 10-time tests with AFIS was inaccurate. The reasons for this are that the sample weight is too small, the impurity is unevenly distributed and the impurity in card sliver may have some loss in the manually-sampling process.

The aim of this study was to determine the condition of activated sludge in the biologic reactor located in the collective wastewater treatment plant in Nowy Targ (Poland) based on OUR tests in the aspect of the impact of sludge’s concentration in the biologic reactor and dependence of BOD5/TN and BOD5/TP in wastewater flowing into the biologic reactor. The analysis was conducted based on test results from 61 samples of activated sludge taken from the biologic reactor and 61 samples of wastewater flowing into the biologic reactor. The analysis included the concentration of sludge in the biologic reactor. The following indicators were analyzed in wastewater flowing into the reactor: biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP). The statistical analysis concerning the impact of the analyzed factors on oxygen uptake rate (OUR) tests was developed based on the Pearson’s correlation coefficient and partial correlation of many variables. Based on the results of the partial correlation analysis, nomograms were developed to determine the condition of activated sludge microorganisms (OUR) based on the BOD5/TN and BOD5/TP connection and knowledge of the sludge concentration in the bioreactor of the treatment plant. The presented nomograms can be formulated for each bioreactor based on activated sludge technology related the load of organic and biogenic pollutants in the wastewater flowing into the bioreactor and the concentration of the sludge in the bioreactor.

The decrease of strength after saturation of rocks is known as moisture-induced softening. To date, there are numerous studies on the mechanism of moisture-induced softening of different rocks. However, due to a lack of effective observational methods, the microcosmic mechanism of moisture-induced softening still needs to be understood. We collected and processed acoustic emission (AE) signals during the uniaxial compression test of marble specimens. The results of spectral and statistical analysis show that two dominant frequency bands of AE waveforms exist regardless of the specimen’s water content. Additionally, for the AE signals from the saturated specimens, the ranges of the low and high frequency bands are wider than dried rock samples. Besides, since the tensile and shear failures in the rock release low and high dominant frequency AE signals, respectively, the test results of this paper show that micro-shear and micro-tensile failures dominate the final failure of dried and saturated rocks, respectively.

Objective: Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride tablets which are not extended-release will produce non-constant drug levels in the blood. This study aimed to overcome this problem by making ciprofloxacin hydrochloride extended-release tablets with a combination of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) K100M and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) K4M by a direct compression method. Methods: The method in this study consisted of preformulation, formula design, manufacture of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride tablets, tablet print mass testing, IPC (In-Process Control) slow-release tablet mass print, IPC (In-Process Control) quality of slow-release tablet preparation, dissolution test, and statistical analysis. Preformulation was carried out aiming to determine the physical and chemical properties of active-excipient substances based on a certificate of analysis. This was done using a Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Five kinds of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride tablet formulations were made using the direct pressing method with variations in the concentration of HPMC K100M and HPMC K4M. The ratio of percentage of HPMC K100M and HPMC K4M were F1 0,5%: 1%, F2 1%: 0,5%, F3 0,75%: 0,75%, F4 1%: 0%, F5 0%: 3%. Evaluation of tablet preparations (IPC control) included weight uniformity test, size uniformity test, hardness test, and friability test. The dissolution test was carried out for 2 h by hydrochloride acid 0,1 N pH 1.2 as (pH of gastric acid). Statistical analysis using Perfect Block Random Design (PBRD) method and further testing using the Newman-Keuls test was applied for the data obtained. Results: The test results with FTIR showed that ciprofloxacin hydrochloride used compared to ciprofloxacin hydrochloride BPFI is equivalent and has a purity index of 0.992739. Determination of the level of the active ingredient ciprofloxacin hydrochloride was carried out by measuring the absorbance of a 5 ppm sample solution at a wavelength of 276 nm. The percentage of absorbance of the solution is then calculated and the result obtained is 98.87%. The range of levels that have been set is 98%-102%. These test results were under those listed on the certificate of analysis. The results of the IPC test in the form of weight uniformity test, size uniformity test, hardness test, friability test, and uniformity of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride levels in the preparation, showed all data obtained fulfilling the requirements set by USP 36 convention (2013). The result from dissolution tablet test on 30, 60, and 120 min showed the release of active substance on F1 56.00 %, 67.76 %, and 87.57 %. F2 were 53.42 %, 65.16 %, and 91.44 %. F3 were 59.18 %, 72.15 %, and 91.20 %. F4 were 50.51 %, 70.70 %, and 95.29 %. F5 were 53.75 %, 69.55 %, and 92.05 %. Statistical analysis was applied for the data obtained. Dissolution results illustrated the level of active substances dissolved in the dissolution medium for 2 h or in other words the dissolution test results indicated the number of active substances from tablets that were released and enter the digestive tract and came in contact with body fluids. Conclusion: The dissolution test results as a basis of extended-release tablets showed all of the formulae met dissolution requirements of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) 36 convention.

The paper describes the results of an experiment performed as part of the GAČR 13-18870S project dealing with the durability characteristics of the surface layer of hardened concrete. The paper aims to evaluate the experimental determination of the influence of an air entraining additive on the resistance of cement concrete to water and defrosting chemicals. For the purposes of the experiment 4 mixtures were prepared which differed in the amount of air entraining additive and the amount of cement. The test results were evaluated using statistical analysis of experiment.
