Abstract In this paper, we consider Z r \mathbb{Z}^{r} -graded modules on the Cl ⁡ ( X ) \operatorname{Cl}(X) -graded Cox ring C ⁢ [ x 1 , … , x r ] \mathbb{C}[x_{1},\dotsc,x_{r}] of a smooth complete toric variety 𝑋. Using the theory of Klyachko filtrations in the reflexive case, we construct a collection of lattice polytopes codifying the multigraded Hilbert function of the module. We apply this approach to reflexive Z s + r + 2 \mathbb{Z}^{s+r+2} -graded modules over any non-standard bigraded polynomial ring C ⁢ [ x 0 , … , x s , y 0 , … , y r ] \mathbb{C}[x_{0},\dotsc,x_{s},\allowbreak y_{0},\dotsc,y_{r}] . In this case, we give sharp bounds for the multigraded regularity index of their multigraded Hilbert function, and a method to compute their Hilbert polynomial.

AbstractIn the paper we compute the virtual dimension (defined by the Hilbert polynomial) of a space of hypersurfaces of given degree containing s codimension 2 general linear subspaces in $${\mathbb {P}}^n$$ P n . We use Veneroni maps to find a family of unexpected hypersurfaces (in the style of B. Harbourne, J. Migliore, U. Nagel, Z. Teitler) and rigorously prove and extend examples presented in the paper by B. Harbourne, J. Migliore and H. Tutaj-Gasińska.

We consider the Cohen-Macaulay compactification of the space of twisted cubics in projective n-space. This compactification is the fine moduli scheme representing the functor of CM-curves with Hilbert polynomial 3t+1. We show that the moduli scheme of CM-curves in projective 3-space is isomorphic to the twisted cubic component of the Hilbert scheme. We also describe the compactification for twisted cubics in n-space. Comment: 22 pages. Final version

AbstractIn this paper we prove a result on the effective generation of pluri-canonical linear systems on foliated surfaces of general type. Fix a function {P:\mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}\to\mathbb{Z}}, then there exists an integer {N>0} such that if {(X,{\mathcal{F}})} is a canonical or nef model of a foliation of general type with Hilbert polynomial {\chi(X,{\mathcal{O}}_{X}(mK_{\mathcal{F}}))=P(m)} for all {m\in\mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}}, then {|mK_{\mathcal{F}}|} defines a birational map for all {m\geq N}.On the way, we also prove a Grauert–Riemenschneider-type vanishing theorem for foliated surfaces with canonical singularities.

This paper defines the Euler–Poincaré characteristic of joint reductions of ideals which concerns the maximal terms in the Hilbert polynomial; characterizes the positivity of mixed multiplicities in terms of minimal joint reductions; proves the additivity and other elementary properties for mixed multiplicities. The results of the paper together with the results of [Thanh and Viet, Mixed multiplicities of maximal degrees, J. Korean Math. Soc. 55(3) (2018) 605–622] seem to show a natural and nice picture of mixed multiplicities of maximal degrees.

AbstractLet (R, ) be an analytically unramified local ring of positive prime characteristic p. For an ideal I, let I* denote its tight closure. We introduce the tight Hilbert function $$H_I^*\left( n \right) = \Im \left( {R/\left( {{I^n}} \right)*} \right)$$ and the corresponding tight Hilbert polynomial $$P_I^*\left( n \right)$$, where I is an m-primary ideal. It is proved that F-rationality can be detected by the vanishing of the first coefficient of $$P_I^*\left( n \right)$$. We find the tight Hilbert polynomial of certain parameter ideals in hypersurface rings and Stanley-Reisner rings of simplicial complexes.

We consider one of the fundamental problems of classical invariant theory, the research of Hilbert polynomials for an algebra of invariants of Lie group $SL_2$. Form of the Hilbert polynomials gives us important information about the structure of the algebra. Besides, the coefficients and the degree of the Hilbert polynomial play an important role in algebraic geometry. It is well known that the Hilbert function of the algebra $SL_n$-invariants is quasi-polynomial. The Cayley-Sylvester formula for calculation of values of the Hilbert function for algebra of covariants of binary $d$-form $\mathcal{C}_{d}= \mathbb{C}[V_d\oplus \mathbb{C}^2]_{SL_2}$ (here $V_d$ is the $d+1$-dimensional space of binary forms of degree $d$) was obtained by Sylvester. Then it was generalized to the algebra of joint invariants for $n$ binary forms. But the Cayley-Sylvester formula is not expressed in terms of polynomials. In our article we consider the problem of computing the Hilbert polynomials for the algebras of joint invariants and joint covariants of $n$ linear forms and $n$ quadratic forms. We express the Hilbert polynomials $\mathcal{H} \mathcal{I}^{(n)}_1,i)=\dim(\mathcal{C}^{(n)}_1)_i, \mathcal{H}(\mathcal{C}^{(n)}_1,i)=\dim(\mathcal{C}^{(n)}_1)_i,$ $\mathcal{H}(\mathcal{I}^{(n)}_2,i)=\dim(\mathcal{I}^{(n)}_2)_i, \mathcal{H}(\mathcal{C}^{(n)}_2,i)=\dim(\mathcal{C}^{(n)}_2)_i$ of those algebras in terms of quasi-polynomial. We also present them in the form of Narayana numbers and generalized hypergeometric series.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the closed subschemes of moduli spaces corresponding to projective varieties which admit an effective action by a given finite group [Formula: see text]. To achieve this, we introduce the moduli functor [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text]-marked Gorenstein canonical models with Hilbert polynomial [Formula: see text], and prove the existence of [Formula: see text], the coarse moduli scheme for [Formula: see text]. Then we show that [Formula: see text] has a proper and finite morphism onto [Formula: see text] so that its image [Formula: see text] is a closed subscheme. In the end we obtain the canonical representation type decomposition [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text] and use [Formula: see text] to study the structure of [Formula: see text].

AbstractWe study the decompositions of Hilbert schemes induced by the Schubert cell decomposition of the Grassmannian variety and show that Hilbert schemes admit a stratification into locally closed subschemes along which the generic initial ideals remain the same. We give two applications. First, we give completely geometric proofs of the existence of the generic initial ideals and of their Borel fixed properties. Second, we prove that when a Hilbert scheme of non-constant Hilbert polynomial is embedded by the Grothendieck–Plücker embedding of a high enough degree, it must be degenerate.

AbstractWe investigate the moduli space of sheaves supported on space curves of degree and having Euler characteristic 1. We give an elementary proof of the fact that this moduli space consists of three irreducible components.
