This study aims to solve the overfitting problem caused by insufficient labeled images in the automatic image annotation field. We propose a transfer learning model called CNN-2L that incorporates the label localization strategy described in this study. The model consists of an InceptionV3 network pretrained on the ImageNet dataset and a label localization algorithm. First, the pretrained InceptionV3 network extracts features from the target dataset that are used to train a specific classifier and fine-tune the entire network to obtain an optimal model. Then, the obtained model is used to derive the probabilities of the predicted labels. For this purpose, we introduce a squeeze and excitation (SE) module into the network architecture that augments the useful feature information, inhibits useless feature information, and conducts feature reweighting. Next, we perform label localization to obtain the label probabilities and determine the final label set for each image. During this process, the number of labels must be determined. The optimal K value is obtained experimentally and used to determine the number of predicted labels, thereby solving the empty label set problem that occurs when the predicted label values of images are below a fixed threshold. Experiments on the Corel5k multilabel image dataset verify that CNN-2L improves the labeling precision by 18% and 15% compared with the traditional multiple-Bernoulli relevance model (MBRM) and joint equal contribution (JEC) algorithms, respectively, and it improves the recall by 6% compared with JEC. Additionally, it improves the precision by 20% and 11% compared with the deep learning methods Weight-KNN and adaptive hypergraph learning (AHL), respectively. Although CNN-2L fails to improve the recall compared with the semantic extension model (SEM), it improves the comprehensive index of the F1 value by 1%. The experimental results reveal that the proposed transfer learning model based on a label localization strategy is effective for automatic image annotation and substantially boosts the multilabel image annotation performance.

Crime prediction is crucial for public safety and resource optimization, yet is very challenging due to two aspects: i) the dynamics of criminal patterns across time and space, crime events are distributed unevenly on both spatial and temporal domains; ii) time-evolving dependencies between different types of crimes (e.g., Theft, Robbery, Assault, Damage) which reveal fine-grained semantics of crimes. To tackle these challenges, we propose Spatial-Temporal Sequential Hypergraph Network (ST-SHN) to collectively encode complex crime spatial-temporal patterns as well as the underlying category-wise crime semantic relationships. In specific, to handle spatial-temporal dynamics under the long-range and global context, we design a graph-structured message passing architecture with the integration of the hypergraph learning paradigm. To capture category-wise crime heterogeneous relations in a dynamic environment, we introduce a multi-channel routing mechanism to learn the time-evolving structural dependency across crime types. We conduct extensive experiments on two real-word datasets, showing that our proposed ST-SHN framework can significantly improve the prediction performance as compared to various state-of-the-art baselines. Low-rank representation with hypergraph regularization has achieved great success in hyperspectral imagery, which can explore global structure, and further incorporate local information. Existing hypergraph learning methods only construct the hypergraph by a fixed similarity matrix or are adaptively optimal in original feature space; they do not update the hypergraph in subspace-dimensionality. In addition, the clustering performance obtained by the existing k-means-based clustering methods is unstable as the k-means method is sensitive to the initialization of the cluster centers. In order to address these issues, we propose a novel unified low-rank subspace clustering method with dynamic hypergraph for hyperspectral images (HSIs). In our method, the hypergraph is adaptively learned from the low-rank subspace feature, which can capture a more complex manifold structure effectively. In addition, we introduce a rotation matrix to simultaneously learn continuous and discrete clustering labels without any relaxing information loss. The unified model jointly learns the hypergraph and the discrete clustering labels, in which the subspace feature is adaptively learned by considering the optimal dynamic hypergraph with the self-taught property. The experimental results on real HSIs show that the proposed methods can achieve better performance compared to eight state-of-the-art clustering methods.

Abstract Background MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been confirmed to have close relationship with various human complex diseases. The identification of disease-related miRNAs provides great insights into the underlying pathogenesis of diseases. However, it is still a big challenge to identify which miRNAs are related to diseases. As experimental methods are in general expensive and time‐consuming, it is important to develop efficient computational models to discover potential miRNA-disease associations. Methods This study presents a novel prediction method called HFHLMDA, which is based on high-dimensionality features and hypergraph learning, to reveal the association between diseases and miRNAs. Firstly, the miRNA functional similarity and the disease semantic similarity are integrated to form an informative high-dimensionality feature vector. Then, a hypergraph is constructed by the K-Nearest-Neighbor (KNN) method, in which each miRNA-disease pair and its k most relevant neighbors are linked as one hyperedge to represent the complex relationships among miRNA-disease pairs. Finally, the hypergraph learning model is designed to learn the projection matrix which is used to calculate uncertain miRNA-disease association score. Result Compared with four state-of-the-art computational models, HFHLMDA achieved best results of 92.09% and 91.87% in leave-one-out cross validation and fivefold cross validation, respectively. Moreover, in case studies on Esophageal neoplasms, Hepatocellular Carcinoma, Breast Neoplasms, 90%, 98%, and 96% of the top 50 predictions have been manually confirmed by previous experimental studies. Conclusion MiRNAs have complex connections with many human diseases. In this study, we proposed a novel computational model to predict the underlying miRNA-disease associations. All results show that the proposed method is effective for miRNA–disease association predication.

Vehicle reidentification refers to the mission of matching vehicles across nonoverlapping cameras, which is one of the critical problems of the intelligent transportation system. Due to the resemblance of the appearance of the vehicles on road, traditional methods could not perform well on vehicles with high similarity. In this paper, we utilize hypergraph representation to integrate image features and tackle the issue of vehicles re-ID via hypergraph learning algorithms. A feature descriptor can only extract features from a single aspect. To merge multiple feature descriptors, an efficient and appropriate representation is particularly necessary, and a hypergraph is naturally suitable for modeling high-order relationships. In addition, the spatiotemporal correlation of traffic status between cameras is the constraint beyond the image, which can greatly improve the re-ID accuracy of different vehicles with similar appearances. The method proposed in this paper uses hypergraph optimization to learn about the similarity between the query image and images in the library. By using the pair and higher-order relationship between query objects and image library, the similarity measurement method is improved compared to direct matching. The experiments conducted on the image library constructed in this paper demonstrates the effectiveness of using multifeature hypergraph fusion and the spatiotemporal correlation model to address issues in vehicle reidentification.
