PurposeThe Netherlands' national government (Rijksoverheid) is an example of a large public organization that strives to recruit and retain employees from different cultural groups, and aims to reap the benefits of workplace diversity. Research has shown that a major predictor of the effectiveness of diversity policy and interventions is the diversity perspective of employees, i.e. which outcomes they associate with cultural diversity in their work environment.Design/methodology/approachThe present study compares public servants' diversity perspectives in two similar independent samples, from 2008 (n = 1,617) and 2018 (n = 2,024), using the Benefits and Threats of Diversity Scale (BTDS; Hofhuis et al., 2015).FindingsResults show that in 2018, employees of the Netherlands' national government perceived more benefits of diversity for gaining insight about and access to different groups within society. Additionally, contributions of cultural diversity to creativity and innovation within teams are reported significantly more often in 2018 than in 2008.Originality/valueThe findings may be of interest to diversity scholars, since data on changes in cultural diversity perspectives across time are rare, and the paper provides a unique comparison of measurements at two time points, one decade apart, within the same organization.

 The problem of premature professional burnout among employees, including firefighters is of scientific and practical significance. The article describes the nature and types of professional stress, as well as activities of the Training Center of the Federal Fire Service in Chelyabinsk Region. It aims to identify guidelines in the normative labor functions of rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and firefighters for training programs to prepare fire service employees for stressful activities. To achieve this goal, labor functions of rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and firefighters were analyzed; training programs developed by the Training Center of the Federal Fire Service in Chelyabinsk region were assessed. The methods of comparative analysis and conversation with experts were used to identify pedagogical aspects of labor functions of fire service employees associated with their willingness to work under stress. The article established a relationship between the training programs and the development of readiness to perform labor functions under stress. The condition required for the training program to be efficient was determined. It involves attracting the psychological service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to hold methodical meetings and seminars. The positive result of this training is an adequate response to stress factors. The research results may be used by teachers of training centers and universities and methodologists.

The article examines the set of tools that China is using to expand its influence in Kyrgyzstan’s security sphere and the relationship of these actions to Russia’s traditional role in the region. Through in-depth interviews with experts in the military field, the authors conclude that Beijing is gradually ‘maximising power’ in relation to Russia, which still occupies a leading position in Central Asia (including education and the supply of weapons), in a manner that is non-aggressive and covert. These actions are reflected in the non-institutionalised nature of China’s interactions with countries in the region, which are more beneficial, in contrast, to institutionalised mechanisms. Beijing is betting on its ‘safe city’ system in Central Asia, which will allow the country to solve its own internal problems (Uyghur separatism, terrorism) while also strengthening Chinese influence in the security sphere by permitting it access to the data of Kyrgyz citizens and by making Kyrgyzstan more financially dependent on China; its educational programs for security service employees in Central Asia, which will, in turn, prepare the ground for the legalisation of the activities of Chinese PMCs (military contractors or ‘private military companies’).

  The purposes of this research are (1) to find out whether there is an organizational culture that affects the performance of firefighters in Bekasi (2) to find out whether performance discipline affects the performance of firefighters in Bekasi (3) to find out whether organizational culture and discipline Work affects the Performance of Fire Service Employees in the City of Bekasi. The population in this study was 650 firefighters in Bekasi City?. The sample in this study was 86 respondents. The analytical tool in this study was the tool-assisted by the SPSS version 17 program. Based on the results of the study simultaneously the independent variables (Organizational Culture and Work Discipline) had a positive and significant effect on the Performance of the Fire Service Employees in Bekasi City. Ha, which reads that there is a significant influence between Organizational Culture (X1) and Work Discipline (X2) on Employee Performance (Y) is accepted. While Ho reads that there is no significant effect between Organizational Culture (X1) and Work Discipline (X2) on Employee Performance (Y) is rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that the third hypothesis Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means that there is a significant influence of Organizational Culture (X1) and Work Discipline (X2) on the Performance of Fire Service Employees in Bekasi City. Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) Untuk mengetahui apakah Budaya Organisasi berpengaruh terhadap Kinerja Pegawai Dinas Pemadam Kebakaran di Kota Bekasi (2) Untuk mengetahui apakah Disiplin Kinerja berpengaruh terhadap Kinerja Pegawai Dinas Pemadam Kebakaran di Kota Bekasi (3) Untuk mengetahui apakah Budaya Organisasi dan Disiplin Kerja berpengaruh terhadap Kinerja Pegawai Dinas Pemadam Kebakaran di Kota Bekasi. Adapun populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah 650 pegawai Pemadam Kebakaran di Kota Bekasi?. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 86 responden, Alat analisis dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan alat dibantu program SPSS versi 17. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian secara serempak variable independen (Budaya Organisasi dan Disiplin Kerja) berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap Kinerja Pegawai Dinas Pemadam Kebakaran di Kota Bekasi. Ha yang berbunyi ada pengaruh yang signifikan antara Budaya Organisasi (X1) dan Disiplin Kerja (X2) terhadap Kinerja Pegawai (Y) diterima. Sedangkan Ho yang berbunyi tidak ada pengaruh yang signifikan antara Budaya Organisasi (X1) dan Disiplin Kerja (X2) terhadap Kinerja Pegawai (Y) ditolak. Dengan demikian maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa hipotesis ketiga Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima yang berarti terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari Budaya Organisasi (X1) dan Disiplin Kerja (X2) terhadap Kinerja Pegawai Dinas Pemadam Kebakaran di Kota Bekasi.

ABSTRAK Karyawan Perusahaan dapat berinteraksi dengan pelanggan , sehingga kinerja karyawan yang memberikan layanan adalah kunci kepuasan pelanggan. Gambar Perusahaan ditampilkan sebagai Layanan untuk Layanan Karyawan Pelanggan. Survei ini menggunakan survei kuantitatif yang berpengaruh untuk mengetahui pengaruh kinerja karyawan terhadap kepuasan pelanggan di PT.Prima Megah Irsa. Metode pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah random sampling. Sampel yang dikumpulkan dalam penelitian ini adalah pelanggan PT Prima Megah Irsa , diantaranya berada di Jalan Krikilan No 146 Ds. Krikilan RT. 013 RW. 005 kec. Driyorejo Kab. Gresik, sampel untuk survei ini adalah - 130 orang. Berdasarkan hasil analisis regresi berganda, uji korelasi kinerja-kepuasan karyawan menunjukkan R = 0,856. Juga pada uji korelasi antara kinerja karyawan dengan loyalitas pelanggan, R = 0,602. Maka didapat persamaan regresi berganda = Y = 4.408 + 2.713y + 1.064z. Model Koefisien Regresi ini berarti . Z) Meningkat 1.064. ABSTRACT Company employees can interact with customers, so the performance of employees who provide services is the key to customer satisfaction. Company Images are displayed as a Service for Customer Service Employees. This survey uses an influential quantitative survey to determine the effect of employee performance on customer satisfaction at PT.Prima Megah Irsa. The sampling method used is random sampling. The samples collected in this study were customers of PT Prima Megah Irsa, including those on Jalan Krikilan No 146 Ds. Krikilan  RT. 013 RW. 005 district. Driyorejo Kab. Gresik, the sample for this survey is - 130 people. Based on multiple regression analysis, the performance-satisfaction correlation test showed R = 0.856. Also on the correlation test between employee performance and customer loyalty, R = 0.602. Then the multiple regression equation is obtained = Y = 4.408 + 2.713y + 1.064z. This Regression Coefficient Model means . Z) Increase by 1,064.

<p>Work engagement is still an interesting topic to research until now, because employees are an important aspect to ensure the organization can develop or not. Therefore, the organization start paying more attention to humans as human capital to be managed seriously. Research on work engagement in the public sector has attracted quite a lot of attention. Public service employees have different characteristics from other sector employees, both from work patterns and from the work environment. Several research results show that work engagement is heavily influenced by internal factors, but external factors also have an important role in influencing employee work engagement.</p>

Abstract Through the lens of the multinational staff of the Chinese Maritime Customs Service (CMCS), this article argues that a technocratic programme of reconstruction evolved in the Nationalist government's wartime efforts on post-war planning, which refashioned a cadre of foreign (semi-)colonial-era experts into technocrats serving a sovereign state. This episode, in which the weakened Customs Service reclaimed its significance for the Chinese state, occurred in China's wartime capital, Chongqing. After the abrogation of the so-called ‘unequal treaties’ with foreign powers in January 1943, China entered a post-treaty era, and the question of retaining long-serving foreign Customs Service employees perplexed Nationalist leaders. Eventually, China's huge post-war need for foreign expertise, networks, and imports led to a moderate staff reorganization of the CMCS, with foreign technocrats being kept on and other bureaucrats either shifted to advisory positions or being forced to retire. Technical expertise provided a new guise for the European and American presence in post-imperialist China. Taking the rehabilitation of coastal lighthouses as an example, this article demonstrates the significance of foreign technocrats to the Chinese state during the last phase of the Sino-Japanese War and in its immediate aftermath. In showing the ambition and preparations of the Nationalist government for a post-war era, this article corrects a narrative of an all-out collapse of the Nationalist government from the mid-1940s. The wartime evolution of the Customs Service further highlights the growing importance of technocrats in the decolonizing world.

AbstractCovid-19 has disrupted global markets, accelerated the digital transformation of frontline service, and changed how service organisations, frontline service employees, and consumers interact. This article explores how digitalisation is changing retail service work from a postdigital perspective. The article draws on an ethnography of salespeople’s service encounters in speciality chain stores between July 2015 and August 2021. Using a practice theory framework (the theory of practice architectures), the article explores what conditions form salespeople’s service encounters in connected stores and how retail organisations’ digitalisation of frontline service changes salespeople’s practice of service encounters. The contributions of this article to the ongoing debate over the digitalisation of service work are twofold. On the theoretical plane, the article provides an alternative framework to labour process theory for exploring and describing service work organised around digital technologies. Secondly, it uncovers the conditions that are changing salespeople’s practice of service encounters, along with attributes associated with service work and emotional labour skills. The research shows that the connected service encounter is characterised by postdigital dialogue that involves new roles and skills in frontline service work. Overall, the findings contribute to a better understanding of how digitalisation changes action and interaction in service encounters from an employee perspective.

This study aims to analyze the influence of spiritual intelligence and OCB on employee performance at the Denpasar City Social Service. The research population used were all 106 employees who were also used as research respondents. Data was collected using research questionnaires and distributed directly to the Denpasar City Social Service employees. The collected data is then processed with the SmartPLS 3.0 application program. The results showed that spiritual intelligence and OCB had a significant positive effect on employee performance. Spiritual intelligence also shows a significant positive effect on OCB. Furthermore, OCB acts as a partial mediation on the relationship of spiritual intelligence to the performance of Denpasar City Social Service employees. The dominant indicators that contribute to the spiritual intelligence of employees are self-knowledge, focus and contribution, and honesty. More specifically, it can be explained that self-knowledge, a better level of focus and higher honesty will be able to increase employee OCB. While the indicators of the dominant OCB variable in this case are civic virtue (responsibility) and sportsmanship (tolerance). This means that the higher the civic virtue (responsibility) and sportsmanship (tolerance) the employee will be able to improve the employee's performance.
